Even a blind dog can find a bone.
That paint job is probably part of the reason we have the 11th best facilities in the country, and yet stuck with a coach convincing people (such as yourself) that being average is an excellent thing to do.
Texas is 9th followed by OU who is 10th followed by OSU who is 11th. Neither of the other teams youâve talked about have cracked the top 25 in best facilities around the country. So what exactly are you talking about?
We realize it isnât the Taj Mahal of football stadiums, but it â â â â well deserves better than an average recruiting ranking of 35th. Thatâs not the stadiumâs fault but the coaches.
Knute Rockne died in a plane crash on March 31, 1931.
As a guy whoâs been in the facilities of all 3 of those places within the last 3 years, OSU is very similar to the other two. Baseball, OSU has the âTaj Mahulâ as Robby says. Best on campus facility in the land. Football is 3rd amongst the 3, but still a good facility. Just smaller capacity, which is due to the smaller crowds anyway. Basketball, OU is in 3rd. Lloyd Noble is a concert venue. Not a basketball arena. Baseball, OU is in 3rd as well. The indoor facilities are pretty much a wash. I actually like OSUâs a little better and would probably put UTâs in 3rd. The only other facilities Iâve been to firsthand have been LSU & Wichita Stâs. OSU isnât being outdone by OU or TexasâŚâŚ& to say that OU & Texas are the best in the country? No sir. Thatâs wrong
Man the Gundy discussion is always a fascinating one to me. Very, very good points on both sides of the debate. Gundy loves OSU. Will never leave there (even if he flirted, he was never leaving. Just a money move). But I do think he deserves some criticism for not being able to capitalize on Texas being down & winning the Conf in 11.
So thatâs why u cry all the time.
And tech is at 16 so whatâs ur point.
Tech also fired their own precious alum QB because they want to be better and are willing to explore their options. They didnât just stick with a guy for the next 10 seasons that admits he wants to keep the program on the same path instead of a better one.
My view on Gundy was that he had an upward trajectory his first six or seven seasons. Then itâs like after winning a conference title he decided that was good enough.
I continued to think he was a good coach up until I watched him find a way to lose to Central Michigan. I donât care who you are. As a top 25 team your butt shouldnât be losing at home to a G5 team that finished that season 6-6.
His problem is that he isnât acceptable to change. He still tries to pull the same stunts he did years ago. He almost carries the attitude that âitâs better to lose than to changeâ and itâs nerve racking to the fan base.
Another frustrating part with Gundy over the past six or seven years is his tendency to keep games closer than they need to be. Instead of winning a game by 20 heâs set on only winning a game by 3. Heâll get a big lead on another team and go into super conservative mode during the middle of the game which either causes the football team to barely win or barely lose. I canât count how many times on my hand weâve been toward the end of a game and itâs either a recovered onside kick or FG we have to make just to beat someone like a 3 or 4 win Tech or K State. You didnât see him coach like this in his earlier years.
The other thing is changing an offense that was proven to work. Since going to a Cowboy Back we use an extra blocker and never throw to the middle of the field. Defenses know this so they donât care to leave the middle of the field open because they know Gundy wonât do it. He underutilized his talent to such a point in recent years that people find his evaluations as questionable.
He played Brennan Presley for one play last season (which resulted in a touchdown) and benched him the rest of the season until the bowl game. Presley plays against Miami and ends up being the star of the show that game.
Perhaps the most frustrating part of Mike Gundy is his recruiting. This is why Iâve made the facilities such a big point. His average recruiting ranking over the past 10 seasons has been 34th. If we are going to claim to be a top 10 program over the last decade as far as wins go then Gundyâs butt needs to be recruiting better than 34th. Especially when 247 is saying your facilities rank up with Texas and OU.
There is absolutely no reason for him to not have a few top 25 recruiting classes sprinkled in there. We would like to play for a conference title eventually. When you recruit better players you give yourself a better chance at beating someone better than you. No reason he should be an average ranking of 5th in the Big 12 when it comes to recruiting.
Overall heâs been stagnant and now his attitude has went from âwanting to win Big 12 championshipsâ to saying âWell itâs good that we are consistentâ. Sorry, but I and some other are done with him. Unless your like Robert and you think 7-5 is just absolutely a great thing.
He was losing every year u really have become an idiot now ur out of jail
Rite a freakin novel next time.
U should have stopped after blah blah blah.
My response was to him, and not to you. If you donât have the ability to read a few paragraphs then why would you want me to write a novel? You need to learn to crawl before you can walk.
I was just pointing out to u that people dnt want to read ur small post ur just wasting ur time. I actually was trying to help u.
Being complacent. Unless youâre Nick Saban, right t happens. Bob Stoops. Paterno. Bowden. Mack Brown. The longer you stay, the harder it is to have that same âjuiceâ you had in the beginning. Being the hunted is far different than being the hunter. I agree with you that itâs happened with Gundy. Just not sure thatâs a fireable offense in my opinion.
Firing a coach for 1 loss? Now youâre sounding like some of my OU friends. Those happen. They sting. But I put that more on the players than coaching. That OSU team also went on to finish #11 in the country.
His attitudeâŚâŚI hate. I love Josh Holliday. I felt the same way about Gundy in the early years. Now? He seems to be far more worried about his own appearance above everything else. Seems to want to be an attraction rather than a football coach.
Keeping games close. Thatâs a direct result of who he played for (Pat Jones) & coached with (Les Miles). Those two were grinders.
Changing the offense, Cowboy back, middle of the field. I donât agree with that. I take it he & his offensive coordinators know what theyâre doing. Heâs had very, very successful and sought after offensive coaches over the years. I disagree on that one.
Brennan Presley. Agree 100%
Recruiting. That leads directly to the 1st point above. Complacent. Stagnant. It happens. I completely agree. Thatâs why I think Riley is such a great coach. He gets the importance of recruiting. Social media. How to âdateâ these kids. Itâs led to OU signing & bringing in some players of questionable backgrounds that I think Riley needs to clean up. I personally would hate having to go chase down HS kids whoâve done nothing. The hat dances. The commit videos. I hate it. I think Bob Stoops hated it. I guess that Gundy hates it too. ButâŚâŚyou have to play the game nowadays to get those guys.
I read it. I enjoyed the convo. The dude is talking. Not just throwing tantrums like a mentally challenged kid whoâs just learning to work the internets
Thats fine I was talking to joey anyway. I can see why u like read Joey stuff u both like ou better then osu.
People donât waste their time trying to read your posts because of the grammar.
Itâs funny uve posted to me a 1000 times along with moe and curly.
