There’s going to be nothing worse than whiffing on a 4 star player in college ball. You convinced some booster to cough up six figures and then you want to bench them? Waste of resources and you’ve damaged a donor relationship. You’re almost stuck just playing them.

While you are correct about OSU’s lack of 4-5 stars over the years the reasons are complicated, you make it sound so simple and it’s not. Also there has always been money involved in getting recruits the only difference now it’s front and center and everyone can hand out as much money as they want. Gundy the other day mentioned a recruit wanting 300K just to do an official visit. I’m glad OSU is turning those type of dudes down for a lot of reasons.

Problem now is the big NIL teams can convince a kid with money. I’m confident Gundy can find kids in the portal every year that will shine. Last two years we got Leon and this year the kid from Nardos old school that are good players from D3 schools
So you don’t think Saban would’ve been able to swing at least two conference titles in 20 years? Especially if Texas had sucked for a majority of his time in Stillwater? OSU has never really had much recruiting success with 4 star recruits dating back to when I was at OSU FROM 76 to 81. It is not Gundy’s fault. Who wants to go to school in the middle of no where. Its not like Stillwater is this great place. Also, who would rather go to OSU than OU? Not very many.
And Gundy is not Barry Switzer who did not care about a players character.
Kansas State won three conference titles within 20 years. They’re in the middle of nowhere and they don’t get 4 star recruits. In fact, on average they recruit worse than OSU. I know what you’re going to say “what about winning consistency???”.
I’m pointing to the fact they were good enough from 2003-2022 to win the conference three times. They’re in the same situation if not worse. Gundy is going into year 20 with one conference title. Why do we keep making excuses when other programs have been in our same situation or worse?
Nobody has ever been able to give a reasonable explanation for any of this. It’s just excuse after excuse every single year. You guys don’t want me to compare us to another compatible program because it becomes a thorn in the side of the average OSU fan.
