Stats and other information about six offensive coordinators.

But that’s who I want…

Fire Gundy, hire GJ Kinne from Texas State, and let him bring his whole staff. He played for Tulsa, and is having great success as a coach.

I think that college was tough enough with recruiting, but adding NIL & portal it’s a total headache. I don’t think we are going to see NFL coordinators (Monken & Zac) coming down for the same gig anytime soon. It must be so much easier just running an offense.

Even listing Zac Robinson in this “article” displays a tremendous lack of seriousness.

How so? Have you seen his offense in Atlanta this year? OR his super bowl ring as an offensive coach with the LA Rams??

Matt Wells as OC and QB coach.
Cale Gundy as receivers coach.
Keith Patterson at DC and LBs.
Joe Bob back to D-Line.

Nah-nah-hey-hey goodbye to Rattay and Randolph.

Why? He’s at the top of the list for future NFL HC openings

I think he means unserious as it’s not a realistic possibility. Why come deal with NIL and recruiting instead of working with grown men?

The “I am a man” coach should pose for his coveted statue with the foretelling “0” jersey Gordon wore throughout the now infamous 0-9 conference season of 2024.

Actions and words say much about a man: 1) his nonsensical “it is what it is”, shows a lack of depth; 2) his often used valley girl up-lilting expression “right?” assumes the listener agrees with his statement, shows uncertainty; 3) his addition of annoying words ( “where we are at”, instead of “where we are”) on the end of a comment, shows inattention to detail and lack of awareness he is on a college campus. Gundy does not have the mental aptitude to explain his losses, much less coach a team.

Gundy continues to act as if he is disengaged, his mind caught up in a so what, meh world. For years he has been lifted by exceptional players and a number of keen assistant coaches. This year, he was exposed as a poseur.

Under these circumstances, hiring an effective OC excited enough to work with the addle-pated Gundy will be difficult.

Best Gundy retire since he treats coaching like a part-time hobby and fans as a useless, cranky mob. His heart and mind are now on his cattle and his undeserved windfall. Ride on your tattered saddle, far away.

Well, there’s a lot there that I agree with. Gundy will never be a member of the Mensa Club. The dudes basically a redneck jock from Midwest City and he talks like it. Doesn’t mean he’s stupid but he’s certainly not polished. I think he knows football better than most and he certainly has compiled a decent resume. His limitations are obvious and frustrating and his arrogance (born from his obvious insecurity) and stubbornness always leads to his really tone deaf and head scratching comments and hiring decisions at times.

With all that said, I still think he’s more than earned the opportunity to try to right the ship. Let’s see what he can do. By next year we’ll know the answer to that. The game has changed so much that I’m not sure who’s going to be good or bad at this new game anymore.

Zac is making $500k-under a million a year? Money could talk and make a step back to college level. We were paying Derek Mason 1.2 million a year. We got money.

Fyi Gundy’s job or money may not be a long term lock. Board of regents meeting next week to discuss his contract.

I wouldn’t be opposed to hiring Cale to some capacity or even assistant offensive coordinator pending if they let the next OC build his own staff. Wouldn’t mind him as a OC either, he’s been a play caller before and have seen his work before unfortunately. Every one of the former OU players really back him after all of what’s happened and he can recruit well too.

Money talks buddy, everyone is for sale at a certain number. Last time I checked he’s making under a million a year, $525k a year to be exact. We were paying Kasey “Done” $750k a year. At one point we paid Derek Mason $1.2 million for one season and let Knowles slip away over a few hundred thousand which we ended up paying Mason just a little bit more that what Ohio State was paying Knowles.

If Ryan Day gets fired Knowles may be available again and still have some of the guys he recruited, which we still recruit for a 4 man front instead of the 3-3-5 we were switching to for some reason.

This is what I’ve been saying for a while now. I’m not sure how anyone else can’t see it.

Try 1 mil buddy. We were paying this dude 1 mil to run the best running back in the country through a brick wall, and to abuse his signature QB Draw trick play on 3rd and 15 with the slowest QB in college football.

Our only chance at Zac (or Kinne) would be as head coach in waiting, with a set timeline on Gundy (2 years for example). My hesitation with Arroyo is if he got our offense going, he will be leaving for a head coaching job the next year. I’m all about hiring the best OC thought so that wouldn’t be too bad.

The model in College is quickly going to the same as it is in the NFL, which is developing a “Front Office” that just allows the coaches to do football. Many are hiring GM’s to do the roster management. To do the scouting. To do the pay scale/tier. Recruiting will be the only difference between the NFL and College model.

My hesitation with Arroyo is that, other than some recent success, his numbers look rather pedestrian. Am I the only one thinking that? Maybe he’s a late bloomer, and I know nothing about the competition at lower levels, but jeez, there’s a lot of low/mediocre PPG stats in that list. Why are we so sure it would be a massive upgrade?

As much as I would love to have Zac back, I doubt its happening, and not just because he’s a future NFL head coach. Gundy was HIS head coach. Do you really think he wants to be seen as the guy who forced his college head coach to retire? It wouldn’t make sense for Zac to come to OSU and be the OC for 3+ years while “in-waiting”. So Gundy would have to put some kind of timeline on his retirement plans in order to get Zac in, which means that Zac would be forcing Gundy out in a year or two (which I think is clear that Gundy doesn’t currently intend to just hang’em up in 2 years). I just can’t imagine a world where that would sit right with Zac.
