Daily Bullets (Sept. 11): OSU Shouldn't Be Compared to Oregon

Y’all boys need more hobbies

I predicted 45-3 because of what I had seen in week 1 of both teams. It was actually worse than I expected. I think Northwestern helped prove that point today. While they still lost, they still proved you don’t need to have a ton of talent to score touchdowns or hold Oregon to under 40 points.

As far as transfer portal rankings are concerned. OSU came in at 35th nationally according to 247, while Northwestern came in at 69th. According to 247’s HS recruiting rankings OSU was 52nd, while Northwestern was 66th. David Braun (who’s a month younger than myself) came in his first year and won Big Ten Coach of The Year.

This is exactly why I keep saying you don’t hire tired old men to coach a game that’s passed them by. You keep making excuses for everything. I’ve just proven to you a younger coach with less experienced players and talent didn’t get taken to the woodshed by Oregon like the greatest coach in Oklahoma State history did.

Hey champ,

You guys want to dunk on Robert, but the way you use language is incomprehensible. It was worse than you expected, and Northwestern helped prove that point? What point? That it was worse than you expected? How did a game after the fact prove that you expected worse? What does that even mean? Word salad.

You basically ignored everything I said. In addition to us having our QB1 injured, Oregon traveled halfway across the country to play Northwestern where we traveled halfway across the country to play them. You don’t think they were maybe a little less crisp playing Northwestern? Other points to follow after I unravel this next bit of idiocy.

The portal rankings and recruiting rankings do not matter. Yes, we had a high ranking. Part of our high ranking is that we had to replace half our team. That hurts your continuity. Yes, before you say it, we had all the continuity in the world last year and did horrible. I get it. Fine. Then he should’ve been fired last year if you were going to do it. I would expect a team thrown together from transfers to not perform well. I wouldn’t expect it of a team that’s played together. Deion Sanders was fairly successful bringing in a ton of transfers, but it took him an entire season to get them to gel. This is week 2. FYI, you don’t say “younger than myself”. That is some hypercorrective, nonstandard English. You say “younger than I”.

Again, what does this even mean? You didn’t “prove” that. It’s just a thing that happened. Your overall point that older coaches can’t be good (the thing you’re actually trying to prove) is patently wrong. There are successful older coaches at every level. You want a good coach. Age is irrelevant. Youth isn’t anymore a guarantee of success than age is of failure.

What would you consider worse? Losing 69-3 on a national stage as you claim to be a “top 25 program” over the years? Or perhaps a 34-14 loss when you’re a program expected to receive a beating? Which program has been better since 2005? OSU or Northwestern?

Are you seriously trying to ensue that these factors contributed to a 46 point difference in a loss? No wonder we all think your takes are insane.

Indiana was a team last year thrown together with new transfers and pretty much a new coaching staff. They won 11 games and made the CFP. Any other excuses you’d like to place on this forum while you’re at it?

I suppose you might be right. Curt Cignetti seems to be one of those few I’ve talked about in the past. Of course, he didn’t hold onto the DL coach from Indiana for obvious reasons. As Gundy found out last season.
