Spring Football: OSU Returns a Lot of Talent, Production at Linebacker

I think the new B12 is a conference of peers.
Texas has an athletic budget of 240M. Ou has 177M.
Arizona 124
Arizona St 121
Kansas 118
Utah 115
Iowa st 111
Texas Tech 110
West Virginia 105
OSU 104
Kansas St 100
Colorado 95
Central Florida 89
Cincinnati 83
Houston 78
BYU, Baylor and TCU are private so budgets not disclosed.
I could see 6-7 schools win the B12 in the first 10 years of the league. I don’t think anyone will really dominate like OU did.

Obviously it’s not. They can win the conference.

Do you think OSU can become a major football program? One that not only wins conference titles, but wins playoff games. I’m not even limiting this to Mike Gundy as coach. Any coach, any reasonable coach.

Do you think OSU can win 3 conference titles in 20 years? We k tonow Gundy can’t.

I’m not making this about Gundy. Can OSU win 3 titles in 20 years?
Look how overrated our Basketball program is. 2 Hall of Fame coaches and a bunch of nobodies. We have a losing series record vs Nebraska…let that sink in, when have the Huskers been any good.
Does OSU have enough financial commitment to win more than they have? I don’t know.

Gundy 7.75 million
Dunn 900,000

K State
Klieman 5.5 million
Klein 825,000

I guess Klieman has zero chance of winning a second title in the next 15 years.

You spin off into narratives that are meaningless.

That’s true because if you’re a OSU fan, talking about conference titles is meaningless.

Would you rather talk about OSU’s potential to win a title or rather have OSU lose so you continue your hate narrative of Gundy? No need to answer, I already know your answer. The truth is OSU has a chance to win the B12, but believing that we are far and away the favorite is foolish. Why can’t Utah, Kansas St, Tech or some one else win. This is why you become so mad. You write the narrative before it’s a reality. Then when your novel doesn’t go to plan and bursts. You freak out.

Why wouldn’t Kileman have a chance to win? That doesn’t make any sense.

K State has a lower financial commitment than OSU.

Maybe it’s not about money and maybe it’s not about recruiting. Maybe it’s coaching since Klieman won the conference with less money and lower recruiting.

I’ve never said they are the favorite like Bill. The truth is OSU has very little chance to win the B12 as long as Gundy is coach.

I think you Roberta and Michelle would be quite content with every other team in the conference winning the conference as long as we make some crappy bowl every year.

Why do you make up statements about who would be content regarding bowl games? Why would OSU fans want other teams to win the conference? Again you allude to coaching, which none of us have any control over. Gundy’s contract makes it unlikely that he will be fired. What does that have to do with OSU fans on this site? No matter what the subject content of any story, you spin the narrative to fire Gundy. That shows a true lack of intelligence on your part. You must be content to play the role of a dimwitted halfwit.

OSU has the lowest recruiting budget in the B12

If we ever decide to get out of the mindset of just being happy at 7-6. That’s one of the major issues. You’re not going to build a major program without doing the things that major programs do:

  • Go after your largest donors (They aren’t going to invest seriously into a program that thinks 7-6 is good enough). You have to be able to market and sell a vision even to your own donors, alums, recruits, and current players.

  • Bring in past and present NFL players on major recruiting visits (We just started to go towards doing this. Many BB programs have been doing this for a very long time).

  • PROVE you can win CONSISTENTLY on BIGGER STAGES (Not just top 25 wins, but championships).

  • INVEST in the CORRECT things to build towards a BB program. (Recruiting, Retainment, Transfer Portal, NIL). We’ve never really hit recruiting hard, and our transfer portal ratings have never been solid. NIL also correlates with the very first thing I mentioned. Facility upgrades are nice, but we need to understand the current reality that it’s not a top priority to recruits any longer.

  • Last, but not least, would be COACHING. Major programs don’t lose by 25+ at home to G5 schools. Rarely do they get beat by 40+ against former G5 schools either. They rarely go into the 4th quarter in their OWN field up 13-7 against an FCS school. You won’t see major programs refusing to give the ball to their best players no matter who they start the season against.

Those are just a few things. Out of all these thing are one, maybe two, that we have already started doing.

I never said they were the favorite. I just said considering they return the most starters in the conference, and the best running back in the country with a couple of past All-Americans on defense that they SHOULD win the conference. Then again, I’ve watched this story play out in the past as well. Such as 2013 and 2017. When we were supposed to win the conference and also play for a conference title. Then found ourselves 3rd :man_shrugging:.

Do you think recruiting would go up with a new coach? I know Gundy can’t be replaced but nothing will change until he is.

You state that OSU has to get out of the mindset of 7-6. OSU has only gone 7-6 three times in the last 16 years. Further, that is their worst record. Think about how many better programs have had losing records in that time.
Gundy has averaged 9.25 wins and 3.75 losses in that 16 year span. So saying we are settling for 7-6 seasons is simply untrue. I want to win championships as much as anybody. I have questioned Gundy’s decisions at times as well. But to turn every post into a we need to make a change is a waste of time.
Go after your largest donors…you somehow believe that OSU has not done this.
Prove you can win consistently on the bigger stage. Unfortunately, every school is trying to do that.

Bill, you said we should have played for the conference title in 2013…there was no title game that year. When we played OU, OSU was 7-1 and OU was 6-2. Had we won bedlam we would have finished 8-1, tied with Baylor technically sharing the B12 trophy because they had no tie breaking system then. So we did in fact play for the title, we lost to OU.

Past All Americans on defense? Please tell me your not considering Freshmen AA as a returning AA. This is why you get so upset later. You keep writing your own narrative and when it doesn’t match reality, you complain.

I don’t know. Recruiting went up with Boynton and he still could not win.
OSU is not a magical place. You just think the grass is greener. You root to fire a coach, just to hire another that there is no guarantee anything will be better and could be worse.
You always want the backup qb to play.
