Official Cade Cunningham thread

He’s just going along with the rumors. If I was not on PFB+ I would think the same thing. The UK fans are doing a really good job of spreading it.

You got shredded for the take because you brought it up after every single piece of news about Cade for days after Davis decommitted. Nobody was saying you were outright wrong - just overly premature and persistent with it.

Because the orange colored glasses surrounding the situation was/is ridiculous. I know for certain a VERY prominent member of the program was furious about the way Boyton handled all this. So tell me this, IF CC doesn’t end up in orange and a coaching position as well as a top 100 recruit who would have probably landed us 2 others and created a very good pipeline all was wasted, what should happen with Boyton? We just say “atta boy, get em next time?” I’m genuinely curious what you think and not looking for an argument.

  1. I trust Boone to have sources. I trust Cade Webb to have sources. As much as I like you, I don’t know you from Adam, so your knowing ‘for certain’ about all this anger just doesn’t hold any weight. You may believe that you have great sources, but the Kentucky people spreading rumors feel that they do too.
  2. NOW is the proper time to start being concerned about the state of things. The proper time was not immediately after Davis left and it was not hammering the same thought over and over with every single piece of news for days. That’s what people resented.
  3. If this ends with us striking out on Cade and Bryce and Thor…then a conversation about the future may be warranted - but we aren’t at that point yet. I’m as big a pessimist as you’ll find but even I’m not writing us off yet. Also, sorry, but Davis/Williams is nowhere near either Cade or Bryce ALONE, much less with Walker/Thor. I’d make that deal 100 times out of 100 times.

I love Boynton. He’s taking a big shot. Love that too and don’t care if he misses. Glad to have someone laying it all out there and not being happy with mediocrity.

I’m excited about this years squad. Short handed we were in most games last year and it took heroics by Texas Tech (Runner Up in NCAA Tourney) to put us away at home.

So what if we miss on Bryce and Cade? Would love to have them, but we’ve got some talent already on the roster and Boynton will pick up some other decent recruits in their place. Anyway, that’s where I’m at. It would be fabulous, but so what if he swings and misses, at least he’s hustling and trying to go big time. I expect the team to make the tourney and win at least a game or two this year. If they fall way below that then I’ll start to wonder if Coach Mike has what it takes…

There is no reason to be concerned until after his commitment happens, until then it is all noise. And seeing as everything contradicts everything else I am just waiting until concrete commitment, during recruiting (especially of Big fish) you can not get too high or too low.

Also Joe Tipton who runs Tipton Edits and makes edits for all the Big Recruits said two prominent sources told him that Cunningham was not commiting anytime soon. Like i said earlier it is all noise. The people in the know believe we are right in it, and Boynton has ensured he will be there until the end with both Cunningham and Thompson. Boyntons teams play with heart and grit, they have an identity capable of keeping them in games. He knows they are one big time player away from being a top 15 team and he is putting it all in, but it isnt as if he is just praying and hoping he has consistently put the work in with these two. As a fan if you dont want your coach going all out for the best talent then go watch the football team play some more LOL

That last line is a straight fire burn. Wow.

I like the news about Tipton though. He IS tuned in so I DO trust sources there.

I’m not sold that Boynton is the one that initiated the decommitment of Davis. His MO is to recruit over what he has on campus and encourage guys to transfer of go pro to free up a spot.

I do not think he initiated it either, rather Davis saw the smoke with who we are chasing as well as he was receiving a full court press from Arkansas to play with his fellow instate standouts.

Cade to Stillwater!

Boone is for sure a reliable source besides his love for OU. If he had a crystal ball for Big Country it’d be OU 25 years after his Final Four run. But yes, the PFB guys led by him are usually steering us in the right direction with info compared to these mainstream subscription sites.

You’d make the deal when we end up with none of them? Also, Boone confirmed what I said in an earlier post. So that’s fine that you don’t believe me. My “source” IS the person. It’s not 2nd hand info. Not too hard to figure out either if you think about it. I told him I wouldn’t put his name out their so I won’t. Moving on, if Grundy gets in the top 5 for big name talents (like he has several times) and strikes out then moves to “plan B” he gets SLAMMED for not closing the deal. So to fix that he started recruiting the kids who truly wanted to be here and fit the culture. Thus pulling the program into a more respected outlook. Miss me with the “look at our record”. Gundy is the goat when it comes to OSU football coaches and it’s not even close. My point still remains that its such a double standard because it’s “new” and the basketball team has been that bad. Getting kids like Davis (and probably would have resulted in Williams) is how you build the culture. Much like the class we just signed. That’s my point and I won’t apologize for beating that drum loudly. Like I’ve said, I HOPE I’m wrong. Howeva, the point still remains. Selling your soul for a guy this early in never seems to result in good things. That’s just the way it is.

So that’s where we are? Who cares if he gives up the guys that commit, as long as it’s for a shinier Star (That we don’t get)? Geez… OK…

I’d make the deal where we shoot our shot at #2 and a top 20 player in the country as opposed to being fine with two top-100s, yes. Even if it doesn’t land, it’s showing effort. Miss me with ‘well, let’s build things up’ as opposed to ‘we have a legit shot to land the possible best recruit in the country’. That’s 100% the kind of mentality that has our football team in the toilet right now. ‘Let’s build our culture with 3-stars and occasional 4s - that’s our way’. Pass.

And you can talk about your ‘source’ being this important person all you want. I’m going to trust the sources through people actually connected to the program as opposed to some random guy on a message board. Doing the latter turns us into a UK-style board.

I haven’t done it but are we sure it does us no good to show CC some twitter love?

That’s generally how recruiting is… we love the guys who commit but if there’s a better player out there then yes they will absolutely be recruited over. And if the commit decides to leave then that’s part of it. That isn’t just an OSU thing. That’s college athletics. :man_shrugging:

You’re dead-on. More importantly, us doing so means we’re willing to compete on a larger scale. ‘Building a culture’ is all well and good, but I’d rather build one that involves us taking shots at truly-elite talent as opposed to several pretty-good players.
