I guess scientifically that made sense, but fundamentally I was still scratching my head. I’m a very visual learner and this made so I looked up a video. This made much more sense to me.
I guess the way to think about it is, we’re not seeing a shadow cast on the moon but rather the moon is always half lit and we’re seeing different angles of that light depending on where we are in relation to the moon’s illuminated half. Yes the moon and sun are both above earth’s surface so theoretically nothing is blocking sunlight to the full surface of the moon, but I wasn’t considering that the sun is way further “above us” than the moon is. So although they look like they’re directly in line of one another, the sun is really “behind” the moon and the illuminated half of the moon is mostly pointed away from us. As we rotate circumferentially closer toward the sun the illuminated part of the moon rotates more toward earth. Is that a good way of putting it in words?
I need a website that lets me insert the audio of “cackling Kamala” to really dumb, cheesy jokes.
I will say a few painstaking minutes of listening to her laugh will correct anyone’s nervous public speaking laugh as quick as a coconut can fall from a tree
I think it’s awesome. She’s not reserved. It’s wide open. I think I needed that and didn’t even realize it. I love a good cackle. (Of course, I played Gertie in Oklahoma, so I’m partial. 8 year old boys also adore a good cackle and I would know… I got stopped at sporting events in other towns by kids who had come to see the play on field trips. My 2.5 minute brush with fame. )
Speaking of space and gravity defying feats… my very favorite Bama gymnast is competing for her parent’s home country of Columbia… and she’s headed to the all around finals on August 1. Go Louisa Blanco! (#RollTide because it’s gymnastics!!!)’
Bama also had a Canadian on their team for 5 years and Shallon Olsen is a 2 time Olympian representing Canada.
