The Mike Gundy Era Rewrote Oklahoma State's Record Book

Well, you’re talking out of both sides of your mouth, so I agree with one side in that Gundy had a bad last season and had a bad start to the next one and so our record was in the cellar. However…

Here where you first mentioned the cellar, you’re talking about the state of the program and not just record. The way you phrased this makes it sound like the program is in as bad or a worse place than when Gundy took over. That’s nonsense. The school has more national recognition, it has more money, and what cost Gundy his job is that it has expectations from a recent history of sustained success which is evidenced by what you yourself said…

Our recruiting and platform are already where you said it would be once the program has been restored. We got one of the nation’s top coaching candidates. We had the donor dollars to get one of the top portal classes. Ergo, we are not “in the cellar”.

Ummm says the guy constantly moving the goal post :man_shrugging:.

This isn’t what you said previously.

Weren’t you just saying a month ago or so that you didn’t think the top portal class was going to do much? Pretty sure you said you think we’re a 5 win team.

Hey champ,

When did I say we don’t have more donors and money in 2026 compared to 2006? Granted, Boone is gone, so I’m not sure how that skews things, but every school serious about football is pouring more money into their programs.

I said 5 in an average year, but I think our schedule looks soft, so maybe 6 or 7. I haven’t changed my stance on that. I think you just think I move the goal posts because you’re illiterate and then make things up to fill in your lack of reading comprehension. I’m not sure the Tech game is in play with the QB situation, but it might push our odds a little closer to the 7 mark.

Anyway, that’s not even the point. The point is that we are a strong enough program to pull that kind of class. 5-7 wins next year is a very good debut and then we’re right back in the mix again.

If you want to know what the cellar looks like, it’s the basketball program. We go years and years spinning around in circles and looking for any sign of life. We’re not pulling it top coaching candidates and not pulling in massive portal hauls. We had the 40-ish portal class last year and we moved to like 35-ish and people are trying to convince themselves to be excited.

Talk out of both sides of my mouth? I explicitly stated that he was a legend to get us where he did, but that he also dragged us down to where he did. I’m talking both sides because both statements are true.

I’ve been an OSU fan for much longer than Gundy has been our coach. I had season tickets for the Bob Simmons years (still waiting for the Del Miller super-secret offense). And never in my history, until the last two years, has OSU gone 0-fer the conference, and we did it two years in a row. Gundy took over a team that had just gone to the Alamo Bowl, so unlike Chad Morris, he didn’t step into a program that was terrible. Les Miles did that, and got the ball started. And I give Gundy credit for keeping that momentum. But lets be honest, with OU and Texas out of the conference, the OSU program was gifted the opportunity to be the big dog in the conference, and Gundy pooped that bed.

Are we? What was our recruiting class ranking? 70th per Rivals. Yes, we had a good transfer class, thanks to two factors: 1) The coach we hired brought a dozen of his best players with him (a benefit we won’t have going forward) and 2) The donors who were tired of Gundy’s nonchalant malaise at the top of the program opened their wallets once he was fired. Both of those are 1 time boosts, not permanent structural advantages.

You said two years ago we didn’t have money. I told there’s more NIL money than you think. The very thing you keep forgetting is that people aren’t going to invest in someone who’s already proven he can waste a billionaire alum’s investment. I’ve told you this countless times. It’s just a simple fact you seem to keep forgetting :man_shrugging:.

Or Ketchup has been right about you the entire time :+1:.

Hey champ,

I don’t think we have national championship money. I don’t think we have Texas Tech money. We have solid, average to above average Big XII money, probably. So, money to do what?

Only weak adzes in here are you and your son that won’t man up and pay Marshall to keep talking about Gundy when he’s gone in case you haven’t realized it. You brag about telling Holder this and that when you haven’t done one thing but run your mouth. Big mouth behind a keyboard

Well Karen, man up and learn to hear other options without losing your chit and trying to get people kicked off. You haven’t been right on hardly anything on here, so you might learn something.

Before Gundy being fired we were a mid-tier school in the conference as far as NIL was concerned. I assume we need to remind you again. Because as AIX pointed out, we’ve been DFL in the conference (0-18). Meaning our NIL fund can’t even keep us in the mix to be a middle tier conference team in the weakest P4 conference.

OR, just HEAR ME OUT….we had a coaching problem? You don’t invest money into someone that gets worse in a conference that gets easier. In 2024 you literally had no OU and Texas, an extended CFP, and 19 returning starters from a 10 win team. Going completely winless in the conference.

Nobody said anything about money for a national title either. You might first want to focus on actually being able to win your conference first :+1:. Perhaps even a conference game.

It would be nice to wave a wand and invoke the Beta factors to quantify wins and losses created by TBP donations to the football program? Factor in the shiny new facilities (bye bye rustoleum); positive PR created by donations, upgrades, training table, weightroom, etc. Removal of the negative recruiting against previous facilities and support funds. Would also need to factor in the academic money Boone gave because that also impacted support for oSu in general and surely that translated to the football program as well. Wasn’t his last big donation north of $60 million for scholarships?

What say you? Did that translate into some big program turnarounds in W v. L???

Not trying to stir the pot, just thinking outloud….

It’s better to be wanted, right? Or you end up retaining the Kasey Dunn, Bryan Nardo, and Mike Gundy’s of the world. Better to be known as a successful lily pad than become the next Kansas of old :+1:.

That, and nobody seems to take into account that Texas sucked and the conference became easier to win (which equals more total wins) during a lot of Gundy’s era.

Mike Gundy got us to be a continual top program in the Big 12. We had several double digit win seasons, excellent players and a really good bowl record (if memory serves). I rallied behind him and the boys for most of my life. He definitely wasn’t perfect. Had a horrible record against OU, even in years when we probably should have won. And in those greatest of seasons there always seemed to be one misstep that took us away from conference or national championships. But there was definitely an upwards trajectory that he led us through, as the head coach. And he tried to surround himself with assistants and coordinators that pushed us to victory. Glass. Monkin, Knowles. Great coaches. And then there were guys that wouldn’t muster in high level division 1 football. I don’t want to get into all the other stuff but I loved Gundy and criticized his choices and calls throughout his career. Hate the way it ended, but I loved going to every football game during my tenure as a student (even picked up the stadium after the games a couple seasons). He’s a legend. And here’s to the hopeful next step of great Cowboy football he helped provide. Go Pokes!

We kept telling people like you for years how this would all end. Put aside pride and arrogance for just a moment. Maybe have some humbleness and humility to actually give us credit where it’s due?

You would know about being a woman jug , you talk like a real p*ss. A man doesn’t throw a fit like a woman when they can’t get their way. Go pay Marshall and quit mooching off him. Real men man up, you don’t have it

I told you don’t reply to me. You only want to talk about Gundy I’m glad he was out coach for. 18 years, the last 2 no. All you trolls want is to cause arguments I. I don’t talk to coward that slink back in after leaving on a bet I don’t like you either
