John Paul Richardson Reportedly Enters Transfer Portal

Again if we don’t hear from someone in the know at OSU tomorrow I think everyone needs to be fired. Might as well shut down the football program and change the locks on the football locker room if they are going to manage the program so poorly.

Well, next to Big Robert, Robert is biggest Gumby cheerleader of all time. He might be his fan club prez, LOL!

Robert28 is probably RAs burner tbh. Especially with how frequently he says the writers for this site aren’t real journalists.

I don’t really think Dunn is given free reign on what plays he wants to call. Know someone who has a friend in the program who backed me up on that.

LMAO. If that’s true he’s purposely writing like a non-native Engrish speaker. He continuously makes the same mistakes w/ spelling and his grammar is pretty bad too. But it might be Big Rob…just to throw us off, LOL!

I don’t think Dunn gets free reign either but it’s his job to stand up to Gundy and tell him to fck off if he does have his fingers dipped in the offense like I suspect he does. Holgerson and Monken did it and look what they were able to do. If Gundy won’t get rid of Dickey and Dunn at a minimum we need to start thinking about getting rid of all 3 of them.

I’ll take Willie Fritz over Mike Gumby and Tulane can have Dickey and Dunn, LOL.

This is bad. Gundy needs to get his crap together and change his attitude.

  1. Form a relationship with your players, show that you actually care about them and want to help them grow. Act like you care if they were to leave. Do NOT just scoff, be arrogant and act like you have zero influence. These kids look up to you ffs.
  2. If its painfully obvious that a coach isn’t doing a quality job that OSU has come accustomed to, make changes! Do NOT say we should be happy because 20 years ago OSU had losing seasons
  3. Put your dang ego aside and be a professional. Don’t threaten the media for asking questions. If I dont perform well at my job guess what!? I get fired. Nobody gives a crap about my family.
  4. Can we please get some creative plays? Better run plays that go somewhere else besides the middle of the field!? We have like 10 plays total and of those 10, every run goes on the inside. No option, no pitch, no sweeps, nothing! Oh but we got draws and dives for days. I dont even want to get started on the passing plays. Predictable and pathetic.

This wont fix everything, but it’ll help! I dont make 7.5 million a year to figure this out and have more common sense than he shows. Maybe I need to be hired. Get your crap together Gundy!

Yeah I don’t really know either way. I will say this…….NOTHING would shock me with Gundy. I personally wouldn’t let any player come back after they hit the portal. So while I said in my initial post that it was strictly a rumor a friend floated out………it would not surprise me one bit. This is a new era of handling college football players. NIL & the Portal have made it to where coaches have to change how they handle kids. I hate it………but it’s fact

@michael13 @bruce4 @OSUgradndad85 Do any of you see the irony in Gundy being mad/stubborn/unwilling to welcome guys back once they hit the portal………seemingly mad because they are flirting with/entertaining other programs. Yet……Gundy himself has done that at times with flirting with other head coaching jobs? OSU leadership welcomed Mike back & increased his salary at times. Is that not hypocrisy at its finest?

Not fighting you guys. I just know you 3 are ones I’ve had discussions with on here aboit it

Absolute truth. The biggest negative that the portal effects is the ability to build a foundation. A Culture is had to cultivate when the exit door is so readily available.

I don’t recall having a previous discussion with you regarding Gundy where I was critical of his reaction to the players jumping into the portal. However, I still generally agree with your comment.

I wasnt saying you were/werent critical of Gundy in regards to players. I was simply saying that you are one of the posters that I knew I had discussions with on here. I was painting with a broad brush.

This is one of those subjects that we could spend hours discussing. Not sure my carpal tunnel is up to it lol. Here is what I have been thinking lately. 1. Lots of stories floating around right now. Really hard to separate the facts from what is just being made up and the facts that are there are of the “he said she said” variety so now it comes down to who do you believe. 2. I wonder if the OSU coaching behavior, whatever it is, is no different substantially than any other program and that the kids hitting the portal, who haven’t been anywhere besides OSU, are going to get a rude awaking when they land at their next destination. 3. As far as letting players return from the portal I see no problem with Gundy saying no. I would think that any coach or any person in business would evaluate an individual on a number of factors in deciding to bring a person back on board or not, really a long way of saying that I doubt that loyalty is the only factor in deciding if the answer is yes or no.

I’m sure that OSU gives increases based on performance, generally when we have a good season you will see Gundy get a better contract. There are probably some past inconsistencies that can be pointed out but in general that how it seems to work.

@bruce4 Im specifically talking about Gundy (& other coaches at all levels) when it “leaks” to the press that he was talking to Tennessee on a few occassions. The other was Florida. Those are done a lot of times to garner a better contract by firing a shot across the bow of your current employer. Its a great business move by the coaches (& their rep’s). OSU welcomed Gundy back. He got a pay increase that was either due to his performance or as an attempt to retain him. The matter for the increase isnt relative to this discussion. Im saying he absolutely talked to or showed interest in leaving OSU for another school. Thats exactly what these players are doing when they enter the portal. The players couldnt be in contact with other schools if they didnt hit the portal first. So IF Gundy is taking the approach of “im not bringing a guy back once they hit the portal”…that seems hypocrisy at its best

That’s 100% right. But that’s the problem with the interview question too. Gundy thinks he’s above reproach.

First of all I’ve never heard Gundy say this so I can’t know that this is the policy. I see no problem with a Coach/Player or anyone else for that matter looking elsewhere as long as they are fulfilling their commitments/promises

@bruce4 Just to clarify, ive never heard that said publicly (nor will any coach say that). You can read the tea leaves and jump to a conclusion that Gundy’s stance is exactly that. Reading the Jacob Unruh interview of Trace Ford, the rumblings and conjecture that Sanders wanted to come back and Gundy nixed it, the recent defections (specifically Captain JPR)…it certainly can be assumed that Gundy is closing the door on portal entries and staying set in his ways. The reality is that these coaches either have to CHANGE their approach nowadays with the Portal and NIL…or likely run the risk of getting your program in VERY DEEP WATER

@KetchupSicle Well I’m pretty cynical when it comes to stuff that you read in the press so I am not going to pass judgement or reach a conclusion on what Unruh or Ford says in an article. If Gundy has a policy of not letting players come back once they hit the portal that’s his prerogative. Is that a good way to manage the team? I’ve no clue I’m not a coach at OSU. I will say that if there is a 100% “no return” policy and it is known among the players it will factor into their decision to enter the portal which would be, at least in part, the reason for said policy.

@bruce4 Neither of us “know” for sure what Gundy’s stance is. He hasnt stated it publicly…but I will GUARANTEE you that he’ll be asked the next time he has a press conf. I think Gundy is old school, which I love. However, that may not be the best approach to a roster in the NIL/Portal world. One could assume (correctly/incorrectly) that Gundy has chosen that once a player hits the portal…that hes done with him. Im not referring to an opinion by Unruh, im referring to the comments that Ford made about how Gundy handled Ford after he hit the portal. I get it from an old-school perspective…but man that certainly seems like its been a recipe for disaster for the current roster in Stillwater

Lets do a hypothetical here. You are HC @OSU. How would you handle the portal? Would you allow a player to come back after entering the portal? Would you allow a player to hit the portal, play a year at another school, then transfer back to your school?
