Gundy talks reinvigoration, NIL and more.

Love the subtle shade at Holder.

I like what Gundy says about Shrum and Weiberg. But, I’d also like Gundy to acknowledge the leadership Hargis and Holder provided for a long, long time.

I hope joy does read the part about knowles.

I thought his comments on Mason were interesting. Made it sound like he was ready to go a whole new different direction away from football until he met w/ Gundy.

It’ll be interesting to see the tweaks to the system that Mason makes. As well as how Dunn adjusts the offense when and if necessary. As usual, I think the success for offense is tied to the o-line. And nailing down RB carries.

Naw. He clearly feels they were holding him back. I tend to agree, but that’s irrelevant. He didn’t drag them through the dirt, but he made an unspoken criticism. He’s allowed to feel how he feels about it, and he communicated that diplomatically.

Gundy thinks Weiberg and Shrum will be a lot more positive about help in recruiting movey to me. Maybe the boosters will raise enough money to be competitive. We won’t ever match Texas or ATM

Except that Gundy himself said he’s not built to be at a place with a much bigger budget than ours. I do believe he is getting better support from this administration than the previous one, though.

He was making a reference to place like texas and Tennessee that booster money increase the job factor

Increases the pressure too. Look how many coaches they both been through. :joy: and we are in better shape than both.

I’m sure there may have been private conversations had between Gundy, Weiberg, and Shrum, but I am wondering does anyone have knowledge of a succession plan post-Gundy in about 5 years? That is my only big-picture concern with the program at the moment.

Weiberg & Shrum are bigtime and as good as they come in their positions. I’m sure they’ve got a plan in case Gundy were to leave. They’re too good at what they do to not. Joe C @OU is as good as it gets & he’s been quoted as saying that he’s always got a list of 5 candidates in his desk that he updates in case something happens.

As for the OSU football job itself, it’s been elevated to a top 25 job in college football. Whatever percentage is due to Gundy, Boone, facilities or both, is up for debate. But I think if Gundy were to leave you’d see them go for a guy like Gundy was back when he got the job. A young, offensive minded alum whom people could envision sticking around Stillwater for 20 years. OSU is a job to where you have to be far more aware of what your program will be in 10 years than you do at a place like Norman. OSU has to be more careful about hires than some other places do just because of it being harder to get your head back above water.

Great observations. You just described Zac Robinson who is atop my wish list. Now, pulling him away from the NFL might be impossible considering his current trajectory, but a man can dream. I guarantee it would put the fear of God into every defensive coordinator in the conference if he were to come back home.

But then Nebraska fans thought the same thing when Frost came back home…and look how well that is going. :flushed: I think I just lost my spot on the search committee. :joy:

Different animal though. Nebraska sealed their fate when they left the state of Texas. Worst move in the history of their program. Some of these morons who think they know recruiting need to understand why having a footprint in Texas is so important.

We all know tomato slice knows everything
Of course they just picked upbav4 star from texas.
Lol
Gundy got a good 15 years left.

Zac would be my pick too. We need a young energetic type that loves Stillwater and wants to be here. I don’t think they have to be an alum but it would help knowing the program. A top notch recruiter who would get kids wanting the atmosphere there. Don’t know how much they are giving JW to do, he would certainly have. connections in Texas

Yes, if JW continues his climb, he could be a strong candidate too. I would think he would need to prove himself as an OC somewhere first.

@travis5266 Walsh has never even been a position coach yet. I’d think he’d be quite a few rungs down on the ladder at this point. Robinson seems like the flashy pick for most OSU fans. But you worry about a guy like that who had zero experience in learning the recruiting game at the college level. Throw in the portal & NIL junk……that could be setting a newbie up for failure. The first call I’d make would be to Josh Henson. He’s been a position coach & cut his teeth on the recruiting trail all over Big 12 & SEC country. Now he’s a coordinator’ish @USC. Tuttle guy. I’d throw the kitchen sink at him.
