Dude, I’m not being an a-hole but I honestly have a hard time deciphering what you’re even saying.
I never said I’m upset or that OU can’t do NIL. Of course they can. My issue isn’t NIL. It’s the portal. Money given to players has always been around. It’s just now on a broader, more visible, open scale.
Yes. It will. I don’t know if it’ll offset the damage the NIL will do, though.
If players “explore options,” I hope they and the universities get caught and sanctioned. I’m sure Caleb talked to Riley but Riley was his coach. If he was in contact prior, seems Iike these decisions wouldn’t drag on.
Riley left OU Nov 28. Caleb Williams hit the portal Jan 3. You honestly think there was no discussion with anyone before then?!?! I’ve posted with you enough on here to know, while we disagree, that you’re knowledgeable. You cannot be that naive? You don’t think Williams talked to anyone else either?!?!
I completely disagree on the portal bringing the big boys closer to the pack. A starter at an elite school isn’t going to leave to go somewhere lesser. But a starter at a lesser school will absolutely (AND HAS ALREADY) leave for one of the big boys. Those handful of elite programs don’t need any more help getting studs. The portal is undoubtedly another way for ALL PROGRAMS TO GET PLAYERS. How you think only the lesser schools will get them……is you being blind.
Did Alabama get better when they landed a starting LB & their best healthy WR via the portal? THE ANSWER IS YES. How can you deny that?!?!
Just answer me this & I’ll leave it alone. It’s been a good discussion.
Did Alabama get better/benefit from the portal when they landed Henry To’o To’o from Tennessee?
Did Alabama get better/benefit from the portal when they landed WR Jamison Williams from Ohio St?
Both of those guys started. That’s their best LB & WR in the playoff against Cincinnati. One is projected to be a 1st Rd pick and the other a 1st/2nd Rd pick.
I write to our strick of post. They are remarks to ur post. I’m sorry u have all ready forgot what u rote. U can revisit ur post to catch u up to speed. I’ve read ur post. Try not to use the grammar crap.
The portal is like recruiting its who can evaluate best and just fill their needs. I see so recruiting class and they will have a class if 17 and 3 will be qb.
I stuck up with u when the prime mate attack u about living in a trailer house. I guess I was wrong.
I guess u can’t read it because u can’t spin what I’m writing to ur narrative.
Look I’m just pointing out things just like I do for osu.
I have concerns as an osu fan about next year. I find it hard to believe u are putting so much faith in a first time coach.
I find it hilarious u are against the portal. U never said that about last year when u thought ou made out better.
The nil should not be like it is. No reason for an 18 year to make 6 figures. But, would money goes to work good things happen. Ex ewers at Texas. Makes a chit load at tosu for what nothing. He is back at Texas.
I dnt think the guys whom have left us will improve their with. I think they will just be at another school. I know we have gained from the portal.
Like on ur qb I would be nervous. Ex the ex Baylor Utah qb. He broke his cb and lost power in his arm. Skylar never ran the same.
I nervous about not have shane. But we do have gunnar. Sanders has been hurt 2 out of 3 years.
Well the are “amateur”.
But If like in ewers case at tosu. If that was a true nil deal did they make their money back.
It’s new some of these deals may slow down on the high end.
Call me old school but a scholarship is worth alot on its own.
Like in the pro there will be a cap put on it.
I dont need anyone to stick up for me on a blog. No one knows each other on here, so there is no need to take anything personal. Someone getting big mad because a guy named TheHeadChimp accused someone named Ketchupsicle of living in a trailer house is laughable to me. But i appreciate the thought.
"I find it hard to believe you are putting so much faith in a first time coach". There are plenty of first time coaches that do pretty well. But you act like I said theyll win a National Title every year. I said theyll lose 2 games and be in the Conf Championship. OU has won the Conf 6 of the last 7 years, so me saying theyll make it to the Champ Game isnt some big limb im out on.
"I find it hilarious u are against the portal. U never said that about last year when u thought ou made out better" Ive been against the portal from the jump. Not sure where youre getting this from. I hope OU gets every great player that goes into it. That doesnt mean I like how the portal operates. But if its the rule of the day, then you better utilize it.
"I dnt think the guys whom have left us will improve their with." This is pretty comical. So…the guys that left OSU for the portal will not be any good. But the players you get from the portal will be good. Got it. If thats not a homerific statement…
I just said u are more positive of ou out then I would be.
I’ve point out the stuff. It’s not 1 thing. If it was one thing I would be on board with ou winning.
I never said u said ou will win a natty. Ou winning a natty would be a joke. Even ur best out come is 2 loses. 2 loses most times won’t get a team in the playoffs.
On osu players leaving, I said I dnt think they will improve their draft ability. Just like I think some of the guys who have turn pro should not have.
So I said OU loses 2 games and you said thats more positive than you would be. So lets hear who OU cannot beat?
By the way, the last 2 “First time coaches” at OU did pretty good. Both Stoops and Riley won more games in their first year than the team did the year before they got there.
I dnt know ou full schedule.
Can u tell me, sight unseen u guys will go into Morgan Town. Will ou have enough defense to stop the red river stampede. Ur a 100% in winning back bedlam because it’s in norman.
Just like when I look at osu. I have alot less questions. But playing 5 road games is not good for us.
Every once in awhile I think I can talk to u. But, dude u have very thin skin. I’m not going out of my way to disagree with. But, in no one would I agree 100% with u.
Point out questionable holes is not a personal attack. Same with explaining way wrestling is important to osu.
I don’t know how a cap would be put in place, because technically the university they play for isn’t paying them. The nfl doesn’t tell Aaron Rogers how much he can make doing tv commercials. If a business wants to pay a young man a certain amount of money who are we to say it isn’t right? We’ve literally got junior high kids making a ton of money via YouTube , TikTok etc. We are a capitalist country (albeit barely) we shouldn’t tell anyone how much they can or cannot make simply because they are “18”
The University couldnt put a cap on an outside entity/business on how much they want to give. But the University could put a limit on how much their student-athlete could make. The universities currently have guidelines on what types of business their athletes can endorse through NIL, so theyll be able to limit the stuff somehow. There are salary limitations in all kinds of jobs. I know the govnt side has them. I think some type of boundary or guardrail is coming with the NIL stuff, but who the hell knows how long thatll take.
I agree, They opened this can of worms by not carefully structuring a plan and turned it into the Wild West, I just don’t know how you can implement a cap when they make there money from outside businesses, maybe they’ll come up with a good plan in the future
