Looks like we will continue to be irrelevant in wrestling. Last year was terrible. Looks like more of the same.
This kid had the potential to be one of the all time great wrestlers at OSU. This shows us the trouble that oversized ego can cause for any of us.
This is a devastating loss of someone who cannot be replaced. My sympathy goes out to John Smith and the team. The wrestling team has seen more than its share of bad luck recently. Once again, without counting bonus points, this is a loss of 25 points at the NCAA tournament. Looks like they might have to call upon Haas, not sure of the correct spelling. Move Surber back to his natural weight?

We’ve been down this ‘next man up’ road. It has generally equated to lesser talented athletes, thus more beat downs. So hope you’re ok with more losses in a sport that we used to compete for titles.
I’m not okay w/ it. But…until John Smith retires, which I’ve talked about before, we have status quo. Current status quo is 16 years since our last Natty in wrestling. Cowboy wrestling is the equivalent of Goon football.

Wow he’s an 18 year old kid. Kid’s make mistakes. We don’t know the circumstances to the assault charge. I get it …he messed up but I’d wait to hear all the circumstances before I fed him to the wolves. I’ve seen 3 different charges like these that the girl ended up admitting she lied… I’m just saying if there’s a chance to help the kid that’s a better choice not to mention that he and his brothers make up 25% of an entire team… Wow…

Let’s hope he learns from his mistake. Played two sports at OSU and I had a lot of support. Let’s hope he gets the same and treat this as a learning experience.

Who would you rather have coach OSU than John Smith?
He recruits the same guys that the other top teams go after, but most of them no longer want to wrestle for OSU. OSU lost it’s place at the top when a better coach came along, Dan Gable. Then Gable left and John Smith rattled off a nice string of NCAA titles until Cael Sanderson left the Big 12 in favor of PSU. He is a better coach than John Smith and he has a more talented rich state to recruit from. I think John Smith is one of the best college wrestling coaches, but not THE best. So we no longer are getting enough top guys in the nation to come to OSU. We might have one on the roster each year, but as PSU and Iowa have shown, that is not enough to win it all. I don’t see championship in sight for the near future. Our recruits are just not that good enough to topple PSU. I don’t blame John Smith for that, I blame Cale Sanderson.
