Why I'm Alright with This Quarterback Battle Taking Time to Work Out

Let me see if I can boil it down to one sentence: In years when Oklahoma State was better than Iowa State or Baylor or Kansas State and beat those teams, those same teams were finding ways to beat OU whereas OSU couldn’t. I understand that OU ran the conference and nobody had a winning record against them. Wanting Gundy fired isn’t only about his Bedlam record, but it’s on the list of reasons. Hopefully, that’s a calm, rational, “non-trolling” answer. :joy:

I will add though that with Bedlam football off the schedule for the foreseeable future (hopefully forever), it becomes less of a focal point for wanting Gundy gone.

Well, you made a good effort

Thanks. :joy: I typed the one sentence…then just kept going.

Well said, and I largely agree. But is it also fair to say that beating OU more often would have been representative of an even better team that is able to produce even better records more consistently and compete more often in high profile bowl games?

Beating OU at the same level or better than those other teams? Is that ignorant when everyone on here claims we were better than them? I’m not claiming we should have beaten OU at the level Bob Simmons did because OU was better the last 19 years. What should’ve been acceptable 0 wins? I realize as an OU fan, that’s what you expect. Heck even Kansas has beaten OU during that time. I guess I’ll just be ignorant for wanting to be in the top half of the conference that beats OU. I guess I’ll also be ignorant for wanting more big 12 titles than Texas A&M Colorado and Arizona State.

Solid response. I get it

Youre putting words in my mouth. I never mentioned anything about the top half of the conference, 0 wins, or expecting OU to win every Bedlam. Bob Stoops lost more Bedlams than any OU coach since WWII. Does that mean he shouldve been fired? No. I have never come on here saying people wanting Gundy gone are stupid. Or wanting better for your program are stupid. But the people that rant about his Bedlam record are insane to me. Gundy losing to OU too much during a time in which they dominated the Conf is asinine to me. Its not to you. Fair enough

I love seeing a third party come in here and tell bill he’s a dumbass troll. If I could turn it a cologne, I’d wear too much of it.

Listen, these forums are a good time. Good form of entertainment and a way to pass some time. But, you have to be willing to say when youre wrong or entertain the ideas of what the other side is bringing….or else it turns into two women of Facebook. Opinions are one thing. But when you state something as fact and its wrong…you cant just pivot to something else. That dude is one of the idiots who kills these things.

If the top reason why you fire someone at Auburn is because you couldnt beat Saban and Bama enough….youre an idiot. If you fire someone at UCLA because they couldnt beat Carroll and USC enough…youre an idiot. If you fire an OSU coach because he didnt beat Stoops/Riley and OU enough…..then youre an idiot.

This is his favorite tactic, yes. He thinks he’s being clever, but it’s transparent. What’s worse is that he has fanboys.

In that same 19 years Auburn beat Alabama 7 times. I wouldn’t be mentioning Ou if we won 7 out of 19.

@ar1 Bob Stoops lost more Bedlams than any OU football coach. Should he have been fired? Bob Simmons was pretty good in Bedlam. Should they have kept him? By your logic If you get fired for not beating OU enough….shouldnt you be retained if you do?

Such a crazy thought to get fired for not winning. Again you come with the thought that we shouldn’t win as much as K State Baylor and Texas Tech.

I’m trying to just point out the facts to you. It’s not my fault if you don’t like them :man_shrugging:.

Which nobody ever made this claim. This is nothing more than an assumption. I don’t care if he doesn’t beat OU “enough”. He just can’t beat them even when he’s favored (1-3). That’s an issue. Also, the other issues such as losing to teams you used to beat in the regular. Not to mention the infamous 33-7 shellacking we took from an average Sunbelt team that was played over and over again on national television for everyone to see :man_shrugging:. Then people wonder why we don’t get picked to win the conference.

Bob Stoops was winning the conference and largely beating the teams he should’ve beaten. Gundy has taken us down a road where we’re getting hammered at home to Sunbelt teams, and losing by 20+ at home to teams like WV. Given OSU’s history I would say if he was 7-12 against OU and won the conference 3-4 times in his career he wouldn’t take such a beating.

However, that didn’t happen and it’s not happening now. I don’t want to return back to the Bob Simmons years. That’s what you’ll get with current Gundy. He’l destroy the program on his way out and be known as Gary Patterson. Which is exactly why the BoR forced his hand.

You do know that firing a future hall of fame coach with a stellar record over decades after 1-2 poor seasons is going to close the door with probably any good coach we would want to hire. Coaches worth their salt aren’t going to come to OSU because they aren’t going to put up with a school that deals in that kind of nonsense especially one who isn’t a blue blood. Edit: guess I should add that I’m not saying we won’t be able to hire a coach. There are coaches out there that will take our money with the risk of being fired a couple of years later. We just won’t get the coaches we would really like to have. IMO.

That’s the biggest bunch of bull ever written. Name a school that has fired a coach and now can’t hire one.

There is a portion of the fanbase that’s terrified of the unknown “post-Gundy era”. Those folks are very lucky I am not a major donor, the AD, or on the BOR. The “post-Gundy era” would have begun as soon as Colorado finished kicking us in the nuts, 52-0.

Nothing quite like closing out your 20th anniversary with the worst shutout you’ve ever experienced :+1:.
