The Cowboys weren’t able to overcome their snafus this time.

Shameful. Straight up shameful performance from the defense. Stupid ass penalties. Guys running WIDE OPEN. Can’t tackle worth a damn. Just shameful.

Tough loss for sure. Need to bounce back. Team still has a lot to play for.

Almost every time they pressured weigman, it was a good result save for the one touchdown. Issue is that they rarely rushed more than 4. Very questionable defensive play calls all game.

Better spend a lot of money on defensive backs…what a crap show by the defense

Took just one more week.

Look, I picked us in the 7-5 range before the season and I think we’re going to surpass my expectations, but one of the reasons I thought that is that UNT didn’t have a good defense. I didn’t think it was suddenly going to be better in the Big XII.

Offense is even better than I thought it would be, playoff caliber. The defense is what I thought it was… Porous, average at best. It’s pedestrian. Offense can pull us out of a lot of jams. After that fumble, I thought it was over, but the offense came right back and put the pressure on.

Also… Shouldn’t have chased those points in the 1st quarter. Take the FG.

It wasn’t a slow start, though. The defense never showed up. We know now that WVU is weak and UCF was on a second QB and was drinking and dunking all game… But if the defense had made one more stop in the second half, the offense would’ve saved it even against a much better offense than those two.

The points would’ve been nice if there was any proof the defense could get a stop. If we kicked it and were tied there was literally zero chance we stop them from draining the clock and kicking a walk off FG. Hell if they still needed to score at the end they probably would’ve gotten a wide open touchdown anyways.

I’m glad I can be invested in the program again at least. This loss stings like a MFer and was extremely frustrating to watch but damn it’s miles better than watching a hopeless and lifeless team every week. Offense starting out sucking really hurt. Defense was non existent. Still have everything ahead of us but damn man the defense has me irritated.

I called it last week. Defense sucks.

Carson and Colby keep falling over themselves complimenting this team. The reload guys were on it far more. Defense is suspect at best and blows donkey at worst.

This Cassity worship needs to stop.

I’ll go glass half full here, we have had 2 years of watching the worst football ever played. This was a competitive game against a team that was better than I expected them to be. Defense has a lot to work on, but what else is new? We’ve had one great defense in the past 25 years. Really it’s just nice to be relevant and play in relevant games again.

I never thought the defense was good all season. I’d say they were “doing enough” and have a few good athletes on that side of the ball. They would make stops when it was needed, but not this game.

I think it was a tale of two halves by both sides of the ball. I think the defense did enough in the first half while the offense replicated the Tulsa game in the first half.

The offense did more than enough in the second half while the defense gave up 21 points in the second half. It just wasn’t a good performance overall on both sides of the ball.

I said I think Houston would win IF they won the turnover battle by +2. They were +1 :man_shrugging:. Then again, with our red zone offense being so putrid (102nd nationally) I figured we would go ahead and take the points…..NOPE!!! Stop going for it on 4th down in the red zone if you don’t plan on fixing the red zone offense :man_facepalming:. That would’ve at least put us in OT at Houston (maybe).

I chose us to win by 10. Then again, I at least thought we would protect Drew enough considering Houston was 129th in QB pressure rate and 118th in pass defense. We literally beat ourselves out there. Our tackling? Our defense looks like it plays flag football. An entire week of practice should be dedicated to fundamental tackling.

For the offense, an entire week of practice should be dedicated to red zone offense. That’s being said, we need bigger, stronger, and faster athletes on our DL. We don’t need G6 athletes playing on the defensive interior.

3/32 (9.3%) of your points in the first half is a slow start. Come on. Coach called it another slow start in the post-game presser.
Dude, get real. This a pattern.

And everyone’s crying defense - this game started with an opening-drive pick that the offense couldn’t cash in in the red zone, AGAIN. That’s a four-point swing and what did we lose by OHTHATSRIGHT three points. The O scored THREE POINTS in the first half. I know that’s the supposed strength of our team, but they’re not exactly holding up their end of the couch, and offense is what was supposed to be coming up from UNT.

40 wins this game, and this offense is supposed to be scoring 40+. That didn’t happen tonight because the offense came out slooooooooooow. This one is not on the D.

I keep adding on to this, because it keeps occurring to me - neither of our losses are on the defense. They’re both road games where the offense was asleep.

I’m going full Okie and saying All Y’all are mad about the wrong thing. Look at it clear.

Defense didn’t do well at all, but they did go against a machine. The QB/TE is pretty close to elite for college football. We have a team the could have won and we didn’t. But we went on the road with a team that is a Top 15 team and could have left with the victory. After all the moving and shaking over the last two years, all of us would be ecstatic where this team is now. Sure the red zone is frustrating, but that’s what happens with spread offenses. Coach Morris has us back and hasn’t even been able to really recruit yet (for both sides of the ball). Win the othe games (beat Tech) and we’ll be way beyond where anyone realistically predicted us for this season (and the future).

Eh… If you score 32 and lose, it’s on the D. I don’t really care when the points came.

Not only is the D highly suspect, I’m sick of these bone-headed unsportsmanlike penalties with game changing consequences- at least one per game. Just one fewer drives last night would’ve been a pokes victory, but no, Bodnar has to throw a stupid blind side block on somebody and extend their drive, which resulted in a TD. It’s ridiculous how undisciplined this defense is. Always chasing the wrong pursuit angles, etc. Yeah the O needs to wake up sooner, but the real problem isn’t WHEN the points are scored, it’s about the other team having less of them than you when the clock hits zero. This game was lost by the defense and it’s going to keep happening.

Of course the game is on the defense. One single, flukey play to the start the game doesn’t change that. 32 points is more than enough to win. The secondary was atrocious. It felt like, especially in the 4th quarter where it mattered the most, every time their QB had time to throw (which was any time he wanted), it was an automatic completion down the field. They were 7/13 on third down and 3/3 on fourth time. More often than not, we couldn’t stop them when we needed it the most. Those 3 whole points wouldn’t have saved us in the end because we literally could not stop them. Not to mention, a bad defense puts an increasing amount of pressure on the offense and they still did all they could to keep us in the game. Their QB had a career day. That’s not a coincidence.

Also, everybody wants to complain about going for it on 4th down when we don’t get it, but then they’ll turn around and complain about settling for 3 if it fits their narrative. Also, even though we didn’t convert on that 4th down, we had Houston right at their own goal line to start their drive. That was Morris also trusting his defense. Joke was on him, I guess.

Guys, we bought this team from UNT for the offense, and it didn’t show up for half the game. Get f’kn real.

They scored 32 points.

Ok, and they kept us in the game. After that catastrophic fumble, I thought it was over, then they roll out and quick strike us within three. If the D held the opposing team under 5 TDs, we win. Holding the opposition under 35 isn’t some Herculean feat. That’s base level defense.
