Why I'm Alright with This Quarterback Battle Taking Time to Work Out

The very definition of the butterfly effect.

OSU fans who want to gripe about Baker Mayfield beating us need to remember Blake Bell did too.

Yeah that was the last pass of Blake Bells career.

You can’t deny what’s evident chump. Keep making those excuses though :+1:.

That’s what makes it even more embarrassing for Gundy.

Losing to OU is not an “embarrassing” thing for any Big 12 team not named Texas. OU ran that Conf. I get the people who want more from Gundy and the program. I also get the people who are loyal defenders of his. I think the truth on what Gundy is lies somewhere in the middle

Losing to a 3rd string QB-turned-TE at home in Bedlam during one of the few times in history that you’re favored…by 10 points…with a Big 12 title on the line…..IS embarrassing. Whether it’s a loss to OU, Texas, Bama, Georgia, LSU, USC, Oregon, Penn State….doesnt matter. With what was at stake, and the most important position on the field being in OSU’s favor at home….it was embarrassing.

I cant argue how you feel on it. To me, I look at OU-TX in the way that it sounds like you look at Bedlam. I have zero expectations of winning or losing that one each year. Who knows whats going to happen. But I get it

I think you need to look closely at that specific game. You guys were literally starting a third string QB against the second best defense Gundy ever had. OSU had no business losing that game. The difference is Gundy played not to lose. While Stoops played to win. Which is why Gundy still hasn’t won the conference since 2011.

“…literally starting a third string QB” No, thats not true. Trevor Knight played the entire 1st half. Kendal Thompson played the 3rd qtr and was ineffective. They brought Blake Bell in for basically the entire 4th qtr. “OSU had no business losing that game” OU came into that game 9-2, had won on the road @KStateKStateKStateKState the week before and would beat Bama later in the Sugar Bowl. To say OSU had “no business losing that game” to an OU team that finished #6 in the country is a little much. Gundy also went for it on 4th and Goal in the first half, instead of opting for the FG. OSU scored a TD to go ahead with 1:46 left in the game. Im not sure how you can say Gundy played to lose in the final drive. That was just a case of Blake Bell playing out of his a** for a drive.

Bell wasn’t starting but he was a 3rd string qb. We had already beaten K State and Baylor the week before and Texas at Texas. We went into that game 10 -1, we were ranked 6th y’all were ranked 18th. You are down to a qb who mainly had to run the ball and Gundy’s got his best defense of his career at that point.

But that’s Gundy’s history, when everything is on the line, he sh!ts the bed.

Hey champ,

You can’t project anything from a half of football. That’s like drawing a line from one point. So ridiculous you keep pointing to that.

Well, and Gilbert uncharacteristically dropping a game-winning INT.

OU lost 36-20 to Texas, and 41-13 to Baylor. That same year OSU pounded those teams 49-24 and 38-13. There was a reason OSU was favored by 10 points, and it wasn’t because people thought OU was the better team. How about this? Gundy had an OU problem? Just like he seems to have a Baylor problem now. I also never said Gundy played to lose the final drive. He essentially did it for the entire game. Just because you go for it on 4th down once the entire game doesn’t mean there weren’t other areas in the game where he pissed down his leg.

Yet you guys have no issue pointing to Bowman’s once great game he played against OU in 2023. While ignoring the rest of the time when he was extremely average or totally sucked balls. The difference with the BYU game is we could actually run the football. Tell me a time before that game in 2024 where we did?

You said OU was “literally starting a 3rd string QB”. That was wrong.

“Gundy had an OU problem”. No argument here. So did Texas. So did Mike Leach. So did Mizzou and Gary Pinkel. So did Chase Daniel. So did Colorado. OU dominated the Big 12 Conf. Who the hell didnt have an OU problem at some point?

I admit that I dont see all of your posts. But I see enough to know that you are trying to be one of those guys. Just argue to argue. See, these forums arent near as fun when you act like a woman who refuses to admit when she gets something wrong. You hate Gundy. We get it. But youre dangerously coming close to being unreadable like @robert28 was.

I admit that I dont recall every play or instance. But I also dont recall sitting there thinking it was somehow poor coaching by OSU. I wont deny that it did seem that way at certain times during Bedlam. But this was not one of them.

He wasn’t your starter, and Kendal Thompson was listed as 2nd on the 2013 depth chart. So what exactly does that make Blake Bell then?

Mike Leach actually beat OU more times before getting canned from Tech than Gundy could. So yes, Gundy had an even bigger OU problem :+1:.

Huh?? You said OU was “LITERALLY starting a 3rd string QB”. Thats wrong. Trevor Knight was the starter. He played the entire first half. Blake Bell played 1 qtr as the QB. Either you dont know what “literally” means or you dont have your facts straight.

I agreed with you saying Gundy had an OU problem. I added that so did everybody else in the league. Would you agree with that? Leach went 3-7 against OU. Is it fair to say he also had an OU problem? The biggest game was in 08’ when a trip to the Big 12 Title and potential Nat Champ game was on the line. They lost by 44 pts. You say losing at home by 9 was embarassing for Gundy. Would you say that losing by 44 when youre the #2 ranked team in the country is embarassing?

I’m not a Tech fan, but I was embarrassed for them. And angry. But I had a bad feeling after the 1st quarter that OU was going to avalanche Tech. That atmosphere that night in Norman was off the charts. The famous “Jump Around” game, I think. 65-21 final. Gross for Tech.
