“but these highly funded schools are biting at the ankles of the bigs”
There are the bluebloods that have more money than the others.
Then there are the schools overspending to try and get a seat. (Mizzou. Ole Miss. Miami) Tech is similar to SMU. They can throw big NIL at a HS recruit to make a splash. Or they can overpay for a portal kid. That hasnt shown to make a dent at all. The College Football haves today are very, very similar to what it always has been. NIL changed how the game was played. It hasnt changed who is running it. Flashes in the pan and One Hit Wonders never have staying power. See Tech and Colorado. I dont see either of those doing anything of significance. The bank accounts of the big boys arent getting smaller either. But hey, if you think Techs bank account is going to be big enough to get them into the discussion…..so be it.
We are talking about degrees of things and it’s early so i don’t think we know yet. I do think Tech is looking at this more longer term and expect to build on this. The funding will continue and my guess is they are expecting a big run in the next couple years.
ASU is different. They built the team from the portal and bounce backs. Now that they won, they have raised money to retain and strategically go after recruits. We don’t know what will happen to these bigger alumni programs if they start winning. Power might shift to bigger cities with bigger alumni’s.
I think it’s early and these new different coaches might surprise us.
You do understand that the Big Boys arent going to get smaller bank accounts? You do understand that they are still going to have the best of the best that they can buy from top to bottom? Go look at the front office for Tech. Go look at their facilities. Go look at their support staff. Their quality control staff. Their strength staff. Then compare/contrast that to what the big boys have. Its not even close. Double Eagle Energy is helping Tech get a leg up on the OSU, Baylor, TCU’s of the world. But my man, they are nowhere near ready to swim in the same waters as the big boys. That isnt done overnight.
ASU?!?! Come on dude. Dillingham did a good job. Pump the brakes here and lets see him sustain something. Mel Tucker hammered the portal in 21’ and went 11-2. Since then, terrible. Miami hasnt done much. Ole Miss went all in and won some games, but never even won their division. Mizzou spent a ton going in to last season and finished 4th in their division.
Has the portal and NIL taken some depth from the big boys? Absolutely. No argument here. But again, you acting like the NIL wallet isnt going to get fatter for the big boys too is odd. In ten years, the same bluebloods will still be running things in the Big 10 and the SEC. That isnt changing.
Mind reading again? I never said anything about the bigs not investing or fighting this🤷🏼. I stated a fact that the bigs are not liking this new world and used Tech as an example. You blow this up into a big dramatic bs argument. I hope you feel better getting that off your chest.
Who do you know at tech if you think they are looking at this as a 1 hit wonder? Have you talked to Cody? He will tell you a different story.
“Who do you know at tech if you think they are looking at this as a 1 hit wonder? Have you talked to Cody? He will tell you a different story.” LOLOLOLOLOL Hell im sure if you asked Rob VanWinkle back in 1990 whether “Ice Ice Baby” would be his lone hit that hed tell you a different story. Im pretty sure you had high hopes for Maealiuaki Smith as QB1 for the Cowboys on here too….that didnt turn out too well. Im pretty sure Mel Tucker sold the brass at MSU on his plan to keep winning….that didnt turn out too well. Very, very par for your course that you take the word of the CEO for his own assessment of the trajectory of the football program for which hes throwing money. Ask Gundy or Brent Venables on what their plans are and I bet you neither of them says anything other than positives.
Go listen to Cody if you think he is short term. He is intentionally trying to disrupt CFB no matter what you think. I know, so until you give me someone with real info from Tech, you have a nice day!
Yeah….ill take Jerry Jones word on how my Cowboys are doing!! Asking Kenneth Lay about ENRON was a good idea. Asking Rafeal Palmerio about steroid use was a solid idea. Asking you about Mali Smith was pretty sound idea. “He looks legit” and “is the best recruit ive seen in a while”. You see, sometimes we get some wrong. It happens to all of us. Myself included
For the record, I never said Cody Campbell or DoubleEagle was “short term”. I said “Flashes in the pan and One Hit Wonders never have staying power. See Tech and Colorado. I dont see either of those doing anything of significance”. Im talking about Texas Tech football. Texas Tech being deemed a legitimate player within College Football isnt even deemed a flash in the pan or a one-hit wonder yet. Felix Ojo and going 8-5 isnt what I would call a hit.
You wont get an argument out of me on that. Im still saying its not going to be anything that makes a blip on the college football W-L records. But signing Ojo out of Texas doesnt surprise me. This one….definitely has a different feel to it
To be clear here……I agree with you on Tech. The SEC & everybody is noticing. You were right. I don’t want the following to seem like I’m backtracking here.
But Hackett won’t end up at Tech. He’ll be in Norman this weekend. I think this one goes OU’s way.
Tech is definitely making moves. But they still have to win. I really don’t think Tech football as a program alters the landscape any. But we shall see.
