I think we’re on the same page here just a different paragraph. Chat room debates aren’t really my style though so I digress.
Hubbard, Ogbongbemiga Won't Participate at OSU 'Until Things Change' After Seeing Gundy in OAN Shirt
Why should he forfeit his right to wear what he wants for a bunch of immature brats? I could understand if it was something totally racist. This isn’t the case though. It’s just a new channel shirt.
Do you have evidence he is endorsing it? How do you know he’s not just using it as a fishing shirt? That’s right!! You don’t!!
I have not been shy about my disdain for PFB’s coverage lately. I think Boone and Porter have done an objectively terrible job.
However, on this issue, they have thus far just reported what has happened. Like it or not, this is a giant story that cuts to the heart of OSU sports. It needs to be reported. I am sure their coverage will prove to be unfair over the next few weeks, but your complaints seem premature.
Joe15 - you are right. Gundy has the right to wear whatever t-shirt he wants.
Good luck with recruiting.
I have always been on the side of Gundy when others were trashing him but I am done. Gundy has been running his mouth about politics for a while and it has come back to bite him. He deserves to lose his job if he splits this team over bringing politics that support a slap in the face to every black football player on this team. I love OSU football but if I were black, I wouldnt play for a coach that wears a tshirt like this. Gundy’s bragging tshirt has overloaded his behinny. No black person should play for an insensitve coach that would tout this kind of tshirt as black men are being modern day lynched in this country and the spotlight is on it especially now. I have lost all respect for Gundy. How stupid of him to do this. He can have his trumpster polical beliefs but he doesnt need to be the coach of young black men. You cant hide the truth. It will come out. I do respect Lincoln Riley for standing with his team. I thought Gundy was showing disrespect for team over the covid issue but I now see where it is coming from.
Meanwhile, somewhere Burns Hargis and Mike Holder are sharing a bottle of Aleve.
This will not be an issue of a t-shirt. It will quickly become a firestorm of dozens of young men questioning their leader. He has officially lost the locker room.
Have to terminate him.
“it ain’t speeding if you don’t get caught!” - joe15, probably
That shirt didn’t just show up at his house. He had to order it and or accept it in some way and then decided to wear it. A spade is a spade, joe!
I agree here. So long as Hargis and Holder retain the power, he’ll do enough over the short term to be terminated or retired early.
If it’s just a grunge shirt, and doesn’t reflect how dark skinned players are treated, this will be over quickly. If it’s systemic racism that needs to be addressed, it will drag out. Nobody knows unless they’re intimately involved with the organization.
Part of the problem is that many dark skinned athletes have mentioned that they feel like they only matter if they’re entertaining people; outside of performing for crowds, they should just sit down and shut up. Personally, I’d rather hear what folks have to say before passing judgment.
Does it bother anyone that a PFB writer posted this to hurt Gundy? Boone knew exactly what he was doing. Let’s cancel Gundy because of a t-shirt? Get a grip, people.
Again, PFB (whose coverage of OSU I mostly enjoy) is in the wrong. Wrong side of the argument. Wrong side of history.
I sincerely want OSU to be a perfect place for all of us. The way it is perfect for most of us in our hearts and in nostalgia. Unfortunately, nothing is perfect and players, fans, and coaches alike need to learn that. Chuba needs to chill out and digest some new information about what’s really going on in the world, and Gundy probably needs to take a step back and consider a different approach in how he incorporates his politics into he work and public life. While I personally align with Gundy’s view on most things that I know about, that certainly doesn’t make it perfect. Unfortunately this puts us all in a tough spot. I hope that cooler heads prevail, on both sides. In Stillwater, and elsewhere.
Based on the tweets by the players, this is about what’s really going on in Stillwater.
“But you have to realize that if you endorse a company that pushes extreme far-right conspiracy theories and says very insensitive things, people can ASSUME you agree with those things.”
Thank you for your clarification. There is that word ASSUME again. I guess I should just start assuming what everyone is like based on apparel before meeting or talking with them.
Why doesn’t anyone just verify with Gundy first on his reasoning for wearing the shirt before bashing him? Seems pretty logical to me.
No!!! Verify before condemnation. Just common and logical sense. Ask him about it!!!
Doesn’t matter. You should always verify and confirm before making an assumption. There are a different variety of things people assume.
Okay…so ask him if he totally believes everything OAN stands for or says. Let’s ask him why he would support such and oppressive and racist news channel.
I think this is ridiculous!! I don’t know what happens behind the scenes but Mike Gundy has always stood up for his players publicly!! I believe he will once again stand with them publicly as he should!! When he goes home he can watch whatever news he wants to!! As for the players they should have brought this to Gundy privately and expressed themselves like mature young men!! Instead they blast there head coach publicly and that’s wrong!!
