The only decent basketball coach we have hired since Eddie was stolen from us because we could not pay him enough. Penn State and Iowa have bought our former place at the top of U.S. wrestling. Programs from coast to coast poach our best football players every offseason because we can’t afford them. How do we respond?

We drop $40 million to give our fans more legroom at football games. Then we drop $50 million on a softball stadium. Then another who knows how much on track.

Our limited resources are a problem. Our leadership’s inability to prioritize how to use those resources is a big problem.

I have no problem with taking care of softball and track and field. They’ve earned it by their results. All the NIL money in the world for football won’t make a difference until Gundy and his recruiting philosophies are gone. Money is not the reason Penn State is owning us in wrestling. Cael Sanderson is the reason Penn State owns us in wrestling. Can’t speak to Iowa. We need John Smith to retire. The game has passed him by. We need new young, hungry blood at the top.
I understand your frustrations, but I’m not sure you’re looking at all the factors for why certain sports have risen and others have declined.

I hope they Add a women’s Volleyball program. It sucks that OSU is the only big 12 school without it.

T Boone’s final payment must’ve cleared.

Wrestling first, then softball. Wrestling sucks compared to Penn St and Iowa. Maybe it has past John but you don’t just fire the GOAT of wrestling
It sucks that you have to spend millions to keep up with the Jones’s but it is what it is. The portal is killing all sports

Think about where we would be without Boone’s money :flushed:

Looks as if there is also something going in west of GIA where the old football practice field was.

It is not about which sports have earned it and which sports haven’t. It is a question of prioritization. It is dumb to take money away from sports that people care about and that require a lot of money to compete in, and give it to sports that people do not care about and that require little money to compete in. How many track meets are you planning to make this year? I can answer that. Zero.

Further, dumping money into facilities is an outdated strategy for increasing competitiveness. It was always a pretty disjointed relationship but NIL/transfer portal has made it even more so. We are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on things that will lead to exactly zero additional wins in any of the big four sports.

On the bright side, when you are walking out of BPS after losing to Houston in a few years, at least you can gaze upon a sparkling new softball stadium.

I’m pretty sure Chis’s recruiting number is higher than ours ?! We need to keep our recruits , some are babies that don’t need to be here, the others want a BB thinking it improves their chances of being drafted ? I wonder if they ever look at the numbers of being drafted ?

Ok, here’s what I wish you knew: like it or not it takes 4 and 5 star guys to win championships. Period. There are gonna be busts, I get it. There will be 2s and 3s that can be developed. I get that too. But the more 4s and 5s you go after, the better chance you have of landing some. And since we are top 10 in wins under Gundy for almost two decades, then 4s and 5s are who we should target. Not gonna get em all, but at least be willing to put in the work. That’s what’s so frustrating. Gundy has openly admitted that “culture” and “fit” are more important than talent and that he’s been burned too many times to go after big time talent. Well…too F’in bad!!! It’s his job!!! That doesn’t teach how to respond to adversity at all. I don’t care what any other school does in recruiting. I care that OSU is giving its best effort. Under Gundy, they aren’t. Top 25 teams who are Top 10 in wins over 2 decades should not be pulling in classes ranked in the 40’s 50’s or 60’s. Simple.

Tell me this how many 5 stars come to the 8 big 12 school. You can go look up all the 4 and 5 stars we give offers to. We have a nice change of one in black. We had banks untill pfb came out with the tee-shirt deal and hubbard.

I do love you guys that hang on gundy words.

All this said. I dnt care if you got god as your recruiter 5 stars aren’t going to stillwater.

Bobby Reid and Herschel Sims were 5 star. It’s not utterly impossible. Star athletes go where they can win championships, make NIL money, and get drafted. They’d travel to Alaska if they knew they could have those 3 things. Stillwater itself is a tired excuse for accepting mediocrity.

Stillwater is hope to become a mediocre city.

Your a joke if you think gundy has held back osu football.

First years I remember us getting high caliber players during the Stanley years, Miller was highly rated and high end OL , plus DL, we went on probation. No one can tell me Willie didn’t pull something getting Thomas and Barry just happened to fall in along with Dykes we went on probation again. One thing Thurmond never opened his mouth about anything. Dykes not so much. At least he got the goons in it too !! lol

I get where you’re coming from on recruits. We had a 5 star the year before commit, we played him in the OL of Texas this year. Had a high 4 star this year that was committed, FTexas got him. So what do you do to keep them ? Buckets of cash ? They love putting us on probation. It is what it is when you don’t have cash and donors like a FTexas like they do. We evaluate recruits well, some don’t pan out, but you can bet your arse when we offer, Fexas and the goons go looking along with everyone else. The kid Rashon had at Enid was probably overlooked

For a brief moment I was dreaming of a new head football coach!

Did I say he’s held us back? No. He’s elevated the program higher than anyone who came before. But he’s done all he can. We need a succession plan. My only defense for keeping Gundy for about 5 more years or more is purely petty: to surpass Stoops in win total. :joy:

By now wasn’t softball supposed to have a new facility where Allie P. Reynolds sits? I hope he get a dedicated wrestling practice venue. Does the indoor football practice facility already need an upgrade?

Track already has a nice facility, we’ll never be what Arkansas once was under John McDonnell.
