Do you mean our John Smith? If that is the case for me the jury is out on him being one of the best. The reason being I don’t know much about the other coaches in the sport to compare him against. Honestly I’m a bit embarrassed that I don’t have an opinion what with being a HS wrestler in Oklahoma (many moons ago) and big fan of the sport.
Also I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have had the same level of success if we went to Mississippi State instead of Alabama

John hasn’t been able to get the intensity from his guys as Penn St, why I don’t know but until he does he won’t win many NC. The recruiting has picked up big time the last 3 years so let’s hope they wrestle like they have in matches this year. Aggressive……that sit back and wait won’t cut it in nationals

Yes I agree, until John starts to dominate Pen State and to a lesser extent Iowa we probably can’t call him a goat coach.

Well it’s not all on Smith. Oklahoma kids made this program. Even great past wrestlers kids aren’t as great. We didn’t get Mondays, but he was not as good. Sheets and smith’s kids just not as good. Texas Is picking up a lil. It’s hard to go to the hot bed of recruiting( big ten area) and steal kids.

Yep, especially Texas. When i was in HS Texas wrestling was apparently a joke in my circles although I don’t know if it was a fact or not. Just something our coaches told us and in the 70’s when I was in HS there was no internet or easy way to confirm or deny what they were saying.

Oh yea Texas was bad we had the only kid from Texas that had a natty for years. Then Nichols got some for Penn state, and we got aj. They are picking up.
Us playing iowa in Dallas will be interesting to see the trun out. Both our last matches went over 13000.

regarding Iowa it says that the match location is Arlington ballpark so I assume that is the new Texas Ranger ballpark. Living in north central Texas I could attend the match in person. There is no info on TV coverage. It appears that most of the matches leading up to that one will be on espn+ which is cool as I already have a subscription there.
Nichols and AJ were both from Allen HS which is near me

Why hasn’t Fix been able to finish in tournaments ? Sit back instead of being aggressive to me. We had a good stable of kids right now if we develop them. AJ’s brother is supposed to be as good if not better. Getting the kid back from NW was a big get. Just hope to see more development

I don’t have enough Wi-Fi strength being I’m on Dish satellite to even stream ESPN+ so I’m screwed until I get the high speed I’m supposed to get
Yea Fix looked like a totally different wrestler in last years NCAA final. I forget the kid that beat him but Fix let him ride him for almost the entire 2nd and 3rd period if I recall correctly. Really weird for someone of Fix’s caliber

Yea no way that kid was supposed to beat Fix to me. Maybe the coach gave him the strategy to pull the upset. But he’s looked a lot more aggressive this year as have everyone else

I’m not real sure of what my options are here. I live in the sticks close to the lake here but East Central Electric is running the highest strength available
