Which are early season aberrations, and which will prove to be ongoing trends?
Unfortunately, I don’t see any of those issues improving much with Dunn and Nardo in charge. Dunn’s been the OC now for five years, and every year it’s the same, head-scratching stuff. He’s incapable of figuring it out on his own and in any sustained way. His schemes and play calling are trash. Our defense under Nardo reminds me of the Bill Clay and Glenn Spencer days. Get gashed all day and just hope for TO’s.

Your right. The warts will only go away if you fire them. Gundy will never fire Dunn. Gundy’s at the end of his career and he’s in no way going to start over with a new OC. I expect he retires after this class graduates. About 8 years too late. Coach Gundy every year will get man handled in one or two games starting from last year till he retires. He’s just too old with no fire. Put him out and watch it smoke to a new era of cowboy football!!! Can’t wait.

Run blocking by O-line and defense is below average. Better get it fixed and soon, Utah, after Tulsa…

It goes back to what I was saying in an earlier post. We no longer go after assistant coaches who are the most qualified. We go after the ones that will stay the longest. Our DC is from Gannon, our OC is a WR coach, and our DL coach is from Indiana. Our OL coach is going into his 6th year and has had two offensive lines above average to date. Nobody is coming to get him either. Not sure how people haven’t noticed this.

Gundy is a good coach. I do not think that another coach would have had as many winning seasons. He gets the most out of 3 star recruits. The issue is OSU has trouble recruiting 4 star players. They dont want to come to Stillwater. They do want to go to Norman though. We will never be able to compete with the top teams in the SEC and Big 10. And now with NIL and the transfer portal, it is only going to get worse for OSU. We will develop players and they will leave.

I agree Gundy is a good coach and we could not have done better with anyone else over the last 17 years. He does make some head scratching decisions related to assistant coaches. Also, did not enjoy the 3QB rotation early last year. However, he wins games with 3 star recruits and that is what we can attract and afford. Some of the guys on here do not understand that.

Well……first off he’s in his 20th season. You’re telling me a coach wouldn’t have been able to win a second conference title in 20 years? Especially with Texas sucking most of Gundy’s career? We have coaches in the conference right now that have won at least one within the first 5 years of their HC career at the D1 level so far. Those same coaches suck according to Michael and Robert.
Everyone told him last season to not do the rotations against South Bama and he did it anyway. What we know is that unless Gundy banks on an excellent assistant coach (Monken or Knowles) he’s not going any further than possibly 10 wins and a Texas bowl or whatever 40+ bowl games are out there. Thats been evident without Monken and Knowles.
You think Rhule or Aranda had an abundance of four star recruits? Or Klieman? What about before NIL? NIL didn’t start until 2021. That’s a full 15-16 years after Gundy became the HC at OSU. We did more in terms of conference titles and NY6 bowls in the first 7 years of Gundy’s career than we have in the past 13. Tell me what’s changed since then with the exception of NIL which has been most recent?
One major change I can tell you is that we’ve went from hiring proven coordinators to coordinators we know nothing about. Even then, they’re still here 5-6 years later without improving anything (Dickey and Dunn). Dunn has struggled most of his career having a top 40 offense while Dickey has only produced a couple of lines that would be consider above average in his sixth year so far.
That’s one huge reason we can’t win anything with real significance. Gundy’s good to the extent if you want to make a bowl game. With 8-9 wins and possibly a lucky 10th win here or there. Not sure about you. I’ve seen enough bowl eligibility for 20+ years now. I’m ready to see us take it a step further.

Editorial comment: the new OSU-branded Nike Pegasus 41 shoes are weak. First time in five years I didn’t purchase. But the shoes the coaches are wearing here are sweet. Where can I get those?
We could never really get past OU. They get 4 and 5 star recruits. Thats why OSU does not have more conference titles. Look at the SEC. How come Mississippi cant win? Well, they could not get past Alabama or LSU.
It is all about talent and QB play.

Then why keep running Ollie into the heart of the DL when we can’t block them? How 'bout spreading them out so he’s got some running lanes. He’s getting paid to figure this stuff out.

Don’t worry. I’m sure he’ll get it figured out in overtime in the next game. Who else would’ve figured out through four quarters of football that pitching the ball to the outside, and giving the best runner in the nation some space would’ve worked? Certainly nobody that makes less than a million dollars would’ve thought of that 
.

I’m not sure those two offensive lines were above average. The new DL coach thus far has been a BU$T! I didn’t like the move cause Richmond was doing a good job!

Gundy has done a good job, but he wouldn’t have had half the success w/out T. Boone’s ca$h. Probably his best move ever was getting Rob Glass to leave Florida to come back to Stilly. That’s reason #1 why a lot of those 3s have turned into 4s and not to give him all the credit, those guys worked their tails off to get bigger, faster, stronger. Gundy is not the greatest recruiter which is why we only get 1~3 fours every year. You’re right about the last part, gonna be even more difficult to get the 4s now and to keep them, esp if they play well and live up the hype of being a 4!
