Report: North Transfer Quarterback Chandler Morris Visiting Oklahoma State

I am also surprised that any QB would consider OSU right now, but I think it’s important to dispel the myth that the o-line was a “near all-time worst.” OSU gave up 13 sacks on the year, which is good for 15th best in the country. That’s the same number of sacks as Oregon and Ohio State and better than SMU, Notre Dame, ASU, Bama, Georgia, and Texas. In comparison, OU gave up 46 sacks this year–that’s abysmal. The problem with OSU’s line was in run blocking, not pass protection. OSU was 95th in yards per attempt–that was abysmal. As I’ve said many times, much of that was due to play calling and schemes. Even with lackluster effort, a better offensive coordinator could have easily found a way to increase the 3.7 average by a yard or more just by running out of different formations. But when you combine mediocre effort with mediocre play calling, you get mediocre results in the run game. However, pass protection has not been a problem for OSU in quite awhile.

Rangel didn’t get a start until the 7th game of the year. You can hardly say the coaching staff was trying to get away from Bowman when he was the clear favorite for the first half of the year. Again, Flores has never played a snap at OSU. He was 3rd on the depth chart, wasn’t getting reps in practice, and wasn’t going to see the field until the last couple of games, just like Smith. There’s a reason for that and it’s not just because Gundy is a bad qb evaluator. OSU lost one player who was going to see the field (and not until more than midway through the season). That’s not devastation–that’s just an excuse.

Good point re the sacks. I was being unfair to the O-line in that regard. Unfortunately for any future qb, essentially all of those guys will be gone, and the new qb will be playing behind a line with a lot less starting experience overall and/or less experience playing together. Which brings me back to my Dax Garman flashbacks…

Sanders went in to get paid and start. He was just dumb and didn’t have his academic ducks in a row to freely transfer and Ole Piss was the only one that would take him. If he graduated and entered as a grad transfer he would’ve found a different place and played his last year. He wasn’t even able to play in the bowl game for Ole Piss since he didn’t have the grades. I hope the dude got it figured out because after like 5-6 years of free college and no degree to show for it is embarrassing and sad.

We fired a DL coach that actually got a couple of players drafted, and hire a DL coach from Indiana this year that helped give up the most yards per rush in school history.

We’ve held onto an OL coach that’s just finished his sixth season here. He’s had no OL prospects drafted, and he’s had two seasons where is OL was considered average or above average. That’s not consistency.

We hired a WR coach to play pretend OC. That gave us one top 50 offense in 5 years.

We hired a D2 coordinator that gave us the 125th and 132nd best defense in the country.

We go to the transfer portal and get guys from Piss State U, Elon, and College of the Ozarks to come play at a P4 school.

The one common denominator in all of this has always been Gundy. He’s the one who hired and fired. He’s also the one that talks about “improvement” during a season that the team should’ve been excelling while returning the most starters in the conference.

If anyone should be trying to earn the money that they’re being paid (highest in the Big 12 btw) then it should be Mike Gundy. Who in the hell returns the most starters in the conference, and doesn’t win a single conference game? I’ve yet to see anyone here give me an answer on who else does that.

We had to lose four games in a row before our primary starter was finally benched. What the hell are you talking about?

I don’t know. I might miss watching someone slower than a turtle tuck the ball and run on 3rd and 15. Kind of intriguing to see if they can do it or not.

Bowman’s experience wasn’t the problem so it would be dumb to forgo experience because of how Bowman turned out.

Welcome to NIL and the portal. Isn’t it wonderful?

And it’s the same guy trying to tell me what I say doesn’t make any sense :man_shrugging:. Yea….I’m sure Chad Morris is looking to relinquish is starting position to go ride the bench (again) at another P4 program :man_facepalming:.

Lol  I’ll never forget that play. We might get some new schemes next season lol :joy:. I got a buddy who takes a shot every time Gundy says something about players not fitting into the schemes because he recruited them . Rangel is pretty quick and Smith has some wheels. I’m hoping we hire a OC pretty quick.

Getting them to leave is the hard part. Maybe Gundy’s NIL money will help.

Thankfully he is gone. Yea it would be tough to be worse than Bowman.

Better to be safe than sorry. Besides one of them might hit the portal. What’s up T Town? Long time no see. Okay I haven’t been on here…

Giving up 15 sacks is good if you have a qb that will stand in the pocket to throw but Bowman is terrified of a hard sack. He’s getting the hell out of Dodge if it even resembles a sack is coming and throwing in the 8th row. He probably cost the university thousands in lost balls … lol I nevef wanted Bowman back. I was hoping they turned his appeal down or Gundy told him to move on

I don’t know if they pick up a portal qb but I think Smith or Flores are the future. I haven’t seen Flores play , I have Smith and although Tech had almost as bad a defense as us I liked Smith. Guy made some good throws that game but looked bad against the Buffs
Everyone that’s seen them all play give the edge to Flores

Exactly this. Bowman was the Gundy and Dunn’s guy. They didn’t even consider other options until they absolutely had to. The “devastation” in the QB room was all due to poor recruiting, poor development, poor management–coaching issues. It had nothing to do with injury.

Lol. Forget that loyal nonsense. As Dan Hawkins famously said “It’s Division I football! It’s the Big 12! It ain’t intramurals!” You play the best player and then you try to get one better to replace him. It’s always been this way (or should have been). It’s even more so now with NIL and the portal.

That’s all internet rumor/humor. Bowman has not applied for another year. He’s done.

No one has seen Flores play at the D1 level. His HS tape is online and so is Smith’s. Look them up. Smith is much more impressive, playing against bigger and better competition. We’ve also see Smith in several OSU games, including two starts. One he looked really good and the other not so good. I might be wrong, but I don’t see Flores being the guy at OSU. I’d happily eat my words, but I think the fanbase is putting a lot of hope into a guy because the reality is so abysmal.

I think a large part of the problems in the QB room are because Gundy didn’t recruit well at all for a few years. They never looked for a replacement for Sanders and they didn’t look for someone after him because I honestly think Gundy was thinking Gunner was going to be the man.

Yea wasn’t lamenting the downfall of loyalty with my comment. Just pointing out,in a poor fashion I guess, that whatever level of loyalty existed in the past received some of the final nails in the coffin via NIL/Portal. Since loyalty has been erased from the landscape of college football it is no longer something to worry about since no one can really take advantage of it.
