It’s been so long.
Nice to see OSU getting some positive attention after being in the wilderness for two years. However, it’s still way too early so not putting much stock in it.
I think we can get to the 6 win mark next season.
Sept. 5: At Tulsa - hopefully a Thursday game so more time to prep for game 2*
Sept. 12: vs Oregon - a see what we got game
Sept. 19: vs Murray State*
Sept. 26: At West Virginia - haven’t heard a lot of positive talk coming out of Morgantown.
Oct. 10: vs UCF - barely beat oSu last year???
Oct. 17: At Houston ? Defense should be syncing at UH
Oct. 24: vs Colorado who knows what to expect???
Oct. 31: At Iowa State - EM beat this coach last year at WSU.
Nov. 7: At Kansas State - expect a battle and max physicality - who wants it more?
Nov. 14: vs Texas Tech - will the team be hyped for their coach?
Nov. 21: At Arizona State - no idea???
Nov. 28: vs Kansas - limping into this game?
6 wins in bold. IMHO a good shot at UH, CU, KSU if things are rolling.
Colorado is terrible. We got beat them in Stilly
Looks like Morris hired an assistant director of player personnel from the L.A. Rams??? Was that Kenyatta’s gig?

Sorry, no orange koolaid this time. I stopped drinking it 2 years ago.
If we get to 6 wins then I’ll be ecstatic with Morris’s performance. I assume Oregon is a loss, so that means going 4-5 in conference which is 4 more conference wins than we’ve had in the past 2 years combined.
Yeah, without any other context, 6 wins is a successful season. I don’t know about it inspiring ecstasy in me, but I’d be optimistic about the future. Based on last year’s standings, an average Big XII team should be able to get 6 wins, but average would be a nice improvement. Maybe WVU, Colorado, or UCF take an unexpected jump, but Iowa State is sure to tumble. Arizona State might drop off a bit. Five wins would be ok. Four is a failure.
I know this sounds harsh but 6 wins from Gundy would have everyone losing their minds so I don’t know why we should cut anyone else slack when we wouldn’t give to him. For me whoever the coach at OSU is 6 win’s for one season I guess they get to keep their job but anymore than that then we should seriously consider saying adios.
Because we’re coming off of two disaster seasons, plus he’s new and establishing a program. You should get some slack coming in new which is part of why I didn’t want Gundy to end it like he did: the team reset also resets expectations. I agree with back-to-back 6 win seasons being bad. If he wins six this year, with the continuity he should have at QB and elsewhere plus a recruiting class under his belt, he probably needs to win 8 next season and be in contention for the title.
Again I am probably being harsh but none of these are excuses in the new era of collage football. In the portal era past seasons and needing time to establish a program are out the window IMO. As for him being new? He’s moved into several different programs and excelled so there maybe some things different at OSU but he is not seeing anything totally new. Again 6 wins is the floor first time out and I will personally be disappointed, not that it matters to anyone but me, if we don’t get more wins than that.
Yes and no. Sure, programs can get up and running faster, and maybe he will, but a guy taking on a new role and not immediately succeeding year one is a bit much to ask. Are you out on Lutz? So far, it looks like he’s going to be a bottom half of the league guy this season. He really only has to get 7 or 8 guys together instead of the 50-60 you need in a football program.
Yes, he’s excelled in lesser tiers, but each time you go up a rank, it’s tougher and more competitive. I can see there being a learning curve.
I recognize that the team is no longer a championship level squad. The difference between Gundy and Morris is that Gundy rode us back down to that level. I wasn’t ready to run Gundy out of town when he started at 4-7. And 6-6 in year two showed improvement. But I recognized where the prior coaches had left the program and thus the new coach gets judged on that standard.
So Gundy’s first season was a failure then?
I’ll hold Morris to the same standard everyone did for Gundy. He needs to win four games his first season.
Hey champ,
Maybe, but it was a different situation. OSU had a bare pantry in 2005 and arguably the best player got kicked off the team. Morris supposedly has an excellent portal class, there’s a ton of money behind him, the school is much more established now with a winning tradition. In hindsight, maybe we should’ve been able to beat Baylor, for instance, in 2005 but there was no expectation that we should. No one had us as a fringe top 10 team like apparently this incoming team is.
I’m not saying we should fire Morris if he only wins 4 games, but it’s a failed season.
You know what’s comical? The same people that tried to excuse Gundy for going 0-9 in conference play, and basically winning 4 games in the last two years are the same ones saying Morris better get to 6 wins
. When does the double standard end?
Sooo……the new guy needs to win 6 & 8 in his first two seasons or else? Meanwhile, did you have the same bar for Gundy in his last 2 years?
1.) I’m actually trying to lower expectations on Morris. You’re calling 8 and now you’re saying expecting more than 4 is too much, even though I said he shouldn’t be fired if he only wins 4. I just said it was a failure. I said if he wins 6 this year, the expectation for the following year should be 8. That’s not unreasonable as he’d have continuity at QB and elsewhere.
2.) In Gundy’s last two seasons, he went to the conference championship, but obviously I think 0 wins in conference was a failure. Have I not said as much? I said it was a disaster and that I understood firing him, but I personally wouldn’t have.
3.) Which is it? Is this the era that you’re supposed to be able to build a competitive team faster than ever or not? If it is, then his expectations need to be higher than the guy who was fired for not adapting to said era. More than 4 wins is not asking for a lot.
