Oklahoma State Ranks Last among Power Five Schools in Recruiting Spending, per USA Today

There’s a reason 5 stars don’t come. Usually when we get 4 stars we have to work like hell to keep them. BB come after them when they see they are good recruits. Tell me how many we have lost because of that ? Can’t remember the kids name but we got a commit from him before he was even ranked. Turned out he was a 4 , Texas came in and got him last year
Year before we has 7, 4 stars. Not many left because of the portal

Dude you can yell all you want. Its not gundy its osu.

This is okay if you don’t mind going 7-5. It’s not okay if you have aspirations of winning another conference title. In the mean time, K State has won two conference titles under two different coaches in the last decade. Anyone want to argue with me their recruiting is better? Gundy continues to roll donuts our way in that category. We need to make sure there aren’t any excuses left on the table for underperformance. Mark my words. This will be an excuse during the season at some point.

You say the same exact things Over and over.
Ksu has had 3 losing. Only 2 10 win season. Chris lost only his qb in 2020 and couldnt win anoattther game. Going with 4 wins isnt a great deal by winning the title.
The same stuff you say about gundy can be said about ksu and more so. Look with them going with Martinez as qb. You always talking about wrong player playing not having depth. You can say that covers howard.
Why do you even pay attention drunig the off season or season you only care about the final record

I don’t care. Try to stay on the topic here. Who has two conference titles in a decade and who keeps rolling donuts? Over the last decade we’ve also recruited a lot better than K State. I’m not saying this is all Gundy’s fault, but all the administration is doing is giving him more ammo to throw out there when we flop again. The final record also indicates where you’re at after the season is concluded. That includes talent, depth, coaching, and recruiting. Sorry, but that’s a really dumb question for you to ask. Then again it doesn’t surprise me a bit.

Weve talked about this before. You have to ignore the other 8 years at ksu. You talk about stuff that spands every year. When you have a losing season 30% of the time you have to ask how was their coaches recruits.
Doing well 20% of the time is great.

Dnt write be back just get a new team. How long would you last as their fan. Grow up.

So we win games. I have no problem with that. So where’s our trophies? Why do you keep ignoring that? Don’t you ever ask yourself why we haven’t won a conference title in nearly 12 years? OU hasn’t been as good the last couple of years. Texas can’t figure out if they want to be good or not. I would suggest with our recruiting budget shows how serious we are about the football program. You’re not going to get very many trophies when your budget sucks and you don’t fire slackers, and don’t hire proven commodities. Not having trophies may not bother you, but it bothers me and several others. Just use some common sense every once in a while. That’s all anyone is asking of you.

I have used common sense and logic. You cry about everything. Go find a new team. Who is going to be your hero next year. Matt, dave chris and sonny. None have made it to years. You compare the whole conference to osu.
Since 2012 we have 2 big 6 bowls 5 10 season. No osing.add to that we are now the only big 12 team that has no losing season for 17 years. Ksu and tech have 2 season.
Go and see how happy you are at other schools

Joy so KState is your new standard of your idea team ? If I remember right, 3 years ago Matt was your hero, year before last Aranda was on your idea of a great coach. Where are they now ? Even below us, after having a terrible second half of last season. Lots of losing for both of them in the years other than one. Is Sonny your man this year ? We will see after Maxx and Johnson are gone… reality isn’t your strong suit is it
:cowboy_hat_face:

And you make excuses for everything. How about we stop doing that?

No, just simply pointing out that a school similar to OSU’s position has more conference trophies than we do. Quite a shame, isn’t it? You keep up with those excuses though. That’s one thing you’re great at doing.

You make outlandish claims. I made no excuses doing this string. The opposite actually, pointing out what we have done. You ignore and cry

I’m not making outlandish claims. Everyone on here knows during the 2022 season you pulled out about every excuse you possibly could. Stop lying to yourself. When it comes down to it you’ll blame the recruiting budget and just about anything else you can think of when it goes subpar this upcoming season. The only 0”people you won’t blame is anyone on the entire coaching staff. You’ll blame the fans before doing that.

Injuries are facts your a moron. You taking your mom to your prom and saying you felt sorry for her is an excuse.
You tell me to stay on topic. When you deflecting about me supposedly blah blah blah.
Deflecting and lies dnt win debates.

No excuses for winning joy. We haven’t had a 2-7 record or what KState was when they lost their qb 2-3 years ago. They tanked, about like we did only worse after Sanders got hurt last year. You live in a dream world thinking we will compete for a title every year. Which team are you pulling for this year ? You going with Sonny since you like jumping on bandwagons ?

Yeah there are a few things that jump out at me on this deal. 1) OSU indeed does a very good job at developing guys. Theyve notoriously been great at turning average star guys into studs. Thats a feather in Gundy’s cap. 2) The key word to me is SPENDING. That shows Gundys lack of drive to go beat the bushes to recruit HS kids. Thats what you worry about with a HC whos been at it as long as he has. They grow comfortable and quite frankly, a little lazy as it pertains to the recruiting trail. This isnt just a Gundy issue…but its still an issue. 3) Id like to know the budgeted numbers and compare it to what was spent. If Gundy is only allotted this small amount…then its an OSU problem. If hes not spending what was budgeted…its definitely a Gundy issue

@kyleboone What is the OSU recruiting BUDGET? Id be curious to know what his Budget VS Actual is?

Kansas State hasn’t had anywhere near a 2-7 record since Bill Snyder’s first year. Snyder had two losing seasons during his second tenure (6-7 and 5-7) and Klieman has had one during the wacky covid season of 2020 (4-6). Since 2011 (Gundy’s only title), KSU has won two conference titles with two different coaches. OSU has been slightly more consistent, but with no titles in that time frame. It’s a fair comparison and I’d rather have KSU’s titles and a couple of bad seasons than OSU’s consistent winning seasons with no championships.

Now to the point of the article, it is obvious that OSU needs to spend more money and take recruiting more seriously. Some of this is the university, but much of it is Gundy’s philosophy. No two schools compute recruiting expenses the same, and it is very likely that schools may overinflate their spending as a bragging tool to recruits, themselves. Part of OSU’s low total may be accounting, but it is also Gundy’s MO. Typically, Gundy does not host as many recruits as other schools. He’s less likely to fly a few dozen kids in from CA or DC or FL, etc. like many programs do. Instead, the vast majority of recruits come from Oklahoma and Texas (as they should). Gundy, himself, also does not hit the road as often as some head coaches do. Gundy’s strategy as largely worked out and the reason for the lack of any other title (2022, for example) have as much to do with in-game coaching as anything. Nevertheless, Gundy needs to step up his game and the university needs to invest more money if OSU is ever going to win another conference title.

Well that is an interesting thought. I’ve always assumed that the “spent” numbers provided were either at the budget levels or over. In my 40 years of working in the corporate world very rarely did I see spending go under the allocated budget, it did happen from time to time but was exceedingly rare. I would be surprised that we found out that Gundy has a 2 mil recruiting budget but only spends a quarter of that. Could be possible I guess strange things happen in the world all the time,

Those numbers don’t include all the staff that OSU has in house researching recruits. They are spending the entire budget it just doesn’t show up in the statistics given to the media.
