OSU generally is very close to the bottom of amount of scholarship offers sent out. They’re acting like you can only put out so many offers like it is some limited commodity.

Yeah thats a bad way of recruiting. Why would you only want to cast the smallest net possible? You dont get penalized for offering a player that says no. Gundy is trying to sell a bill of goods that acts as though kids dont give you an indication of their interest level early on. Its called RECRUITING. You sell your program. You sell the reason as to why.

I 100% agree. Does recruiting kids probably suck ass? I would imagine so, but that’s part of the reason he’s paid big time money.

It absolutely sucks!! Gundy, whether you like him or not, has a pretty lengthy resume with some very impressive highlights as both a player and a coach. So I get that itd be extremely hard to have to basically kiss the butt of recruits who have accomplished nothing so far. But…thats the game. You have to.

Never said I thought he would be successful. Only saying I think because of his name recruiting would be better. Belichick also doesn’t need to be great as long as he brings in an OC and DC that’s good. Gundy’s proven that.
I don’t disagree with the theory re: 4-star athletes. But if they don’t fit the system, they’re no better than a 2-star, agree? System fits are better than any ranking system. See one FSU 2024 program……

You mean like Bowman? He was just a lower three-star recruit and it was obvious he didn’t fit Dunn’s system at all. Unless you like seeing if a QB slower than a turtle can get you 12 yards on a QB draw

We can sit here and talk about how they don’t fit the system if you want. The reality is the previous coaching staff recruited a bunch of 2-3 star kids that didn’t fit the system anyway. If that weren’t the case, then I doubt we would’ve went 0-9 in the conference this season. Go look out our overall record since 2022 and tell me I’m wrong.
Yes it is. These guys think they know everything. Quite annoying, actually. I mean, OU brings in 4 and 5 star recruits and hottest coordinator as coach, yet they’re nearly equal with Okstate over the same period. Hard to argue with Gundy’s success.

Cool. Fire Gundy and hire one the hottest coordinators in football (Venables) and recruit 4- and 5-star recruits……maybe it’ll work out or maybe you’ll be like OU wishing they didn’t give such a large contract to a coach for mediocre seasons. Curious, though, who would you prefer to be the head coach and how do you guarantee success? How do you guarantee those recruits and coaches remain at a school in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma during the NIL era? Find me another coach that has delivered 18 straight years of success with a horrible roster as you’re alluding too……

Tell me how you go about recruiting then if you spend 75% of your time on 4 star kid and come signing day you lose out and the kids you spent little time recruiting sighed somewhere else ? What’s your backup plan to the backup now ? You’re left with kids that had little interest in from anyone
You would agree that a 4 star kid is most likely to sign with a BB wouldn’t you ?
Different sport but the No 1 recruit in basketball signed with BYU for 7 million it was reported. How much is left for the rest of the team ? Plus the kid had offers from every BB in the country. I know this is way off track from the topic but this is bizarre I’m sure the guy that’s getting 25k playing with him won’t have a little resentment. I’m ready for the revenue sharing to see if it brings a little sense to all this
Seems to me, no Big 12 school does well recruiting considering literally no Big 12 school sits in the Top 20, aside from OU and Texas, which are now in the SEC. Also, seems to me that OkState has been to more Big 12 title games in the past four years than any other school in the Big 12. Texas Tech, Arizona, TCU, etc have all brought in more 4-star recruits than Okstate, yet they have little to show for it. Fire Gundy, but there’s no guarantee that the school will see further success or improve its recruiting. I mean, heading into the 2023 football season Gundy was #6 in wins amongst active coaches. He was #5 heading into 2024. But here you guys are thinking the school will do better……

So, put up a coach you think OkState can hire and retain. Who would you prefer? Who will deliver 18years of consecutive success? Who will be top 5 in winningest active coaches. How will you guarantee Okstate will immediately jump in recruiting rankings. I’ll wait……

We’re 20-19 since 2022, and we have the highest paid coach in the conference. So what’s your point? That we might go 6-6 for sixth time in the Gundy era? Is one conference title in 20 years not the definition of mediocrity to you?
Find me how many coaches go 0-9 in the conference with the second most returning starters in the country? Especially with the returning Doak Walker winner . Not even Bob Simmons would produce such an abysmal season.

Who said we NEED a coach for 20 years? Even coaches at BB programs come and go, and don’t stay forever. Bob Stoops and Nick Saban didn’t stay for 20 years. Tell me why we need a guy to hang around for that long? This also depends a lot on what your definition of “success” is. Is that just making any normal bowl game? If so, then even Les Miles proved that could be done. I’d go after a guy like Chris Peterson. I doubt he wants to coach again though. Mark Dantonio won three conference titles in 12 seasons at Michigan State. You can find successful coaches if you’re willing to look .
One team won six conference title and the other won zero. That’s not what I’d consider equal .
