On TEs in the passing game, Foster and a freshman.
Just for some context, Jelani Woods had 31 receptions for 361 yards and 4 TDS in 3 years for OSU. However, Woods transferred to Virginia for his last year and caught 44 passes for 598 yards and 8 TDS as a senior for the Cavaliers, or more stats in every category in one year than he had in 3 years at OSU. So to say he was under utilized is spot on. I believe his breakout senior year led him to being drafted in the 3rd Round of the NFL.
“Some had gripes that Jelani Woods wasn’t being used in the passing attack enough back in his day, ”
Because he wasn’t, and even Virginia made it obvious we don’t tailor strategy to player’s skills sets until it’s too late. For whatever reason it may be. We typically suffer an embarrassing game or moments until we figure out how flawed some of the things in our system might be. Stop playing mental gymnastics with the players and the fans. Let the players do what they do best. Stop trying to destroy, fix, or change something that’s not broken.
Leadi g into the combine he was not 3rd. The combine numbers what made him.
If he would have stayed he would have had a great year.
Still stone hands and bad blocker
This new te looks like a great reciever.
Well “stone hands” somehow managed to catch 44 passes for Virginia….
He had like 6 drop in one game. Even a blind dig can find a bone
Right, I was about to post something about that, glad you did. We’ve never used a TE or Cowboy Back like we should be doing. Woods was a walking mismatch in the red zone w/ his height and leaping ability. Severely under utilized, the guy was smart to go somewhere else, because now he’s in the NFL.
You guys reply to that genius?
Im glad he went to the nfl. Did he help us win 12 games. Oh thats rite he was busy winning 6 wins.
You guys kill me. Are we here to build stats for tight ends or win with recievers.
Woods caught a 16 yard TD on 4th and 1 vs Texas in a game OSU won 38-35. Why are you criticizing a player that helped OSU win? You say he had6 drops in one game, I watch every game and never witnessed that many drops by any Cowboy.
Brandon Pettigrew was the only TE I remember us using to his full potential in the last 20 years.
You’ll never convince him. Even when the facts stare him in the face he’ll find a way to deflect from the main point or blame the actual player for not getting the ball.
What does that have to do with his potential and possibly being underutilized? You know as well as I do that Virginia has way less talent than OSU. Yet, in some weird way, Virginia’s coaching staff took a dude we barely even gave the ball to and made him one of the best TE in college football that season. At least some of us can admit every now and then we were wrong, but you just can’t bring yourself to do it.
Look @bill18, im chris. I never said i didnt want woods. May comment was completely about the year he was gone.
@chris5 said pettigrew was the only one used like that. Why?
Alot of you guys seem to think you can evaluate players better then gundy, or gundy just doent care about winning.
Ii did say i think he would have had a better year then his others at osu if he stayed.
If a guy drops the ball 20% of the times do you put trust in him.
We stopped throwing fades to martin, because he was dropping open passes.
Stop say the year at Virginia made him one of the top te. It was his unreal number at the combine.
NFL teams/scouts can notice a player at the combine, but they also want game tape of players executing plays. The combine is also called the underwear Olympics because it doesn’t always translate to a viable prospect. Acting like his year at Virginia was just a waste of time is an error on your part.
Actually, I’m Chris.
You are Robert
Bill is Bill
Does that clarify?
I don’t know how anyone can say with a straight face that OSU properly used Jelani Woods. The staff whiffed on using him big time. Glad the guy made a decision that would get him paid cause this staff wouldn’t have gotten him to the NFL with his criminal misuse here.
No, you’re sitting here bashing a dude that almost everyone on here agrees was probably underused. If you wanted Woods you wouldn’t call him stone hands all the time. Why on earth would you want to keep a guy you claim can’t catch the ball? You’re contradicting yourself and don’t even know it. Your stupidity really knows no bounds.
