Personally, I think Rangel is better than Bowman. Then again it’s not like Gundy has the best record at choosing a QB.

Wrong choice coaches. If his 2 picks and -15 yard trip and fall sack didn’t already tell you that, then I don’t know what will.

Heading into Game 5: the starting QB has been allowed to play one full game and you’re still only giving him 60% of first team reps in practice? That makes no sense.

Or 48% completion percentage to add on top of that.
What are we missing about Bowman that has the staff name him QB1?

I wonder if Gundy doesn’t like Rangel but doesn’t want to look like favoritism by throwing Gunnar in there. But wants us to feel like we Gunnar is the Answer by giving him more time to develop. At this point Just start Gunnar and see where it goes even if Gunnar plays like crap. It pains me to see Bowman play QB more than it does seeing Wes Lunt play when he was here.

It’s funny about folks perspectives. Lots of love here for Rangel. Have listened to several podcasts the last week or two that had former OSU players on and a lot of them wanted to see Gundy start. Go figure.

With Bowman already behind the 8-ball in the second game of conference play, he should be getting 90% of first team reps to help the offense try to find a rhythm.
I played college football (NAIA mind you), and our starting QB took at least 90% of first team reps, while the other two guys rotated in on scout team and came in for a first team series every once in a while.
Rangel is the best QB on the roster right now. He doesn’t make a lot of stupid mistakes, and you can tell by watching him he looks the most comfortable in the pocket out of all three. He also has more game experience than all the Quarterbacks on the roster over the last year. Also, his capability of running or evading is better than Bowman’s. Unlike our OC and other Quarterbacks, Rangel also looks for Presley.
I just don’t understand why in the hell you want to continue starting a guy that has 11 snaps in three years previous to this season, and especially behind this offensive line. I don’t know what they see in Bowman. Is it his two picks? 15 yard loss? Or 48% completion percentage against Iowa State? He’s not the type of QB we need behind this OL right now. Just give me 20% of Dunn’s salary and I’ll figure out a way to get this team past the 50 yard line at least.

Most comfortable in the pocket, reads the pocket very well, has mobility (and confidence) to flush only when needed, good throwing mechanics, good arm strength and accuracy, can throw to BP and TE’s as well as deep balls and out routes.
Hopefully announcing Bowman as starter was a ruse to fluster KState’s game prep (sarcasm).
Or Rangel is in the dog house.
If only Bowman played half as good as he interviews.

Well ok but complaining about 60% is kinda of splitting hairs. There is so much that we don’t know like is Bowman the starter or the STARTER. It could be that he is still on trial and the others are still in the competition. If that is the case maybe giving them some reps makes sense. There are a bunch of other potential reasons as well. None of them can be known by us.
I highly agree with you, I don’t see how we are going to grow and get better with a rental QB for one season. I really like Rangel. He has a strong arm and a bit more mobile now. I’m actually fine with Gunnar till he can’t win other wise. Neither Gunnar or Rangel is going to be ready for next season if they can’t get more experience or grow. If we can’t get bowl eligible let’s at least prepare for next season. I’ve heard Rangel is far more ahead than Bowman and Gunnar.
It’s going to be hard to even get bowl eligible if we don’t starting firing on more than one cylinder and get better at something. I almost drank the Kool Aid of getting 8 wins or more this season with our so called light schedule.
I believe the true issue will be with Zane Flores. If he does not get playing time next year, he will enter the portal. My opinion is that Gundy has already written this season off so he is trying to give his offense some sort of experienced stability with a QB that has significantly more playing time than Gundy and Rangel. Yes, Rangel and Gundy are both better. But, at the end of the day, because of their inexperience it probably is better to keep Bowman in there. As you know, I am no Gundy fan, and I am certainly not trying to make excuses. I am just trying to find anything at all to justify his actions. That is all I can come up with. That, and Gundy is a horrible coach that is completely behind the times for today’s college football game. It passed him by years ago and he refused to adapt.

@firegumby Not sure this makes a lot of sense. If Rangel and Gunnar are both better than Bowman, then they’re both better than Back-foot Bowman AND his 6 years of NFL-style under center experience. I do agree that Bowman is 3rd out of the 3, meanwhile both Rangel and Gunnar are continuing to get better and better (at least this season over last).
It’s not splitting hairs at all. The offense has to get in a rhythm and you only have so many opportunities to do that.
And, I agree with you - the fact that they are splitting reps seemingly 60-20-20 means there is still a 3-way QB competition. Of course I’m glad Gundy named Bowman the starter, but I wish he’d just go ahead and fully hand the reins over. Otherwise, Bowman will be looking over his shoulder, the team can’t fully commit to Bowman, and crucial reps for the offense to get in sync are lost.
I don’t think this is a small thing.
