Why I'm Alright with This Quarterback Battle Taking Time to Work Out

And doing so with the 3rd most veteran-laden, experienced team in D1 CFB. Embarrassing.

Someday there will be a post-Gundy era and history is heavily laden with programs going south off the rails when they transition to a new HC. So anyone who cares about OSU sports should be concerned.

I just wish the goal was winning the conference. Obviously that has not been the goal ever. But I’d rather not have football if the goal is a Cheez it bowl appearance.

Yeah. Sometimes it works out. I think the successful transitions make people forget how often it doesn’t work out, and when that immediate hire isn’t good, it tends to spiral through two, three, four hires until you’re in a 10-20 year spiral (Texas after Mack, Nebraska after Pellini, Kansas after Mangino, A&M after Sumlin, OU after Switzer, Texas Tech after Leach). My ideal situation would be we bounce back, we steady the ship under Gundy for a few years, get a coach-in-waiting ready and move to whomever… Zac Robinson, Meacham, whoever. Weiberg hired a great wrestling coach, it gives me hope he could land us a great football coach when the time comes, but football is much more competitive.

Says the guy who was okay with Gundy going 13+ years without winning the conference. To now saying he needs to win it again with the next 3 years :man_shrugging:. Do you ever stay consistent?

My ideal situation is to hire a HC that’ll actually hire (or bring with him) assistants that know what they’re doing consistently. A HC that actually doesn’t talk trash to his supporting fanbase after he finishes with 7-6 and 3-9 seasons. A HC that’ll be consistent in trying to win the conference, and not complacent because his administration allows him to be.

A HC that won’t fire a coach that’s sent people to the NFL, and bring in a coach that’s gave us probably our worst DL in school history. A HC that’s humble and shows humility. Rather than pride, ego, and stubbornness in which he’s too ignorant to realize is detrimental to himself.

A HC thats young and not nearly 60 years old. A HC that’s willing to learn from others than to think he knows best. A HC that will require the same amount of discipline, effort, and commitment from his coaches that he expects from his players. A HC that will not become a payroll bandit after one good season. A HC that desires to be the next Kenny Dillingham type of coach, and not the latter Gary Patterson.

Mack Brown left Texas after firing assistants from Texas. Just because a new slew of assistants are in Stillwater doesn’t mean that the main problem has been solved.

Yes that would be a good plan and Weiberg has shown the ability to find a good coach so that is something in our favor. As for Meacham being the successor I’m a bit skeptical due to his age. I think he is 60 or so.

And yet you keep bringing OU up. They’re not in the conference anymore. They’re meaningless. Time to move on.

My ideal situation is that you move out of your mom’s basement and get a real haircut.

You’re right. Maybe we should start figuring out how we’re going to win a conference game now since that seems to be the new problem :+1:. We can’t complain about OU being the problem for us not being able to win the conference any longer.
