I’ve never stated he wasn’t respected nation wide. The only statement I’ve ever made about Gundy has broken down this way:
- He’ll win you lots of games
- He won’t win you multiple championships
- He’s barely a risk taker
- He doesn’t change until disaster strikes
- Some of his hires and QB decisions deserve scrutiny
I’ll say it for the billionth time here, and hopefully you don’t forget this time. If you want to make bowl games and have winning seasons then Gundy is your man. If you want multiple conference titles and CFP appearances then (currently speaking) he’s not your man.
Now, maybe that changes since we don’t have to face OU and Texas every season, and the fact that the CFP is expanding. However, I have the feeling if we can’t win the conference when Texas and OU aren’t a factor, or when we’ve returned the most starters (which has happened in the past). Then I wouldn’t be counting my chickens before the eggs hatch.
They say Gundy does more with less. However, I’ve also seen Gundy do less with more. So the statement that he does more with less isn’t always necessarily true.

Gundy one in 20, but you already have it 1-5 in conference championships or games You think the next coach will start bringing in all 4-5 stars ? It keeps going back to what I keep saying, and you purposefully ignoring it. Knowles didn’t have returning NFL caliber players his first season. Knowles defense didn’t get to rest knowing they had the best running back in the country to help burn clock. Knowles defense didn’t get to play the fourth easiest schedule out of all P5 teams. Knowles defense also didn’t give up 30+ to G5 teams.
You can ignore the statistics and ranking all you want. You’re the one that made the point you apply the same standard to each coach. When it’s obvious you don’t.
