Five Thoughts on Oklahoma State's Coordinator Hires

Absolutely pathetic!!!

In today’s college football world, I believe the 3 most critical requirements of a DC, OC, and for that matter all position coaches are the following:
1). Statically leading prior results delivered in the exact position for which they were hired…, requires 24/7 work ethic & extreme knowledge of the game with a style that the players identify with…
2). Young but with enough age to have clearly delivered #1 above
3). Can build a strong bridge with the players inclusive of having a personality such that the players will go thru walls for their coach

Dumby has totally struck out and the only saving grace will be another pathetic season that hopefully the BORs will fire his arrogant, sorry a_s!!!

You’re a four star recruit in Texas. You have Belichick and Gundy both on hold. Which one are you talking to first? Well….forget what I said. Gundy doesn’t like calling four stars :man_shrugging:.

You’re a player in the portal from Bama or Ohio State. You have Belichick and Gundy both on hold. Which one are you talking to first? Well….forget what I said. Gundy goes after FCS players in the portal :man_shrugging:.

Are you catching my drift here?

When you return 19 starters (second most in the country) and you go 0-9 in the conference. The BoR and Administration aren’t asking you to become a BB. They want to know why you didn’t do your job.

Doesn’t matter in the NIL world. That said, you don’t know if Gundy calls or not. Lack of 4-stars doesn’t mean he doesn’t call or press. I mean, OkState sports one or the lowest recruiting budgets in the NCAA. That’s not on Gundy.

I don’t disagree with that assertion. Gundy’s main issue is he’s loyal to a fault. Ollie saved Dunn’s job in ‘23, which should never have been the case.

We have a 4 star kid here in Oklahoma he didn’t even bother to offer (Xadavien Sims). Gundy sucks at recruiting. Why the hell would you increase a recruiting budget for a dude that doesn’t bother to go after them? He’s also admitted in the past he doesn’t.

He admitted he doesn’t go after 4 star kids Give me a link to that Einstein cause I want to read it With your reading comprehension I doubt it says that if it even exists
Making chit up again
If memory serves me I’m sure we have had 4 star recruits. Absolutely mental !!!

I never said we’ve never had 4 star recruits. However, when you’re ranked 57th in recruiting this cycle and have only ONE signed that’s not saying much. Btw, Gundy didn’t sign a single 4 star last season :man_shrugging:. Even Iowa State ranks higher in recruiting than we do.

As far as Gundy recruiting 4 stars. Yours truly had an entire article about it:

“ But again, that 2011 team was built on the back of two of the four best recruiting classes OSU has ever had. That’s not nothing . Whereas OSU is now pulling one or two 4-star guys a year, they were pulling three or four in that era”

The dude got lazy. Which is why he hasn’t won the conference since 2011. His recruiting went down and he hired D2 coaches. Mike Yurcich got fired from Penn State and now Nardo is gone.

Gundy has talked about recruiting a lot over the years. As he describes it OSU is going to be on the loosing end more often than not for 4 stars so is some finesse is involved when making offers to the big boys. At least that is what I have gleaned when listening to Gundy talk about recruiting philosophy. Essentially it’s a balancing act of not extending too many offers to dudes with a low probability of accepting so that there are enough offers remaining to extend to players with a better chance of accepting. If this is done wrong schools can be left holding the bag with no reasonably good players in the recruiting class. In the end it is a very complicated and nuanced process. Of course the trolls hear Gundy talk about it and all they come away with is “Gundy doesn’t offer 4 stars”. Pretty shallow analysis I must say.

Someday we’ll look back at the glory days of OSU football when we won our 1 Conference championship in 20 something years.

You idiot coaches are hired to be fired It’s the nature of the game. It’s what have you done for me lately With you it’s go back 15 years and what was done , why didn’t this happen, why didn’t we do that. You’re a blithering idiot Joe. No way around it Keep repeating the same ole chit against the wall to see if it sticks
lol

That’s fair ,but Gundy will and does offer 4 star kids if there is genuine interest. If you have to follow every game and text them all the time when they still have BB chasing them , yea he doesn’t waste his time on them. As you said you don’t get them and you haven’t recruited a 3 star just under him you probably lose both

Yurcich gets fired from Penn State. They go to the CFP. Nardo can’t even last three years at the D1 level. Saban wouldn’t even give Grantham an actual position at Bama. Keep telling me I’m wrong though :+1:.

Grantham was on the staff at Alabama DA Doesn’t make any difference what position he had he was on the staff. Again reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit
Wrong again

The issue was he wasn’t trusted enough to coach anything. All the way from DC to DA. Maybe if he can be better than 97th or 125th in his first year I can give him the benefit of the doubt :man_shrugging:.

I don’t think anyone is “blaming the young kids.” I am telling you, though, that the talent pool at QB has been pretty shallow for quite some time now. The “young kids” that everyone on here seems to think will be the next Tom Brady aren’t that good. Gundy has crapped the bed in recruiting QBs ever since Yurcich left.

I stand corrected. Middling might be too generous. His last two Florida defenses were ranked 74th and 73rd overall.

To be fair, I think Belichick will be an abysmal failure at UNC. He’s old. He’s never coached the college game. He was a mediocre coach without Tom Brady. Brady went to Tampa and won another title while Belichick got fired.

Why would a HC refrain from offering a kid? “Essentially it’s a balancing act of not extending too many offers to dudes with a low probability of accepting so that there are enough offers remaining to extend to players with a better chance of accepting” This is absolutely NOT the way to go about recruiting. So instead, you ONLY go after lower-rated kids? Thats a really, really poor way of planning a recrutiing strategy.

Terrible take. Did Jimmy Johnson win when he left Dallas? Did Andy Reid win without Mahomes?
