He’s one I was really hoping would stick around. Oh well, at this point might as well just get rid of the portal and declare every player on every team a free agent as soon as the season ends. What a total clown show college sports has become.
The one guy we should’ve really tried to keep. Sucks.
Well crap…
GO POKES!
I’m not surprised, but ugh I wish this wasn’t true.
But at the same time, 4 sacks isn’t ground-breaking by any stretch… and 3 of them came in one game against inferior competition. Is he really that special? Not losing sleep over it.
Well, crap.
We could still keep him if he wants to stay and portal money is good enough All of them test the water and I doubt we were paying him much
I’m nervous about the portal. We’re aren’t paying Coach Morris very well at $3.8mil a year.(Big 12 HC average just over $5mil) Golesh, Silflverfield, and Ole Miss’ Golding sign annual contracts making $6.75mil, $6.7mil, and $6.8mil, respectively. If we can’t pay our head coach at the going rate for a p4 starting salary, I’m nervous that we can’t afford a talented roster. Hopefully my pessimistic view gets corrected in January.
That’s just silly logic. Nobody forced Coach Morris to take this job at $3.8M. If anything this salary gives OSU more money to use in the portal.
We were just paying a coach double that. The salary number has nothing to do with “can’t”
In the NFL, several players make more than their coaches. Maybe that’s where college is headed. My concern is we don’t have the money to be competitive. I used the comparative salaries of coaches, hired in this cycle, as my indicator. Maybe it is “silly logic". How many successful programs are paying their head coach less, in order to afford a roster?
It’s all relative tho. Arizona state by all accounts has less resources than OSU and they just paid their coach 7+ mil . I feel like because we have been terrible and coach gundy pushed a narrative, there’s a false narrative of not being able to complete. Our basketball coach just signed a top recruiting class
I’m one of the fans Gundy was talking about. I don’t have the finances to make a significant impact but I do have an opinion. I wanna believe that there is enough donor money to build a competitive football roster.(basketball rosters are smaller and collectively cheaper). I don’t know that we can do that until I’ve seen it. The only thing I’ve seen is the head coach’s salary and the departure of high value player that I thought we would want to keep. A good portal can change my pessimistic view.
Well basketball raised more money than football this past season so there’s a lot out there to be had. Up to coach Morris to dig in and get it
nnn
I’m not sure Morris can use funds that would usually go to salary and use it for portal. Anyway Morris will try and up portal money
If by this you mean for coach Morris to get involved with fund raising that seems to be a poor use of a HC. Not saying he shouldn’t be involved at the periphery of the effort he should. Now if “dig in” means get out there and do HC things, build a team and start winning then heck yea. Winning at a high level is paramount to our success.
All HCs are involved in fundraising, it’s part of the gig. AD facilitates and helps structure things but in today’s world the HC does a vast majority of donor relations. Thus why were far behind last several years
If that is the case it’s a mis-allocation of resources unless the time needed to do it is low. HC needs to spend the majority of time doing football things.
If the head coach isn’t rubbing elbows and kissing butts of the donors, you’re going 3-9 at best.
