This comments section proves you were wrong the entire time. As well as Michael 13 “Gundy will fix it!!!”. Yea….the future looks bright with fired coordinators and a bunch of FCS players . I told you they would give Gundy enough rope to hang himself, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.
Actually the donors are playing the long game here. They are giving Gundy enough rope to hang himself after a 3-9 season, and that’s exactly what he’s doing. He’s too stubborn and stupid to realize it. Because in his narcissistic mind he thinks he’s the smartest man in the room, and that he’s going to actually do something with FCS players and fired coordinators.
Not sure if anyone has paid much attention. Gundy just went 0-9 in the conference returning the most starters in the conference. What do you think he’s going to accomplish with a bunch of FCS and few G5 players in the portal? In the end, if he pulls a 5-7 next season he’s done. He might get his buyout, but he was stupid enough to restructure his contract to a lower buyout. In the end, the donors get what they want. A coach with no issues being mediocre gone, and a new era for OSU football that isn’t stuck in a 1988 mindset.
Bills are paid, no debt to my name. This hire is a 3/10 AT BEST. Spent all this time waiting around while the portal is open to hire a guy that not a single other program in the country had a sliver of interest in. This is an unserious hire from a program that is very strongly trending in the direction of unserious.
Actually according to rumors Gundy will get paid 6.75 million next year and a 15 million buyout. This year, he was due 25 million so the difference is only 3.25 million. In Gundy’s eyes he still gets the money and a chance to prove it. I doubt it…
Did anyone ever consider that the BOR and Chad and Strum just kicked the can down the road to lessen the payout and make decisions more long term. Just saying….
Sure it was clear that they did. They could have fired him this year although it may have involved a court battle depending on how they did it. Instead they whittled the numbers down a little and gained some control back and pushed the decision to fire him,or not, to next year.
Exactly, facing a new rule that allows schools to pay 20 million per year, I think OSU chose to a financial decision and not a football decision. Does anybody believe Gundy can resurrect this program?
Meacham is better than Kasey Dunn, we had really good offensive lines and the offense was more efficient. With Spencer Sanders we were supposed to go back to the Zac Robinson style offense. Rangel and Smith will excel in that style of offense. Meacham wasn’t the worse hire. I liked his offenses when he was here.
I’d say anything less than 8-4 is what I been betting. Meachams offense should be quick to pick up. I’m also betting next here he doesn’t make it through the season. If I was BOR I would had hired a big name OC “Zac Robinson or Monken”, paid the big money, and promised him he would be head coach in 1-3yrs.
Monken and Zac are pipe dreams. Zac will get a shot at HC in the NFL one day. Monken, may not want the headaches of college ball. Money doesn’t matter. Malzahn just left UCF and 15M guaranteed to be OC at FSU for 1.5. Chip Kelly left UCLA to be OC at Ohio St. The new college game outside the lines is showing coaches it’s becoming too hard to compete.
If that’s their reasoning, fine. But if so, either have some type of actual press conference where at least every major person involved is on the same page to reassure your donors and fanbase….or they could’ve done a much better job of keeping that sh-t show last week really quiet. Last week, the restructuring was embarrassing the way it played out. Made the university look stupid. Follow that up with two skeptical hires when you needed to hit two home runs? Yeah…this thing just keeps getting worse.
I know what Malzahn said, but let’s not kid ourselves. The second FSU isn’t competitive, or Norvell makes a coaching blunder, he’s gonna be fired and Malzahn, with all his prior experience, will be named the interim head coach. Then he’ll be given the job outright, and suddenly he’s a head coach at a Name School and making $10+M/yr.
I wonder how many (and who) said no before Doug was selected, or do you think Doug was Gundy’s first choice?
This really does feel like the last ride of General Gundy. For what it’s worth, I hope this collection of old bones for coaches turns into a movie where all the elderly are messing with us youngsters all along and everything is as it once was.
Ya know, tell me about the good old days grandpa.
I love the Meachum hire. I have no Idea whom our D man is, and honestly, I prefer that over a known success or failure at this point. Being famous makes you cost too much, and infamous you cant find a job.
I’ve always felt we’ve had better success when we had staff members whom didn’t mind mixing it up when things break. Those staff members have to be able to talk louder than gundy when it counts though. Thats the problem.
I know OSU isn’t a flashy hire school ( generally speaking ), but I was kinda looking forward to a unique solution to all this .
A 32% pay cut is huge. How many of us would stay on our jobs if we took that percentage of pay cut? I understand after this season it was warranted, but there isn’t 1 of us on this comment section that wouldn’t go somewhere else if we had to take that cut.
I don’t think he was Gubdy’s first choice, but u do love the hire! We now have an OC that runs up tempo and understands the OL. There are a lot of people on here that would have loved this hire 4 years ago, now all of a sudden Meachum isn’t any good.
If you are saying that OSU didn’t fire Gundy because they couldn’t afford the buy out then yea that could be a reason. There are other possible considerations why they didn’t fire him as well. As for what went into the actual decision we can’t know and it’s is only speculation on our part.
I agree some transparency through better communications on OSU’s part is needed. A press conference introducing the new coaches and letting the media ask some questions would be nice.
Hey champ,
What was I wrong about? You’re just saying random nonsense. I don’t know what you think these hires prove or what you think it disproves but we’re nine months away from anyone stepping on the field.
However, if you think these are bad hires, doesn’t it prove you wrong that they were wrenching power from Gundy? Either that or the board makes poor football decisions (shocking). I, personally, reserve judgment until I actually have evidence, but I guess that’s silly.
Gundy ain’t gettin almost 8 million dollars from any other university. I don’t know what the cut actually is but I bet it’s still more than he’d get paid at most places.
