They played (23)Tennessee in 2015 who was supposed to be good. Started out ranked, they beat Georgia when Georgia was ranked (19) and lost to (8) Alabama 14-19.
We could play that game all day long. Tulsa ended up actually being good this year. Pitt was good in 2016, went 8-4 and beat Clemson. They were supposed to be better in 2017 and ended up having a bad year. Boise was picked to do the same thing they always do and came into that game in Stillwater #1 in the country both in offense and defense. Itâs easy to pick and choose what games should or could be considered good, we could do that all day. Even with Iowa state, that putrid loss to ULL looks less sour when you find out that ULL went 10-1 and finished the year in the top 20. Itâs all situational.
True. Iâm just saying itâs rare to see anyone schedule blue bloods year in and year out, even with top teams. The only school I can think of that does it every single year is Bama. OU hasnât played anyone noteworthy in 3-4 years, and they have blue bloods on their schedule in the future but so does OSU and everyone else. OU is in an easier situation trying to schedule blue bloods than we are, teams like Clemson or Alabama playing someone like us is a lose-lose situation for them. They wonât play someone thatâs good enough to possibly win the game, while not being good enough to keep their name from getting drug if they lose. I also think itâs absolutely stupid that ou schedules home and homes for the 2050s. Whatâs the point? 40% of the fan base will be dead by the time those games are finally played.
Well since you think Alabama and Clemson are scared to play us, we could try Ohio State. Theyâve played Virginia Tech, Tulsa, TCU and Oregon State besides OU twice in the last 6 seasons.
U spend way to much time talking about ou. Look it has nothing to do with schedule. If Sanders could take us 13 and 0 were in
Win against tOSU and one loss to OU wouldnât keep you out.
Itâs funny, youâre asking Sanders to do something that Gundy with any qb hasnât been able to do in 16 years.
It would if the one lose was in the champ game. If we lost to osu and ou thatâs to losses were not going
I agree, and you know as well as I do that Gundy is never going to beat OU or any team close to that level. Thatâs the reason he wonât ever schedule one. So weâll come into the conference after playing McNeese State, Tulsa and Central Michigan.
Scared isnât the right word. Just saying itâs less rewarding than someone bigger to those teams. I also said Bama is the only one playing big boys every year. Think back to 2014, that Florida state game could have been a complete and utter disaster for them, and there wasnât much reward to it. They either beat a team that they should have had no issue with, or they lose and get hammered with criticism. They ended up squeaking out a win and it did more harm to their image than good. I canât speak to which big programs would want to play a team like us or not, I just could see why they wouldnât want to touch a team like OSU with a 100-foot pole early in the season. Too much risk and not enough reward, unless we go into the season ranked in the top 10 or something.
I guarantee itâs more Gundy than these other teams.
Look we play 5 or 6 ranked teams a yr. Thatâs plenty. In 2018 were 4 and 1 in top 25. One extra point away from r 3rd top ten win and 5 and 0 over all. This yr ksu was ranked tulsa isu ou Texas Miami. Were beat a top 10team.
Sec wouldnât go to a 9 game league schedule so the bottom 9 teams can play 4 chitty teams. Go look up the sec non con and not just bama.
Thing about u joe is u see something once and think it true. Reality is osu is not as strong as bama every year. So lose count. And we do schedule a power 5 team every yr but being so far out we never know how they will be.
Other then that get over it.
Iâd be willing to bet youâre wrong for two reasons. 1. Gundy has a lot less to lose than those other teams do. He was also the one who had to convince Holder to pull the trigger on FSU and MSU back in 2013 and 2014. Also, He can have input but at the end of the day if Holder wants a game scheduled, heâs the one handling that, not Gundy. Gundy can tell him preferences but I guarantee Holder isnât letting Gundy run scheduling.
Then again, holder is just as much to blame for issues weâve seen lately as Gundy is. So really the conversation stays the same but just switched over to what Holder is doing wrong.
STILLWATER, Okla. â Mike Gundy thought seriously about leaving Stillwater â where heâs played quarterback, served as head coach for eight seasons and made his home â because of scheduling.
Yes, scheduling.
Well, on paper that was the reason. But to Gundy, scheduling symbolized a broader issue. He DIDNâT think scheduling two kickoff games â Mississippi State in Houston in 2013, Florida State in 2014 in Cowboys Stadium â maximized Oklahoma Stateâs chances to win a national title. And from Gundyâs view, if youâre going to promise a recruit or a staff member one thing, itâs that youâll do everything in your power to win one.
YeahâŚbut there is by far a larger difference when comparing ULL to other well known team with consistent winning percentages. I by no means would justify ULL being a better program than Oregon for example.
Bama had played Wisconsin, Florida State, USC, and Virginia Tech in no -conference since 2014. So why would Nick Saban be afraid to schedule a game against the most conservative coach in America that holds a 2-14 record against his blue-blood rival? Saban fears Malzahn more than he does Gundy and Malzahn just got fired for not meeting expectations.
He isnât saying that blue bloods would never schedule a team like OSU. He is just saying that OSU is a less attractive opponent than other power 5 programs. We are in the sweet spot where we are not a national brand that garners big time attention and kudos if they beat us, but we are also not a Kansas/Oregon State/Vanderbilt, etc. where they get a guaranteed win against a power 5 team.
He didnt fear gus. Auburn is a blue blood. But gus is a fired coach
