I didn’t forget. Just stating he’s went from BB, to P4 average program, to now a G5 school. I’m not real confident in that.
It’s not going to do any good if he has no OL or running game to help him out. Teams will just sit back 6 in coverage and force him to thread the needle.
I guess it was better than what we had the first year and we had no other options the next year. Maybe we should have grabbed a veteran last season.
Why are we assuming this guy is even here to be the starter?
Hey champ,
It’s depth. More bodies is what you’re looking for. We also lost a QB to OU, so we just need to replace the meat. He’s a one year loaner. I doubt he’s the starter, just experienced backup depth if you need it.
I was excited about Morris’ stats for this season until I saw the teams they beat. When Gundy goes to the supermarket, does he avoid brand names in favor of generic brand?
You say that until Gundy tries to start him and leaves him in for seven games (or longer) before finally removing him. Then we find Flores in the portal, and he’s ballin’ somewhere else in 2026.
He doesn’t have an OC, or you just don’t know yet because it hasn’t been announced yet?
I can’t believe we have ANY quarterbacks considering OSU right now. We have no returners from a near all-time worst O-line, keeping in mind the ones who are leaving were the best we had.
I just keep having flashbacks of Dax Garman running for his life every snap for most of a season until he finally got injured. But, I think those may be the good old days compared to what’s coming.
This season showed an experienced QB isn’t the answer. In order to win ball games you need to run the ball effectively, Championship’s are won at the line of scrimmage. That Million Dollar Man “Glass” needs to earn his money because both OL and DL were suspect.
Flores and Rangel have been true to OSU. If you bring in Morris you will run off one or both guys. Is it worth having a Journeyman come in for one year with the real possibility of having our existing QB’s enter the portal. Like I have commented before…watching practices the last couple of years Flores is really good. Now this is practice and I don’t know how well he will play when the lights are on but he was the superior QB or the three - then Gundy selects the worst of the three with Bowman. Let’s give Flores a chance - someone who has been loyal and!
And wired his turn. Someone we can build around for future success.
Many will disagree and it’s fine. I’m happy with our QB room. Might just be my feelings speaking but Maealiuaki Smith has a chance to far exceed Morris. We need a solid and proven OC at the moment. Forget the schemes get us a OC that knows what he’s doing and hired to do and that is to win. Preferably a OC that runs his offense through the QB and not a scheme.
You think Morris is entering the portal so he can be a ‘depth’ guy? Besides, even if he was, given that we lack NIL funding (per you in a dozen threads), is spending it in the transfer portal for a “depth” QB (again, your words) how we want to prioritize it?
Also would be nice if that OC can make adjustments, connect with players, game plan accordingly to the opposing defense, connections, and do what it takes to win.
We also don’t have an OC. As a QB, you could be committing to play in Del Miller’s Super-Secret offense.
Devastated by injury? Rangel who was not the primary QB and who started only one game was taken out by injury. Flores has never seen the field in two years was also injured. People are just naively assuming he’s good. But, otherwise, when your primary starter was available for every game, I don’t think you can claim the position was “devastated” by injury. Our QBs just weren’t very good and that was the problem, not injuries.
Hey champ,
Spencer Sanders entered the portal to be a depth guy. I’m sure if this guy came, he’d be given an opportunity, but if Flores is as good as everyone says he is, why are we worried about him losing the job? Oh, right because Gundy can’t evaluate QBs and he’s the worst coach in school history; you people are exhausting, miserable human beings.
If Morris just came in and outshines everyone, then start him, you’d be stupid not to. I don’t think that’s why the coaching staff wants him, though.
You look at last season and we needed to bench the underperforming starter and we had two guys get hurt and then we had a really green QB that the staff wasn’t comfortable playing. You bring in a guy who has several seasons in different offenses and you worry less about depth especially after we now have two QBs with “injury history”. It doesn’t matter where he slots in after it’s all been evaluated in the spring.
Two of our top three QBs got injured for the season and the coaching staff was clearly trying to move off of QB1 for anyone else. Our “primary starter” would not have started most of the season if there was another viable option. I’d call that being devastated by injury.
I think Morris is a good player. Coaches kid. Would be a pretty good starting QB option for the 25’ season. The problem is…what offense is he going to be running? Cpt Obvious here, but the Cowboys need to get this OC thing figured out asap
