Opinion: Big 12 Member or Not, OU Must Stay on OSU's Schedule

You’re wrong. Florida……plays Florida St. South Carolina plays Clemson. Georgia plays Georgia Tech. The SEC schedule won’t keep OU from playing that game, just tue same way it didn’t keep the other teams mentioned from doing it either. Again, OU doesn’t NEED that game. But I think they’ll do it as a gesture towards OSU and the rest of the state

Yea dude ur answering the wrong guy.
If ur going to be a big dog ur got to watch out for the end of the chain. Jef is the one.

We better not play ou for 5 years and the next 5 should be at bps.

Won’t happen because then the league will have just as many wins as losses. The reason for nonconf games has been to boost W/L records so leagues can have more teams qualify for bowls, which means more money. As well, it will make good to great teams beat each other up inside the league. Take the SEC, they only play 8 conference games vs the other P5 schools play 9 each. Math says that each SEC school will average 4 league losses each while the other leagues average 4.5 losses. Don’t think it matters in the B12 that accounts for 5 extra losses across 10 teams. Could be the difference in being 11-1 and 10-2. Alabama/Georgia only play twice in a 12 year cycle.

So let’s just wait and see. I say neither team pays the full extent and gets out before the contract expires. You say otherwise. I’ll wait to hear from you when it’s settled. We’ll see who ends up being right.

It always amazing to me how bedlam is sold out and still there are Sooners everywhere sitting in donor seats.

No sorry for the mix up in text. No niceties. If we do not land in a P5 conference then our recruiting takes a big hit and why would we schedule OU with an even more decided disadvantage than we currently have.
If we land in a P5 conference and are in the same division as say Clemson, then why play Ou, just to lose another game?
If we land in a P12 and our division has the likes of the Arizona schools, Utah, Colorado, Texas Tech etc then maybe we play OU. However, the P12 would have to balance the league regardless of geography.
My opinion is to not play them anymore just like A&M decided to not play Texas anymore and their rivalry was a lot closer in W/L column.

Only if they can get in to the playoffs with us.

There’s a reason why the SEC commissioner was in favor of increasing the playoff field to 12 teams, with no limit to how many teams from a conference are allowed in. With 16 teams in their conference, they’ll be playing at a minimum 10 - maybe 11 - games in conference, which is obviously more conference games than previously, thus leading to changes in the pre-arranged schedules in the future.

Again, you’re living in the past. A 16 team SEC conference will result in a 10 to 11 game conference schedule. Not sure how many of those rivalry games will remain in place after 2024.

This is the sec the make there own rules. 7 in the division and 2 or 1 on the other side.

The SEC is not going to play an 11 game conference season. They have 14 teams now and only play 8. The beauty of the SEC scheduling is that they have all these good programs but some don’t play each other often. Georgia/Alabama only play twice in a 12 year cycle. I bet when they have 16 teams they only go to 9 league games.

That’s your opinion. I don’t see the Conf going to 10-11 games. We shall see.

Regardless of conference affiliation, we will most likely need to almost run the table to get into the playoff, be it 4 teams, 8, 12, or 16. Why risk it by scheduling OU ever again?! And if we ARE running the table, we don’t NEED them to get us a national audience/prime time game. The reasoning for continuing to schedule them is faulty. But it demonstrates once again, how high above other sports that football is. This article never once clamored for the Pokes to schedule OU in basketball, baseball, wrestling, softball, track and field or cross country. Please stop trying to force a square peg into a round hole. It ain’t working. And the most level-headed among us don’t want OU on the schedule ever again.

Good point. Changing this from a football conversation to a basketball perspective it become interesting. Imagine if we could get into the ACC and the B12 dissolves. We would be the only program in the ACC from OK/Tx. Boynton has already proved he can recruit with Kansas and Kentucky. Our BB program could soar!

Look the sec let’s the poor teams play 4 chit games so the can try and get bowl. So there is no way there going to play 9 games.

They will NEVER agree to 5 straight at BPS. No team in the history of mankind would ever agree to 5 straight games at their in-State rival’s house. Would you ever expect to have to play 5 straight seasons of Bedlam in Norman?! Heck no!!! I want everyone (and this is not directed against you…just a general grouping) to let Bedlam die.

10-2 in aP5 conference will 80% get you into a 12 team playoff. Even Rutgers orKansas.
