OSU went scoreless for the final 2:21.

One game into the conference schedule and we’ve already lost to a bottom 3 team at home. Funny how the football team finishes in the top half of the league every year and everyone wants the program burned to the ground, but the basketball team hasn’t done a dang thing in 15 years and everyone is all high and mighty on em. Results can create some funny conclusions sometimes.
Boone really blew that one at the end.
You need to make free throws. They’re free.
It’s too early in the season to predict much but this I will say. It was a very entertaining game but the Cowboys so far don’t know how to play with consistent intensity. They play with it for awhile but not long enough. They are not skilled and experienced enough to let up like they do. As yet, I do not see Cade ending up as a number one draft pick. I think it’s the coach’s job to get him involved in the offense sooner. The slow starts of this team is becoming a habit. Great play starting the second half. The goal tending probably is the reason the game was lost. The most obvious take away from the game is that in this conference any team that lacks a true big guy under the basket is going to have a tough time beating anyone. We saw that tonight and will see the same thing for the rest of the season. Boynton is going to have to use some magic to attract a big guy or else each season is going to look the same.
Boynton is awful; worst coach in the Big XII.
I really hope Boynton didn’t tell Cade to dribble into triple coverage and hoist up a prayer. Geez, pretty good game with an awful finish. Oh well, I wasn’t expecting them to go undefeated…
This game was lost on free throws. Clank after clank. 3 point shooting was also bad but that happens, no reason to miss that many free throws and a couple of them were front ends of one and ones so really it was worse that the box score shows
Free throws have been a thorn in our side since coach has been there. Cade dosent look like a number one pick to me but maybe I’m not good at telling if he is or not. He needs to get more aggressive and carry this team. Isaac just can’t hit free throws and it really hurts us as he has the ball in his hands a lot. I don’t know why flavors is starting over walker because flavors has not done a whole lot. Walker comes in every time and sparks us. He needs to start.
OSU has more tradition in basketball than football and our fans expect less in basketball than football for some reason. No excuse to lose that game. They better figure it out because it doesn’t get easier from here.
Football team finishes 3rd in conference and fans trash the program. Basketball team hasn’t made the tournament in years, but we have potential and recruit well
. I genuinely like the football and basketball coach, so I hope they both succeed.
It is year 4 for Boynton and I think at this point fans should demand more. The brand of basketball they played tonight makes you the 7th or 8th best team in the conference. It’s time to step up and play at a higher level.
100% agree. While I understand that football is not performing up to the expectations that they have set for themselves, I find it both hypocritical and humorous that people are all in on this basketball team but have such anger toward the football program. All coaches combined in the history of osu basketball not named Henry iba or Eddie Sutton have a combined total of ONE ncaa tournament win. It came way back over a decade ago in 2009. But for some reason everyone is giddy on the basketball team and resentful of the football team.
Your perceptions point to a need for better coaching. We are seeing the same issues in all of the games so far. That is why I am starting to question the coaching. Look at what Underwood has going for him at Illinois. The Illini were not a good program to take over but they could be good this season. You have Cade Cunningham and you can’t find a way to ignite his fire from early on? Your team stinks at 3 points so cool it and instead have your team penetrate more. Spend more time in practice shooting free throws till you get it right. The defense looked great at times. Rebounding in the first half sucked but looked so much better in the second half. They should have put away TCU in the second half. They let up once again instead of keeping the intensity. Give Boynton 2 more years. Fran was right when he said OSU does not have shooters.
Where is that Joe1 that hates the coaches, wait, only Gundy. What a loser. Sure hope he not really an OSU fan but a " plant" to stir conversations. Coach Boynton is our head and if you’re a Cowboy fan support him . I wasn’t real pleased with his coaching tonight, but we NEED him to succeed.
Haven’t had guys on this team enough that can creat their own shot. Need to start walker and play him as much as possible. He’ll start walker and bring Isaac of the bench. Iv never been really high on Isaac. You really need a point guard that can create his own shot knock down free throws and shoots 3’s consistently. Coach has not had a well rounded Point guard since he’s been here and it’s just like needing a good quarterback in football to be successful. Hope he gets it figured out quick.
I don’t expect Cade to be great every game, and this is really the first game where he’s shot poorly; however, I do think he needs to be more aggressive offensively. He got on a roll late, getting in the paint at will which he should be able to do with his size and ability to handle the ball. But then…we just went away from him the last few possessions until that final shot.
And we’ve got to get better shooting, all around. That’s what really killed us.
That being said, I’m still excited for this season!
One question here, why the double hockey sticks can’t we seem to get a big here on campus? Puzzling to say the least. And why does every team seem to shoot the lights out from the 3 point line all the time on our quart? I guess that was two questions.
Flavors has disappointed with the 3 ball so far. Need to get him off the floor. If your going to start him and he misses his first two then get him out of there.
Despite the insane talent on the team (especially for an OSU b-ball team), I can be empathetic to a loss in a first Big 12 game IF fundamentals were mostly sound and effort consistently high. But what I don’t understand is the inconsistent effort, the free throw woes, and complete mental break down that resulted in an Atlanta Falcons like choke at the end. Let’s hope it gets better from here. Go Pokes!
Putting Isaac on the bench is a terrible idea. He’s the most complete player on the team, and the teams best defender. Not only that, but coming into tonight, the three-man lineup of Cunningham, Likekele, and Walker on the floor together had the highest +/- in all of college basketball. Walker needs in, but not for Isaac. Maybe one of the boones or flavors.
