A bad day turned worse for the Cowboys.

The season is already lost. Just wait until April 1st and let him go, saving yourself about 2 million. I would also start a low key coaching search so have a candidate ready to hire when Boynton is let go.

Ames is always that place for OSU, it’s a shame that Boyton hasn’t had success in Stillwater he’s recruited well but for some reason that recruiting hasn’t translated into enough wins on the court. I agree that we should let him finish this season and then get someone new in.

Fade me all day, but Boynton has had some rotten luck during his time here.

Everyone said that this year was tourney or bust. We’re not even going to make the NIT. I hate to see Mike go, but it is time to start talking about who are the possible replacements? Does Doug G get the next shot? We gonna go the ‘hot-shot’ assistant route again (like we did with MB)? I’d be curious who the coaching carousel targets are for this year, so as to start watching them to see how their own teams perform.

No fade required, as I agree. But he’s failed in 6 years to make his own luck and change his own fortunes. Yes the game yesterday was ugly and the travel problematic, but we weren’t likely to win in any case. We didn’t have weather & travel issues going to Tech and we still got run out of the gym.

“There is also a world where Boynton and Co. turn this around. This is a young group — starting two true freshmen and a true sophomore. There are talented pieces on this squad, and when it’s going well, you can see how good it can look. If they can stick together (something that happens less and less in this transfer portal era), this group ought to be better next year and be darn good the year after.“

This has been the story literally every year with Boynton.

It’s time for him to go.

Completely agree. That was the exact story last year, and we ended up with a total of 3 players who returned. If we’re going to have the whole roster turnover every year anyhow, we might as well sign up for it under a new coach.

Please not Doug G., not a long term solution. He has no experience. I love the emotion and passion he has for OSU, but that doesn’t mean he can coach.

If not Doug then who? We went with the non-OSU guy with the coaching chops last time, and it hasn’t exactly worked out. At least with Doug, we know we’ll get the fire and passion that Boynton brings. Otherwise, what’s the options? A retread like Dickey? No thanks. The ‘got hot in the tourney’ mid-major coach? Do those guys every actually work out as expected? Or its the strong recruiting assistant coach from a good program, which is what Boynton was. Clearly that method doesn’t always find someone who knows how to coach either.

Got tcu and tech at home.

The FAU, SDSU, Utah State, Colorado State, and Creighton coaches are all way better options.

I do think if the Cowboys don’t make at least the NIT then it’s time to part ways with Boynton - at the end of the season. Not now. Parting ways now makes no sense. Ride out the season and hire the hot young coach at a small school who takes his team deep into the NCAAs.

What about John Lucas III?

I’m not recommending a mid-season firing. Just acknowledging that this should be MB’s last season. And I don’t think we’ll make the NIT. We are at 8-8 now. If we go 5-10 in our last 15 games (which could be a stretch for us), we’ll be 13-18 to end the season. Even a 1-1 conference tourney to finish 14-19 isn’t going to be good enough for the NIT.

He would be acceptable to me. I’m not a Doug or bust apologist. Not sure if he’s HC material yet, but 5 years on NBA benches is certainly worthy of consideration.

What happened to this post. I said we had tech and tcu at home and then it turned in to a basketball post lmao

What you do on days when travel wipes you out is to grind, inside then out. Boynton’s teams have never been able to shoot. We have 2 top 50 freshman big men, and the only offense they will get is in-transition or putbacks, or Dailey shooting 3’s.

Where is Miranda? He showed flashes of brilliance. Is Boyton redshirting him? Since we have nothing to lose, I would go big and play Garrison, McBride, and Dailey together.

The only good coach we hired since Eddie Sutton was Brad Underwood.
Chad has a tough decision to make.
Retain Boynton so you don’t give up money needed for NIL? That that would mean we need to stop trying to be a basketball powerhouse and a football powerhouse at the same time. We are on the verge of becoming a playoff team in football. So that’s where money needs to go. Let basketball drop for awhile since its been a sinking ship since Eddie was gone.
If not that choice, then come up with the big bucks and get a proven consistent winner for a coach. No more promoting from within. Experienced only need apply.
We have one of the better football coaches, wrestling coach, track and cross country coach, golf coach, softball coach. Time to have a top hoops coach. Do or die. There will be a slew of transfers after this season at the bottom of the conference.
