Report: Oklahoma State, Mike Gundy Agree Upon New Contract

my biggest question is what is a acceptable record to keep his job next season, we got 3 really good QBs and some other talent on offense. 6-6 use to be acceptable and 8-4 use to be a good season before the playoffs also with Texas & OU being in the conference.

You think he feels thoroughly embarrassed? I know there’s things he doesn’t like such as being called out or questioned. Part of me feels like he could stick it to us next season in some shape or form. I’ve heard from some reliable sources in the past he has ways to prove his point.

Yea I’ve no clue what the powers that be will accept. I for one expect to be in the b12 title game next year and if not Gundy is gone.

He better care!

I don’t see anyway OSU makes it to the title game next year. We lose so much talent. Obviously, we don’t know about the portal yet, but I cannot see the roster upgraded much for this next season.
Qb: a change in offensive philosophy will probably make this position better.
RB: down a notch or two
WR: if Stribling stays we could be close to this past season.
OL: it’s all gonna depend on our scheme, but overall I expect our talent to drop.
DL:again it will depend on what scheme we play, but first year in a new defense can be sketchy.
LB: ? Not sure where we are here, but since Oliver and Martin didn’t play much, I’m not counting them as departing.
DB: maybe the one position group that we could improve on.
Special Teams: ?

I dont care who Gundy brings in next year. Our talent is going to drop and there is going to be a new system on offense and defense. It os going to take us 3 to 5 years to recover.

I personally wouldn’t accept anything less than 9-3 the next season. Then season after that playoffs also in the conference championship too. We got 2 QBs that know the offense with a possible stud in Smith in the future, talented wide receivers, and a offensive like that looks a little better. 24th in NIL we should have a top 25 team you would think.

NIL and unlimited transfer portal has ruined college/amateur sports. I doubt Gundy is having much fun or control of the immature kids that have no loyalty to the brand anymore. One stinker of a season does not describe a coach’s career. Get over it and ride for the brand as we good pokes fans have always done. Go Pokes

For those of you wondering if a 3-9 team can turn around and win the conference. I would say you need to pay better attention. Because that’s exactly what Arizona State just did. Of course, let me tell you what Dillingham did:

  • He used whatever bonuses he received for more compensation to his assistant coaches

  • He went and got 20+ players in the transfer portal

  • Both his DC and OC have D1 / P4 experience

  • Helped institute a pathway to maintain 7 mil in NIL deals for players annually

He didn’t do all this whacky and outdated stuff Gundy tries shoving down everyone’s throat. Oh, and btw, the guy is only 34 years old. He actually learned how to run his program through Matt Campbell :man_shrugging:.

A 34 year old coach just won the Big 12 in his FIRST YEAR in the conference, and he’s only been there since 2023. That’s the kind of coach you need running OSU football. Not some guy that still thinks it’s 1988 and making a bowl game is a huge deal almost 40 years later.

Gundy’s ONLY CHANCE at winning a conference title in today’s college football environment is if you hire proven coordinators that are willing to deal with some of his BS antics, and also are willing to tell him to go pound sand. However, we should all know by now he’s too egotistical and prideful to allow that to fully happen.

You don’t need to personally know Gundy to figure him out. Pay close enough attention to his past interviews and body language. That tells A LOT about a person. If I were to bet anything. I would say he’ll continue doing what he consistently does best. That is finding ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in most of his important games.

We wanted change but knew it wouldn’t happen in the ‘good ol boy’ administration. We will look forward to seeing Mike and his new staff go to work. Maybe the new deal has incentives that will inspire him to get off his backside and quit measuring success by hours worked and start measuring by results.

We need to get back to extreme hurry up offense and press defense. We need something that entices athletes to come and fans to stay excited. Making the game exciting can cover up some of the downsides (temporarily).

I expect 6 wins max next season and not ever being relevant during the rest of Mike Dumby as HC.

But Gumby is great at it like his choices for QB1?

This! These guys who are obvious Gumby can do no wrong fanboys will never admit to this, but the type who need a boogeyman to blame instead of the guy making the big chee$e.

@jay15 One stinker of a season does not describe a coach’s career. Get over it and ride for the brand as we good pokes fans have always done. Go Pokes — All of us ride for the brand, it’s not Brand Dumby like you. It’s the institution and the teams and players, not an overpaid, egomaniac coach who calls loyal fans, alums and supporters miserable people who don’t play their bills and take care of their families, but you do Y.O.U.

I’m sure he will try to keep from putting his foot in his mouth but that will be the extent of it IMO. Could be wrong. Winning is the only thing he needs to worry about. PR is a non factor if you Win at a high level.

Your arguments are rational and likely correct. However in the new world of NIL and the Portal a quick turnaround is possible. It’s not easy that is for sure.

Experience over talent. Even if that experience is physically and mentally incapable of getting your offense down the field :man_shrugging:.

You know what…I agree with you. However, when you’re content with mediocrity, or just being content with being part of the 80+ teams that make a bowl game. That definitely describes a coach’s body of work.

The only time Gundy won the conference was when he had the #2 offense in the country (Todd Monken) and a defense that was #1 in the country forcing turnovers (Bill Young). Both of those guys were tenured and experienced coaches. Even then, we still found a way to lose to a 6-7 Iowa State team.

Gundy is only as good as the OC and DC he has. Kasey Dunn was why he didn’t win it in 2021. Then it finally took him three years later and an 0-9 conference record to figure it out. What did Gundy do after 2011? He started hiring some unknown coaches which has led to this point.

Gundy doesn’t learn because he doesn’t want to. If you think Gundy is aspiring to make the team better he would’ve at a bare minimum fired both of these clowns before the end of the season. Just look at the history from when he started until now.
