Name may sound familiar because he is shown during every match madness for hitting a game winner for Valpo to beat Ole Miss in 1988.

I wish NOTHING but the best for Coach Boynton. He seems like a legitimately good man. I think we’ll see him rise in the future. I hope there’s no serious bad blood. AND - I hope the sieve of the portal doesn’t begin with this…and we ONCE AGAIN have to rebuild. We’ll see…

What I don’t understand is that any coach we should be interested in will be going to the NCAA Tourney, so they won’t be available to interview until at least after the first weekend of the tournament is over, which is say March 24….or 7 days until the buyout would have dropped to 6.6M. I don’t see any NIL money meaning a difference until players know who the next head coach is. Am I missing something?
I wonder if this is a termed thing. He’s being let go but it technically isn’t effective until Apr. 1. Or if April 1 is even a “hard” date. Some of the articles I’ve read referenced it as after the end of the season. Is it Men’s Basketball Season (which would be April) or OSU’s season, which has already arrived.
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer fella. But I’m sure glad that it did.
And yet when they were on this team we didn’t make it. Sorry but unless Cade Cunningham is on this team we weren’t making the tournament. He’s just not a good coach. He let his players take bad shot after bad shot. No development. He had one decent year and that’s because he hired cades brother. 7 years of garbage basketball.
I had my doubts but I tip my hat to Chad. Good move, and the right move. Let all OSU coaches know that success is expected.
Chad, please make the new coaches contract a smart one. Build in low $ buyout clauses for low achievement that is defined in writing. We can’t afford another 7 years of hoops frustration.

If you build in a low buy out, then you are below average in contract offers in a very competitive market, which leads to signing a below average coach
Agree wholeheartedly. Bad decision. At least should have given him one more year to see if he could retain the players and make noise in the conference. Also blew an extra $1.3 million by not waiting 2 weeks. As both a graduate and and a parent of a student who pays a ton of out of state money in tuition, I am not pleased.

Unless they have a slam dunk hire waiting in the wings that will retain these players, this is a stupid move.

boynton started at a disadvantage when underwood got the program in trouble,and he just couldnt overcome that,there hasnt been much attention on the basketball program or boynton wouldnt have lasted 7 years anyway.what OSU fans have to understand is its been over 30 years since the eddie sutton glory years began and almost 20 years since they ended,and whoever is hired is going to need 5 years of really heavy lifting to get this program going,i dont care if the next guy coming in has even heard of OSU basketball,all i care about is can he coach & recruit and turn this prgram around

My thought is something like conference wins 40-50% wins after four years allows a lower buyout but build the upside to be very competitive. I would hope an excited talented new coach wouldn’t think that is an issue. Just putting my thoughts out there, probably agree it wouldn’t fly. Just hate these one sided contracts.
In 2022, the last full year with available numbers, ISU had total athletic expenditures of $111 million; Tech had $104 million; KSU had $80 million; OSU $103 million. In fact, only KSU had lower expenditures (and revenue) than OSU in the Big 12 (TCU and Baylor numbers are unavailable since they’re private institutions).
So we’re in the same financial ballpark as ISU, Tech, and KSU financially, yet we’re the only one whining that NIL is the reason we can’t win and bringing up the rear in the conference standings. Thank you for proving my message with real numbers.
I assume a big part of ISU’s financial lead over OSU is that they sell out Hilton Coliseum for Men’s Basketball, whereas, we don’t come close to filling GIA? If that’s the case, then Chad and co. need a reminder that you have to spend money to make money.
