‘It passed the body unanimously with no debate, so it will go to legislature for consideration, whether it actually happens or not.’
Just what we need, another stupid state law and something else to distract our legislators from real issues facing the state of Oklahoma. How about we focus on making schools and roads better rather than mandating football schedules?
I wrote in my diary that I want elves to be real.
Silly
I think this would taken to court if it passed. I get the reason, but ultimately it’s a bad idea.
I think this is a bad idea until the university and the fans decide that winning 17% of the time isn’t good enough. It took Mike Gundy 19 years to get to the winning percentage of the coaches before him and ¾ of the folks on here were fine with it. Wins in games like bedlam come naturally with teams that start winning the conference. It doesn’t come to teams that dumb down their schedule so they can make a bowl game.
Am I crazy or is Gundy not HC now? I thought we fired him and hired Morris? I thought we did that because we were not winning? Did I miss something ar1?
Gundy was fired because of his inability to adapt and change. Years ago AR said Gundy’s philosophy was “it’s better to lose, than to change”. That’s exactly what happened. I’m pretty sure he was the first one out of all of us to predict Gundy’s downfall. That inability to change only enhanced once NIL was introduced. Many of us knew that even if Gundy got the donor commitment desired it wouldn’t matter. Sometimes past behaviors predict future outcomes.
Donors aren’t going to invest in a person they no longer have any competence in. Boone made a massive donation only to get one conference title out of it. While schools with a lesser donor base and older facilities won the conference more than Gundy did. Gundy literally had no excuse for only winning the conference once in 20 years. It’s the idiots on this forum and elsewhere that made the excuses for him. Until they couldn’t any longer.
Even then, you still have people on here (like HeyChamp) that won’t credit this past season’s failure towards Gundy in any way shape or form. They also consistently fail to mention who was the HC the entire season before that when we still went winless in the conference
. Part of the reason Gundy was around for so long was because of delusional narratives such as these.
It literally took becoming the doormat in a conference with lesser competition, with the best coach in school history, to finally convince the NPCs out there that he wasn’t nearly as good as they thought. I’ll give him credit for making a few good hires (Holgerson, Monken, Knowles). His best years was when he hired assistants that gave him the middle finger and did what they needed to.
I’m on board with most of what you’ve shared. I backed Gundy, believing he was eager to improve things, until 2024 came around. It became clear then that he wasn’t just the solution but also the issue. I know some of you have been pointing this out for years, and you were spot on. My response to ar1 is that he’s no longer with us. We’ve made some changes that seem like great ones, so why keep focusing on the negative about Gundy? He’s gone, and let’s focus on the future.
How many years did it take you to figure out 2011 was his peak and he would never get back there again?
The article is about bedlam, how many times did you come on here and say Gundy should have been fired for his bedlam record and lack of conference championships? I for one was not content with 4 bedlam wins and 1 conference title in 19 years, but since you didn’t have a problem till 2024 obviously you were content.
This is peak dumbassery from politicians. Absolute nothing burger as far as having any legitimacy to it. Merely pandering to their base.
Dude, he’s gone. Everyone agrees that he needed to be gone. Maybe you were right and it should have happened sooner, certainly before 2024. My point is that maybe you need to move on now and support the Pokes and not just hate on Gundy. I’m starting to think your entire identity is tied to hating the guy. Might need to name a new disease after you. GDR which stands for Gundy Derangement Syndrome. Just saying.
Agree 100%. It’s a headline grab and nothing will come of it.
Probably about as many years as it will take you to stop talking about it.
We’ve been called everything in the book for telling people how Gundy really is, and what would eventually happen. Then, all of a sudden, now we can’t talk about a past OSU coach and his dramatic downfall? It was okay for people to tell us how stupid we were for years. Now, all of a sudden it’s a problem to talk about how right we were about it?
We gain ZERO by this other than a non conference loss 8 out of 10 years. Why does our fan base repeatedly want something so one sided? A win against anyone is always better than a loss. I’d much rather beat a UTEP or similar than lose to OU.
$$$, always $$$
When Gundy’s your coach, sure. Don’t know with an Eric Morris at the helm.
Again it’s about bedlam! My first post was about how the university and fans were content with winning 17% of the time. I brought up Gundy because for 18 years, he was winning 17%, yet university and fans were content. If Gundy had won 6 games each of the last two years and we were still playing bedlam and he lost both of them, he’d still be coaching and y’all would be happy as clams.
