Transfer Portal Tracker 2024: Who’s Coming and Who’s Going for Oklahoma State Football

You bring a lot of irrelevant chit Joe You might try answering questions instead of answering with a question

For the last time this is what Gundy is getting the chance to do. I’ve told you if he doesn’t fix it he will be fired. Don’t ask stupid chit again

Yep, just like they fixed our running woes through the first six games of the season :+1:.

Mentally off aren’t you

How the hell are we supposed to compete for a conference title if we’re losing people to Houston and Kansas?

You are not going to get every recruit. There could also be an issue with what they are demanding or other reasons they go there. Houston and Kansas aren’t terrible like they used to be. They are getting better just like we did in facilities, coaching, etc. I bet that even the years we did well we lost recruits to same kind of teams. You can’t get them all. Especially with reduced numbers

Noone expects to get them all. But I do expect that we get enough of them that our class is better than 60th. As for the portal, we’ve actually gotten a few guys who have nice offer sheets which would indicate that they should be able to be competitive in our conference. But we’ve also offered a number of guys who simply don’t move the needle, and would have to play significantly above their projection to be more than just roster fodder. Odds are that one or two of those guys will. And the rest won’t, and we’ll find ourselves perilously thin or simply too under-talented to compete for our conference.

Gundy is doing just enough to get to that sixth win and be eligible for a bowl game. That’s what it’s looking like at least. Because he knows that’s what will win over “fans” of the program. Still keeping them dumb enough to be believe it’s a great accomplishment that he should get paid 7 or 8 mil a year to do :man_shrugging:.

If I’m not mistaken, about three years ago PFB put out an article about OSU establishing itself as the “top” program it could be in the Big 12. What the PFB staff forgot was that Gundy is not a guy that prioritizes winning the conference. In fact, I would bet it’s not even one of his top 10 when it comes where he thinks the program should be. Gundy’s definition of success is what he’s allowed to get away with, and people are too naive to see it.

His OC and DC hirings for me seem dull, but I will say his hiring of other assistants seems to be solid. It’s not great nor bad. It evens out to be average imo. People keep ignoring me when I say he’s only as good as the assistants and players he has. What he’s hoping is to hit on maybe 2-3 of these portal guys to be good and then the rest to pretty much be a body on the field. The days of being able to hold onto a player for two years while developing him through strength, conditioning, and basic fundamentals is gone. Something Gundy can’t seem to quite wrap his head around.

I agree that if Gundy doesn’t fix things, he will be fired. The question is whether the damage is already done? We may have 5 more years before the next round of conference consolidation, and there is zero guarantees that the Big 12 will be a power conference when that happens. If its not, and OSU is still floundering, OSU will end up EXACTLY like the other Orange and Black OSU that resides in the pacific NW. And the hit that the athletic budget will take will be a heck of a lot more than Gundy’s $25M buyout.

This is the scariest thought of all to me. That’s why this year was SUCH a big deal. Catastrophic disaster of a season.

If you hit the right hire you can turn around a program inn1-2 years with the right players. Arizona St was picked last or ext to last in conference preseason. Revenue sharing will help with the portal but the BB still have that extra to give. I’ve always said Gundy doesn’t recruit well. The diamond in the rough isn’t happening much anymore. Kids aren’t staying the full 4-5 years. I detest the portal, they could stop a lot of it if they had to sit a year after transferring. It’s all Gundys now, he either sinks or swims

  • Oklahoma State was 68th in the portal last season (just above James Madison). ASU was ranked 30th.

  • OSU signed 8 players in the portal last season. ASU signed 27 players.

  • OSU signed no 4 stars out of the portal. ASU signed 2. Even Kansas was able to sign one 4 star.

  • OSU signed 5 players from a P4 school. ASU signed 22 of them (some of them from BB schools).

I don’t know how Gundy’s hires are going to work out, but I’m just curious how we plan on winning the conference with players from Piss State or Elope U? When ASU had just proven getting P4 players from the portal is part of the reason they won the conference. You just said if you get the “right players”. How is signing people from 3-9 or 4-8 FCS and G5 schools going to get us there?

I’m sure that maybe 2 or 3 of them might be better than expected. My concern is it going to be enough to win the conference? It literally looks like we’re putting a roster and staff together for bowl eligible purposes only. If we couldn’t win a single conference game returning the most starters in the conference this past season. Then what in the hell makes you think we’ll even be close with recruiting like that?

I’ll say it again for the millionth time. Gundy is only as good as the assistants and players he has. If that weren’t true, then he would have more than one conference title in 20 years. You’re brought up ASU. They didn’t hire demoted coordinators or sign a bunch of FCS players in their journey to winning the conference.

I’m sure anything better than 3-9 will be considered improvement and they will give Gundy more time. Arizona State went from 3-9 to winning the conference but OSU expectations have always been to make a bowl. Well except for this year when̈ we went from very low expectations to excuses. But let’s give him time to get us back to our very low expectations.
Chad Ŵeiberg I would like to see any sign that OSU is interested in try to win the conference in football or basketball.

By the way, I’m tired of hearing about blue blood recruiting. It is irrelevant in regards to OSU as there are exactly ZERO blue bloods in the Big 12. My expectation of Gundy isn’t to out-recruit LSU. My expectation is to out-recruit Texas Tech, Arizona, and the like.

Yes, you can. You have to fire your head coach first though for that turn around to happen. And who’s to say we have 2 more years? When FSU joins the SEC, and we all know that that day is coming, the game of musical chairs will come to a stop, and our brand and product better be worthy of getting an invite to the adult table.

I’d say if were aren’t going to do that. Then it would be best to just join Conference USA, try to go 13-0, and hope you get an invite to the CFP :man_shrugging:.

That’s because Bill is negative Nancy, thinking OkState can pull in any recruit or portal player it wants. Even though Gundy’s one of the winningest active coaches in the game and literally put OkState on the map, he’s still not good enough for Bill. FSU 2024 sinks Bill’s narrative re: high end portal players and Texas pre-Sark sinks Bill’s narrative re: hiring the best coordinator or young coach to lead a winning program.

They may not out recruit the two teams you mentioned, but they put up better records in recent times than those two…….

2024 FSU disagrees with you.

If you’re truly a top 25 program you should be able to pull some of these second string guys from other P4 schools. In which OSU only pulled 5 last season while Arizona State pulled in 22 :man_shrugging:.

You can talk about FSU all you want. The fact still remains that Dillingham was still good enough to take a team like ASU and win the conference in his second year as a HC. The fact also remains that the best coach in school history went 0-9 in a conference with no BB schools while returning the most production in the conference :man_shrugging:.
