Word is that Dillon Gabriel did not like his draft grade and decided to pursue NIL money, which could by 1-2 Million. If OU is unwilling to pay top dollar, they will get passed by other schools that will.
Are you suggesting OSU should fire Hall of Famer John Smith?
First off, just want to say that technically you are correct on everything you said. To add to that, unless OU was in the playoff, this was always the planned exit for Gabriel. The plan had always been for him to exit and hand the keys over to Arnold after this season. Hes a really good player and its likely that the OU ceiling for 24ā is slightly lower now that hes gone. However, this was the plan all along. The player that is leaving that caught them offguard was Danny Stutsman. That one hurts more than Gabriel, simply due to it being a bit of a surprise.
As far as OU/NIL, your statement is a little misleading. OU isnt going to get into a bidding war for players like Oregon and a couple others, but they are definitely swimming in the NIL waters enough that they arent going to āget passed by other schoolsā. Also, OU doesnt sign recruits that are really, really heavy into the NIL during the recruiting process. A couple notable guys that they lost out on were Chris Mclellan from Owasso and DJ Hicks out of Katy TX. Both those guys were much needed DT recruits that OU lost out on due to not doing the NIL dance. Mclellan ended up at Florida and Hicks at A&M. Mclellan actually is going to portal and likely will end up at OU this time around. I think most programs are seeing that handing NIL stuff out to recruits to get them to sign a LOI isnt realy productive. All of that to say that OU doesnt have a roster of guys that are leaving/staying due to NIL stuff
Popped in to see if our Sooner Boi was dropping anything juicy. Nope. Same wha wha wha whonk that
OUās doing it all juuuussssst right, perfect balance, making best of it.
I can see why you donāt hang on Sooner boards. What a joke.
@ot1 āThe player that is leaving that caught them offguard was Danny Stutsman. That one hurts more than Gabriel, simply due to it being a bit of a surpriseā Man, reading and comprehension is really not your thing.
Im still waitingā¦
1: What has happened that has led you to question whether BV has lost control of the OU program?
2: What program did Yurcich build?
3: What makes you feel like heās better or more elite than Holgerson or Monken?
4: Have you figured out who the Cowboys do/do not play next year?
@ot1 Iāve got a paid subscription over on OUinsider. But too many homers over there. Youāre an idiot, but youāre not a homer. This site is pretty good, save for you & Robert.
GhostGnads love it.
Apparently you havenāt paid close enough attention to Rangel when he was on the field.
I agree, I donāt think heāll ever be āgoodā. Seems like a very nice young man though. I wonāt be surprised if he hits the portal.
@bill18 I must miss what youāre seeing. Heās made some plays, yeah. You act like heās gonna be another Corndog or Rudolph. I donāt see it.
How do we know when heās played against FCS competition, only because his size??? Not saying heās not legit, but thatās hardly a reason to think heāll be good at FBS levelā¦
That wonāt help our program. Need for him to go somewhere else so our young guys get a chance to develop. Bowman played well at times, but for a 5th year guy he makes goofy mistakes. And heās immobile, youāre not going to win a conference championship with a guy whoās THAT slow.
I agree. I would rather see Rangel start, but that doesnāt change that Bowman is looking to return.
Have you heard that heās dead set on returning? Mike could do the right thing and tell him, NO THANKS, but thanks for this season, right?
Wow, OSU really sucks in all sports. Jeffery, if I were you, I would just wash my hands of the whole thing and stop wasting my time posting about all the nonsense going on in the athletic department. This canāt be a productive use of your time. Right?
Why would Stutsman leaving OU catch them offguard? Heās likely an early day 2 draft pick (2nd rounder). And as a LB, he aināt making 7 figure NIL money. If Stutsmanās leaving caught OU offguard, then one would rightly question BVās situational awareness.
Good for you!
I just saw on this site a blurb that mentioned that Bowman, Deon Johnson and some one else were considering petitioning the NCAA for another year. I have not heard anymore then that one time. I would love to have Deon Johnson back. He can play.
Iāve heard off another board Bowman has submitted his petition and will take 14 days. But it seems likely.
LJ3 all along planned on petitioning. Bummer is he play pingpong or baseball during a year, which might screw up the grant.
All they remember is Rangel didnāt āsaveā the team last season. Spencer couldnāt keep from getting beaten up behind or OLine, so out trots the true freshman. Ignore fundamentals - pocket presence, in-stride accuracy, beautiful deep balls, soft shallow balls in stride - and focus on him sliding instead of taking hits. What a poosay right? Or the fact that, unknown to fans, he was the only healthy QB on the roster. Gunnar had to have shoulder surgery. Spencer was all messed up - both physically and off-field.
No one that claims Rangel isnāt good enough has actually graded his tape.
This seems silly to me. Then again Iām stupid sometimes maybe more than sometimes. Now if Gabriel ends up at Mississippi State the another reason is up for speculation.
