Yeah it’s like that mostly every season. When college football analysts see that we’ve failed to meet our predicted placement seven of the last nine seasons then they will be reluctant to pick us to win anything. It’s the same exact thought process for most normal people when it comes to bedlam also.
The story could be written about Gundy every year.

Wins games, never plays ranked teams. Loses every year to OU and Loses to Texas if they are good enough to have a winning season.

Maybe it’s his opinion but finishing lower than your expected placement consistently doesn’t give confidence to most people who know college football that Gundy will be winning anything in the near future.
Every year professionals will put Gundy up high. Because he is a great coach

Great coaches win something meaningful. Good coaches finish 4th in their conference.
