Gundy has an 11 year head start on Matt at a P4 program that’s historically better than Iowa State, and Matt doesn’t have any billionaire donors. So the fact that Matt has been able to play for a conference title twice (like Gundy) and win an NY6 bowl (like Gundy) in recent years is kind of impressive. Not to mention Matt’s worst record at Iowa State was 4-8 and he’s never went winless in the conference. Gundy went 3-9 AND winless in the conference.

Did Gundy own the results though? Gundy took some ownership once the season was over, but one could argue it was only because his job was suddenly in jeopardy. He didn’t once own the results of any of the beatdowns when they occurred. Only after the BoR got involved did you see movement with the firing of coaches. And while Gundy has since “said” the right things, I’m not sure that his hires, to this point, look like we’re aiming for the best candidates, but rather the kind of guys who’s marketplace demand doesn’t put OSU at much risk for needing replacements next year.

I actually like some of the assistant coaching hires. It will depend on how much NIL money is there and who we can get. I myself tend to let’s see what happens instead of bashing every hire

And? There’s been coaches that have taken Baylor and K State to points they’ve never been. Matt Campbell has taken Iowa State to points they’ve never been. You act like it would be impossible to find such a coach when it’s already been proven they exist.

Gary Patterson was considered a good coach as well until he started posting 4-8 records. What you don’t seem to realize is most people don’t care too much about the past Liberty and Texas bowls you’ve won. They want to know which direction you plan on going. In this case, we don’t have a clue with the narcissist we have in control of the football program right now.
