A look at some of the major records Gundy Era players hold.
Man, don’t “both sides” this. If we look at this objectively, we should say what a great coach Gundy was, what a tremendous era it was that put us back on the map and expanded our footprint, and everyone should agree with that. Instead, people are going to want to grind an axe and take whatever excuse to turn the few blemishes into the whole story. If the next era even matches this, we will be living a charmed life.
I was making a facetious remark based on the observation that every time there’s an article about football or especially Gundy, the comment section typically devolves into a shouting match and it’s usually the same people. Not once did I attempt to present both sides as equally valid (both siding).
We all know what he accomplished, and we all know how his arrogance and laziness decimated the program these past 2 seasons. Let’s look forward with the new regime.
21 years, 1 conference title, and we paid Gundy 100 mil for that. Not to mention the billionaire alum that helped him out tremendously as well. Maybe you feel as if you got a good return on the investment. Some of us feel differently. I can agree Gundy’s first 7-8 years was good though. I’m trying to remember the last time a coach at a decent P4 school went completely winless two years running in conference play
.
18 winning seasons in a row and you sanctimonious sh#?s are complaining . You obviously didn’t go through the post Barry Sanders years in the 90’s where we couldn’t even get to a bowl game or even the 1960’s or early 70’s. We had to go through a polarizing shift in portal and NIL adjustment, to bad boo hoo! The GOLDEN AGE of oSu football was GUNDY and you can’t take that away!
In 1990 there was 19 bowl games, for most of Gundy’s tenure there was 41 bowl games. $165 million to football in 2006. Let’s just keep things in perspective.
I read this article and had Jarrod’s exact thoughts. And there it is!!!
Yep. Just like clockwork ![]()
You obviously haven’t seen where 4-20 (0-18) was sending us right back to the early 90’s. We told you Gundy was Pat Jones 2.0, and some of you refused to listen. I already told you he did good his first few years. Pat Jones did the same thing. If you consider one conference title in 20+ years to be a “golden age” then perhaps you should go talk to Baylor and K State who accomplished more in that category since 2005
.
Why don’t you all go find another team like Baylor or K-State cuz ours is never going to live up to your expectations! Yes GOLDEN AGE! Best ever in our history! I for one enjoyed every bit of it until the reckoning so be Loyal and True or jump off Bullet cuz your full. Of Bull$h&t!
Doesn’t matter, if you won 6-7 games in 1990 and were a Big8-12 team you were in a bowl and we couldn’t do it. We had winning records every year after Gundy’s clean up first year. Win 18 yrs in a row! Even the Tyreek year! not easy to do.
Since when is accepting coerced mediocrity a part of being Loyal and True? This is exactly why we have one conference title. While other programs who have been consider “less successful” than us have more
.
How do you feel about Eddie Sutton? He only won the conference twice in 16 years….
I never understood the Gundy arguments. Why can’t he be both? He is the legend that revitalized OSU football and turned it into a nationally successful, fun-to-watch, program, and also be the guy who failed to adapt to the realities of the modern game and led OSU back to the cellar? Because from where I sit, both statements are true.
Because it isn’t in the cellar? Did we snag one of the most highly coveted coaches and get a top tier portal class? Yes. Cellar dwellers don’t do that. Yes, he didn’t do well in the last two years of the portal/NIL era, but he didn’t erase the foundation he helped build.
I agree
So you feel you’re “coerced”? Go be a Buddy Campbell and then you can complain and make extraordinary changes.
No, I’m saying you guys were persuaded that “this is as good as it gets” and ate up every word Gundy spit at you guys. Some of us are smart enough to know what’s going on. Gundy’s philosophy is that it’s better to lose than to change (credit to AR on that). I’m pretty sure he proved his point in his last two years of “coaching”.
