Oklahoma State Faces Huge Drop in AP Poll after Being Shut Out by Kansas State

But you think keeping Gundy 20 years with one conference title compare to Baylor TCU K State with say 3 coaches and multiple titles?

What do you mean by “compare”? Are you asking me if Gundy has done a better job than who? Is OSU a better program than any of those? I’m not real sure exactly what question you’re asking?

@ar1 @KetchupSicle Looking at the current and previous two Baylor head coaches Gundy’s record is superior or on par depending on how you look at it. As far as replacing a head coach goes there are tons of cases where the new hire was a determent to the program. When it comes to D1 football head coaches I think “the devil you know” rule should very much be in play when deciding to go with someone else.

Yeah I’m not in the fire Gundy group. Nor do I think the OSU brass should be either. It doesn’t have to be “Gundys great” or “Gundy sucks”. I think “Gundy is really good but could/should be better” is absolutely ok.

Forget OSU is K State a better program than Baylor over the last 10 years for keeping Snyder?

Lets not forget isu. Its funny you dropped them. Ksu was looking really nice 2020 lost qb and won 4 games. One was to the sooners. Is baylor back by beat tech, already got 3 loses. Tcu is having a greatYEAR.
Jug again your useing a league full of teams like osu. Your always going to win if you pick 9 teams over 1. Idiot

I’ve never met a OU fan who wanted Gundy fired.
I’ll bet we could come up with at least 14 reasons.

You’re right every team in the conference may win the conference before Gundy wins his second.

I have to go back to this one Sicle… I agree with everything you said right up to your last sentence. I would imagine the coaches/recruiters are trying to sell the kids on proximity, culture, facilities, etc… Why would they not. I don’t think using Stillwater is just an excuse for not getting recruits. I think it is a real factor. Just my opinion.

So I’ll ask you this… You think using the location and size of Stillwater is just an excuse for not getting higher ranked recruiting classes. I understand you’re reasoning. Why then, do you think OSU consistently ranks outside of the top 25 in recruiting?

We have the facilities, culture, everything we’ve talked about.

I was looking at 2023 ESPN 300 earlier and OSU doesn’t have a commit from that group yet. Hell, TX Tech has 2 top 300 already. Both Texas kids. I know OSU has had better success than Tech. Especially recently. TCU had the top RB in the country commit in 2021. I know he has since transferred out but they got him. If the playing field is level for these schools as far as facilities, culture, proximity, then why doesn’t OSU get them? We offer a lot of the same kids our Big 12 counterparts do.

My simple answer is the exact same reason why OU’s recruiting in the latter Stoops years started to slip: Complacency. Recruiting SUCKS. I don’t think Gundy wants to bust his rear in the recruiting world. I don’t blame him one iota. Not to toot my horn, but I’ve personally been on both sides of the coin. I was a fringe D-1 baseball guy. So I know that side. I’m seeing it from the parent side. I’ve been in on multiple trips as an advisor to some kids currently playing D-1 baseball (including OSU’s current roster). When the HC comes on a trip, it absolutely matters. I don’t think Gundy makes near as many of those trips as the younger version of himself did. I think Gundy knows that he can win enough to give himself a chance & keep the programs head above water………so he’s gonna enjoy life. And recruiting…….isn’t enjoyable

Regarding recruiting, if you stop and think about it for a minute it has to be the hardest task for the coaches and staff to do. Identifying and evaluating talent would seem to me to be super hard in its self but equally as hard is getting the players, and a lot of time their parents, you want to come join the program.

Evaluating & identifying talent is the easy part. You can go to a HS game and the D-1 guys tend to pop pretty easily. The part that sucks would be where a guy like Gundy, who has accomplished a ton as a player and coach, has to go wine and dine a 17yr old kid and plead his case as to why he should come join his football team. Gundy has played with 2 Hall of Famers, coached guys like Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon. Seen athletes like Tyreek Hill and Prentiss Elliott. Blue collar guys like Malcolm Rodriguez…and you want me to basically “beg” for you to come play for me? With all the “Hat Shuffles” and big presentation these recruits and/or their parents think they need? The commitments and then decommitments at the last minute due to some other school offering up some NIL cash? Not many guys in their mid 50’s have the patience to deal with that
