Report: Mike Gundy in 'Standoff' with Oklahoma State

Indeed you might have to kiss a frog or 2 before you find a keeper but being afraid to move forward is no reason to be a tree hugger around any HC

Doing it is one thing. Having to do it for decades is another, no thanks

It was like the 60th ranked recruiting class. I don’t think that it’s that big of a deal breaker if they bail. Plus it’s 2024 they can basically do what they want and leave anyways even if none of this transpired today.

Coaches get fired ‘for cause’ regularly and resulting in a much reduced buyout. The end game is not to win or stick etc…its to bring both parties to the negotiating table …and yes, what Gundy said is a legit ‘for cause’ andost assuredly the admin has legal opinion in hand before proceeding ahead

Do not get too caught up in whether or not “for cause” exists. It is just a negotiating chip on the buyout. These buyouts almost always get negotiated down, it is just a question of how much. It is in the interest of both sides to agree on an exact number and move on down the road without a lawsuit.

Were you still interested in keeping your seats for this 3-9 record with blowout losses we had this season? Just curious buddy. Mike had 20 returning starters and couldn’t win a single conference game. Nor could he find a way to get the best running back in the country past four yards per rush halfway into the season.

I honestly don’t think Mike has the energy to deal with all of this stuff any longer. If that’s the case, then it’s even more detrimental to the program to keep around a guy who still thinks it’s 2006. I did not see any energy out of him at all this season. You could see it written all over his face on the sidelines. He’s just not that guy any longer. Maybe he was his first six or seven years, but complacency has been a killer for him.

Gundy’s career is the product of how far an excellent assistant can take him. For example, Monken and Knowles were these kind of coaches. Gundy hires a fake OC and absolute fraud DC and has his worst season of his career. He may have made the CCG last season, but he also had one of the easier schedules in the conference last season. He also showed how vulnerable they are to lesser competition. It’s time for a change.

Can you guarantee me that’s what you’ll get? Yea….speculation doesn’t go very far Chump. I’m starting to think you’re Robert 28 now.

You’re as high as a kite if you think that’s Roberto. This dude is putting together coherent sentences in long paragraphs. That moron Robert could barely spell his name correctly.

Gundy is an egomaniac, narcissistic butt!!!

I’ve never once heard him say thank you and I’ve certainly never heard him say I’m responsible and I’ll clean up my mess!!!

When Gundy badmouthed the OSU fans, cause or no cause he should have been terminated as he walked out of the news conference!!!

Frankly I have zero empathy for Gundy!!!

I’m fairly sure this season he said “we want all the fans here!!!” and then once he started feeling the heat after is 0-6 conference start all of a sudden it’s “those losers need only their bills!!!”.

Over the years Gundy hasn’t cared a single bit about the fan base. Remember the infamous fart sound in 2018 after Texas? Everyone quickly forgets that Gundy only does what’s best for Gundy. Maybe not initially, but he certainly has over the last few years.

Is that truly someone you want to keep around as a HC? A guy that’s two-faced only when it suits him? Dude wins one single conference title and all of a sudden thinks he’s the equivalent of Nick Saban :man_shrugging:. The only reason Saban could get away with his rants is because he was good enough to do so. Not sure he would’ve talked trash to the people that show up to games if he were 0-6 in his conference.

I bow to your infinite wisdom, oh great one. I did not say a good coach couldn’t be found. Knee jerk reactions don’t work. Firing a good coach without a plan to fill the position with a better coach is not a plan. It’s frustration. My fear is this a contest between the BOR and Gundy. The players and fans will be the ultimate losers. Hopefully, I’m wrong. I’ll wait an see.

@marshall why did you remove ability to see discussion of the PFB + threads? Only way I was keeping up with all of this.

I’m gonna disagree with you here and provide an alternative analogy. You don’t go out looking to see what your next wife could be before you divorce your current one. Either the relationship works or it doesn’t. With Gundy, at this point, its clear it doesn’t. Our next coach may not be as good as our last one, but it doesn’t change the fact that the current relationship is broken and has to come to an end.

Same :frowning:

And how exactly do you know this hasn’t been the plan since November 4th when he went off on the fan base? During that time Gundy was 3-6, and the three losses in a row afterwards certainly didn’t help his case any. I’m fairly certain it’s frustrating watching coaches that receive top 15 pay in the country:

  1. Keep the best running back in the country hitting a brick wall.

  2. Run QB draw on 3rd and 15 with the slowest QB in the country.

  3. Not be able to stop anyone in 3rd and 20.

  4. Ensure we have the worst defense in school history.

  5. Ensure we have the longest losing streak in school history.

I’m also assuming that MAYBE…just MAYBE there was no better indication of “I’ve lost the locker room” than 52-0 drilling to cap off an historic season. You don’t GAIN players with those results. In fact, you’re more than LIKELY to LOSE them in the portal. Gundy is doing his best Pat Jones 2.0 impression and that’s NOT going to work with today’s college players.

If we completely lose a class (ignoring transfer portal for this conversation) then is it worth setting the team back 3-4 years? To me, that juice isn’t worth the squeeze. The smarter play would be to bring him back but start lining up for a much smoother transition than this dumpster fire.

Everyone is acting like the “for cause” is in regards to the pressor in which he blasted the fans. That’s not it. There is so much more. His contract has morality clause in it. Anyone who has been in Stillwater or around the program knows exactly what they have “cause” for. Agree it is a bargaining chip. But HCMG probably doesn’t want what they have out in the public. They aren’t going w/ the “you were mean to our fans” as the cause. I promise you that. They have attorneys advising them. These are very successful people on the BOR. They don’t just throw out “for cause” w/out having true cause.

Lame duck seasons don’t work. Ask Biden

I guess that’s one way to look at it. I usually shop around for new cars before I trade or sell my current one. Or have a house purchased before I load the moving truck. To each his own. You can have a variety of analogies. My main point was game the BOR is playing. They want to fire Gundy. Instead of being professional they want to show who holds the power or who has the bigger set of cojones by their conditions and ultimatums. Not a good look for OSU. Period.

What the hell happened today!? Seemed like a huge mess
