I like your optimism. I hope you are right. Maybe the MSU kid will be the next Jalen Warren, and if he is, maybe Gundy will know what he’s got before the season’s half over. We don’t have a strong history with WR transfers in year 1, so would probably tap the breaks on the breakout there. I like our QB. If he plays like the kid who smoked us both times he played us, then he’ll be a solid player. But he’s not mobile and our O-line doesn’t have a strong track record. Our best offense last year was Sanders improvising, and we no longer have that in our repertoire.
In the end my personal pessimism can be summed up as this: In a league of toss-ups, how many games do you think Gundy and this staff can out-coach their opponents?
Yea i think you missed some of my points. When i said freshman i was talking about bowman and his freshman year was as good as sanders. Sanders won as mean games as he lost, we cant say that is trashing him. I wasnt trash ford by saying he has played alot, he hasnt.
Things i said about freshman or at least 3rd teamers is well known. They are 3rd teams for various reason.
On woods it was a lot of reason. On Gundy’s team if a rb fumbles you may not see him for a while. Martin kept dropping undefended fades in the endzone, we never saw that again. Woods had issues with block, so he could not be out there as much as he should have been. Ive seen sanders over look wide wide open woods. With his drops that didnt help. I still think he would have main it big his last year with logan and alot of recievers gone in 2021.
As for freshman recievers, this year, i didnt know we have any in the 2 deep. So im lost on that one.
One deal different with knowless first year, 10 starters will have played for 3 years be it juniors redshirt sophomore or higher. Kickland being the only sophomore at 23. How different is the safeties be in the new d. We went and got 2 players that both have play 4 years in the 3 3 5.
Predictions well just going on us being 7th should mean 10 and 2. Since only 2 teams are in the predicted upper half. I would like to wait for after fall to do a good prediction. But, i have a hard time with houston. Byu being a home game.
Not about prediction but just rating ksu and ou. Ksu lost 3 true play makers. They will or should have a wonderful running game. Deuce was a great get out of jail guy. Knowls was top reciever and kick off. They lost punter and kicker.
The d is replace felix with duke. Stay healthy duke will not match felix pressure. Lost 4 of 5 db. Over be good but not last year good.
Ou has like easy schedule and have to wait and see if they hit gold on portal. Will these players learn the defense. Will Gabriel stay healthy. Is their position players any good. Lost alot of young in portal do they have depth.
If everyone stays healthy I think this is an 8-5 season. I think we lose at Tech and Texas. We’ll lose to OU. Then we’ll probably lose one to TCU, K State, Houston, or Baylor possibly. Then I think we’ll probably lose our bowl game.
Not sure I agree that Bowman as a freshman was better than Sanders was last year. You have to be careful just comparing stats between a QB in the Tech Air Raid and the OSU offense. I like Bowman, and I hope he’s great. But I watched our play calling last year, and I watched Kasey Dunn run a statue of a QB (Rangel) on multiple occasions simply because that’s what our offense does.
As for Woods, he’s not an outlier. We’ve talked about the Cowboy back for years, and every year, our TE position is a dud. It hasn’t been used properly at OSU since Bajema was playing. So I’ll believe that Gundy and our Offensive staff will use the TE advantage when they have it, when I see it. History simply tells another story.
I agree KSU lost a lot. I don’t think they are in the conference title game this year. But they are much better coached than we are and that matters.
OU had serious challenges due to their QB play last year, but that was driven by the late exit of their HC and portal exodus that followed. The talent they brought into the system last year via the portal will be better this year (year 2), Kind of how I feel about our team. We saw an exodus in the portal this year. We brought in a bunch of portal kids to fill those gaps, but its hard to have that much turnover and sustain success. The guys we brought in this year will be better for us in the future, but I don’t put a lot of stock in them in year 1, as that’s what the stats show.
As for Houston, its probably the one toss-up where I think we have the better coach. Holgy is a mediocre head coach (great OC). BYU in week 12 of the season scares me. They have a roster of 24 year olds, whereas by week 12 we’re playing 3rd stringers (as your reference) which are 18 year old freshmen. I’d have liked the BYU game earlier in the season.
It does all comes down to if we are healthy. We have had at least one starter not start.
We did use the cowboy back with sexton and blake.
Its had to get alot of pass to players with recievers and rb.
Its hard to predict until fall ends.
From what i hear from spring the players we got have done well. The only spot is cb. One guy we got is being moved to safety. The other im not sure he was here.
The only new reciever is questionable is the d3 kid. They are going to try to get him a red shirt year.
Tay backed up Tylon his first year, he may have redshirted, not sure about that but he didn’t play but 4 games and the bowl. Other than him, he’s the only receiver I remember coming in with expectations. Johnson was great but was a soph
True, but there were multiple statements by both Tay and Gundy about how hard it was for Tay to transition from WSU’s Air Raid to our offense. And both talked about the struggles they faced in year one. I’m not writing off these kids as never contributing for OSU. I’m just tempering my expectations of these transfers in year 1, based on historical precedent.
Guess we will see the receiver from Tay’s alma mater what he can do. He’s had a good season last year. Almost a thousand yard receiver, Bruce from Iowa looks good on paper , was a 4 star for you star believers. Can play slot, return punts and kickoffs Played a little of it all
I’m just saying if you are a player you’ll play
Martin never was exceptional. He drop wide open fades.
If you noticed we stopped throwing them.
Martin was said to not be in shape when he got here by gundy. The wsu kid is going to start. The iowa kid will back up 80. The fox kid is a question, they are trying to get him a red shirt.
I’m right there with you at 10-2 (KState, OU) to 8-4 (BYU, KU) but personally signed up for a bunch of 6.5 Over. Anyone in our QB room can lead us to the Over.
