I like patterson. But, his bad years are bad. You take the 3 good years out he is 38 and 43. I’ve talked about lucky in his 3 good seasons he won 10 games by 7 or less. We’re not talk about a juggernaut. This is a guy who had 5 straight 11 win season coming into big12. Then popped off 8 wins in 2 seasons. The guy can go to the bathroom at his house and recruit. And compare gundys last year with patterson tells you the whole story
Dan Mullen was a good coach at a program similar to OSU before going to Florida. He got fired from Florida. I’ve said it twice and I’ll say it a third time. The OSU fans and administrators don’t have the same mindset as some SEC schools. The leash at OSU is longer than it is at Florida. If Gundy were to go to Florida he has one big problem in his way. That problem is Georgia. If he can’t beat OU more than once every six years or so what makes you think he would do better against Georgia? He’s 4-7 against Baylor and 2-8 against OU in his last 10 seasons.
What makes you thinks he’s going to do better against Bama or Georgia (or LSU with Kelly now)? I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but Georgia would become Gundy’s new Baylor or OU if he would’ve went to Florida. You’re entirely missing the point here (as I’ve said 100 times). Florida fans aren’t going to put up with consistent losses to their biggest rival and settle for 4th or 5th in the SEC. Jug was make a reference that patterson bad years were equal to Gundy’s. Since patterson 3 best years are better then Gundy’s. That means patterson going 5 loses under 500 was as good as gundy which only had 1 losing season of 4 under 500 17 years ago.

The bottom line is if he can’t beat a second year HC from a school not named OU for a conference title, and almost lost to a first game HC in the Fiesta bowl missing three of his best players it’s reasonable to contemplate he’s not going to be beating Saban, Kelly, or Smart.
The guy isn’t a bad coach. He’s just not as good as you guys think he is. Gundy is a nice coach, but he’s not a championship caliber one. He’s scared to death of trying to win another one. Patterson had 3 good years in the big 12, and 10 wins were won by 7 or less. I remember 3 for Dave last year. It works the other way Dave had 3 games his first year that he lost by no less then 7. 2018 we had 4. You need to have the ball bounce the rite way. A player step up of just be in the rite spot. Only teams that are bb with competent coaching dnt have to rely on luck as much.
Gundy has shown thru out he does coach better because his lows aren’t that bad. You never made any comments about all the elite coaches gundy has had to compete with. When you can show what gundy does is actually worse then other coaches then you have made a point. But stop ignoring facts
