‘I fully expect after the portal that we’ll have all three of these (quarterbacks) with us.’
Gonna piss a lot of people off if he goes with Rangel. I wish he’d transfer so Mike doesn’t have the option. Then it’s Milwaukee, Z-Flo, and Jett for QB1.
"Like every other position, experience and reps is something that we feel like you can’t really replace.”
Mike Gundy,
April 2, 2024
Imagine Rangel and Z-Flo and Milwaukee all transfer out….and Gundy can’t get a portal QB to commit….and we have 1 QB on roster. Jett Niu. Gundy with 1 QB on the roster… crying I’m laughing so hard!!!
“because there’s certain people at certain places that want to win, and they don’t care what it takes to win. They’re gonna do it.”
We pay Gundy nearly $8M/yr and our coordinators are in the top quartile. Does he not understand, that Stillwater is one of those “certain places that want to win”.
I said this to someone in X. I like to imagine what the donors and administration would think if this actually happened.
We’re going back to the good ole Bob Simmons days. Where Nathan Simmons up the gut would never go out of style. Every time I see Ollie being ran through a brick wall that image replays in my head.
“Well, I think all of it surprised me. Just because you don’t ever know, right? Until we put him out there and let him play. That position is just different until they get out there and they play a whole game and they feel like nobody’s looking over their shoulder and all those different things that you never know how they’re going to react. But I thought he had poise and played with confidence.” — Duh, like many of us have been saying when Bowman has been pooping in his own drawls, but too skurred to try anything till it’s too late.
And as far as this, ‘I fully expect after the portal that we’ll have all three of these (quarterbacks) with us.’, only if he gives up $100k each out of his own very inflated salary and gives it to those three. I bet Smith gets a much better offer after that one showing.
Where’d you get 7.75? 7.5 plus that annual retaining bonus of 1.5 = 8.5.
What’s your handle there, I might already be following you though.
We’re going back to the good ole Bob Simmons days. Where Nathan Simmons up the gut would never go out of style. Every time I see Ollie being ran through a brick wall that image replays in my head. — But I seriously doubt Nathan talked smack at defenders almost every play like Ollie. He does that in the NFL and he’s gonna get hurt…real. bad.
Then he’ll either learn from it the first time it happens. And keep his mouth shut. Or he won’t and he’ll be out of the league in 3 years due to injuries if it happens repeatedly.
Yep, always trying his best to make sure he can’t have any evidence being used against him. Like we’re stupid and don’t know how bad he is at choosing a QB .
He should let that decision be the O-coordinator and QB coach to decide cause he’s not good at it.
Have you seen our OC and QB coach actually coach? I’m not sure they’d be any better than Gundy at selecting a) the right guy and b) the right plays to use him.
At least with only one QB on roster in my diabolical plan, he couldn’t be wrong.
Er’body needs a boogieman. I guess you don’t think Mike Dumby doesn’t micromanage his coaches like Dunn and has the most imput of who’s QB1. It should be OBVIOUS to all based on what he has said over and over and over about the importance of experience and how freshmen QBs are not ready. Apparently that even includes a RS frosh like Flores. Proof is in the pudding as to what happened the last game. Best start by an oSu QB since Corndog was the starter.
Travis5266 for head coach, my man, hah hah.
If you think I’m defending Gundy, then you are mistaken. I’m firmly (and have been basically since Tyreek saved Gundy’s career 8 years ago) of the mind that Gundy isn’t the coach to carry us to the top of the mountain. The best thing for OSU is to give him a statue and a severance package. But I don’t think either of our coordinators are any good either, so just getting Gundy out of the way isn’t a solution to me.
I would agree. However, I don’t think OSU is ready to give Gundy a 25+ million severance package just yet. I think the best course of action currently would be to get rid of both Dunn and Nardo. Then force hires onto Gundy. If he doesn’t like it then Weiberg can tell him he’s free to retire at any time or “coach” until is contract expires.
My only concern is if you could find a proven coordinator(s) that would actually want to work with or around Gundy. I think Teatown is correct. Gundy micromanages which can be bad, but I think he’s micromanaging in the wrong areas. If someone thinks Bowman isn’t the best option then Gundy needs to let them make that call.
What gets me is how we were sitting at 3-6 and he says “I didn’t like the game plan”. Really? Your offense isn’t very good and your defense is atrocious. You’re about to be on the biggest losing streak in school history, and you’re not reviewing what your staff is doing from a tactical standpoint?
He’s been doing this for 30+ years. I don’t know how in the hell you can be in such a position and the thought never crosses your mind to review any game planning from these clowns. He acts like he still has Monken or Knowles on his staff or something.
And here’s my rub:
So TeaTown is saying that Gundy micromanages the coordinators. And yet, we also state that Gundy doesn’t even preview the gameplan until it doesn’t work on Saturdays. While I believe that both are likely true to a sense, I do think its the coordinators and not Gundy making the calls on Saturday, and frankly, they’ve sucked way more than they haven’t.
And I agree that due to the buyout Gundy ain’t going anywhere. But simply changing coordinators without changing Gundy is likely just prolonging the agony.
