Report: Oklahoma State Gavin Freeman Entering Transfer Portal

Yep it is something to do with the coaches or NIL (which could be coaches as well). The only other thing I could think of is that they don’t want to be part of a rebuilding year but that can be a reason to stay as too.

Maybe for the early departures, but the guys who have hung around and have left lately? You knew next season was going to be a rebuilding year in September. I think they were either loyal to the school, waiting to see what would happen, or were genuinely excited by Morris and they got a cold reception.

Completely “olds” take here. I wont disagree that in the grand scheme of things, much has changed since the old days. But a kid like Freeman is not an NFL guy. He has a very, very small window to play the game I assume he loves. No one wants to sit. Everybody wants to play. There isn’t a program or HC that isn’t looking to replace a player like him in this era. Coaches are looking at portal options to replace you the minute they can. You can’t expect a 20yr old player who has a window to play to be more loyal and patient when the HC isn’t going to either. It’s not about a kid being unwilling to compete. It’s about everybody knows you are on a 1yr contract now. You as a player cannot sit back and pay your dues with the expectation of being rewarded down the line. That’s not how the game is now. Do you think all of the portal guys that transferred IN to OSU were scared to compete at their previous school? Or are the only snowflakes that are scared to compete the ones that are leaving?

Looks like someone is still sour :man_shrugging:.

Cant put a cap on wages until they become legal employees. Thats a very, very lengthy resolution. But changing the portal window and transfer options are much “easier”

Youre partially correct here in that hes not leaving because of a fear of competition. Hes a small white slot WR who willingly goes across the middle of the field in D-1 big Boy football. Hes competed for every opportunity he has ever gotten. But, you also cant be an idiot who is incapable of reading between the lines. Freeman was not one of Morris’s guys. Morris is bringing in his guys. Are the guys that portaled in to Oklahoma St afraid to compete at their previous school? no. Theyre going to the best opportunity for themselves.

You’re right. He knows what’s coming in is better than he is. That’s exactly what I said. He realizes he can’t compete against them.

Exactly. Because Morris has an eye for talent. No like our previous coach. Who thinks you can just fill a roster and coaching staff with anyone, thinking your previous “success” is going to take care of itself. That’s how we ended up 4-20 (0-18). Perhaps you should do a better job reading between the lines :+1:?

Yeah youre an absolute clown. Ive never, ever put anyone on mute on here. But you will be the first. Even when someone is attempting to have a legitimate discussion…you take it back to your ex. Tootles

Then go D2 or NAIA and be the man. The second a kid thinks he might be a backup he’s running for “greener pastures.” If it’s an “old take” to outwork someone, then yes it’s an old take.

@patrick0327 So did the guys that transferred in to OSU have a fear of competition? Are they scared to compete at their previous school?

Was what I said wrong, or factual?

I think a lot of that depends on what school they came from. I don’t expect a guy from LSU riding the bench to think he’s gonna have a ton of competition against him at OSU. Take Tyron Johnson for example. He came from LSU and ended up having a solid year with 845 yards receiving his senior season. Of course, he was stuck behind James Washington. However, that not the issue with this upcoming roster.

Now some of these other guys coming in from Akron, SMU, and etc might have to challenge a spot. Then again, when you have the most turnover out of every team in your conference you’ll probably get a spot locked in with the rest being filled out with High School and JUCO players.

Hey champ,

He muted you, dumbarse.

Considering most are stepping up in “class,” then no, they are inviting it. But yeah, some probably have…which is why I said this generation and didn’t narrow it down to OSU or any other school.

This attitude was what this country was built on. Guess it’s not the way these days.

Yeah, Gavin Freeman had scholarship offers to play at a few places coming out of HS, Texas Tech being one of them. Instead, he was believed in himself & he chose to walk on at OU and earned a scholarship. Like I said, you dont know what youre talking about. But yeah…hes scared to compete. I wont argue the obvious generational differences in society as a whole today. I was playing back in the late 90’s/early 00’s and its much different now. From parents to kids, its a generation of softer/less accountable humans. But to think that a player jumping in the portal is doing so because of a fear of competition is like I said, a really dumb take. Eric Morris has to win NOW. Hes been given the biggest payroll as NIL goes that the school has ever dished out…hes going to win with the guys he trusts. Gavin Freeman isnt one of those guys. Even though Freeman and Eric Morris were very similar players, neither has the luxury of waiting around.

It’s not 1970 any longer. Things are more complicated and difficult now. Hard work gets you nowhere these days. You’re going to end up working twice as hard as someone else, and the a55sucker will still get the promotion above you. That’s how the real world works these days.

Hey champ,

And yet you think Freeman is in the portal because the new guy is “better” despite the fact that he hung around longer than pretty much the other 50 guys who entered the portal. I think he was more than willing to compete, but figured out it was impossible to win the job through skill. Freeman is good. He’d probably be #3 on the list of people I wish we had retained after Gregory and Fields. He doesn’t want them, though.

Morris is making it clear he wants his guys, and I get this because he wants stability to get off to the best start possible. He’s not interested in trying to bring a bunch of guys along who have been around the school longer than he has. He’s willing to pass on talent to have everything his way. I get it. He’s got probably three years to turn the program into a winner. He wants to control the program.
